I don't know, Smokey, but All The King's Men {{{remake-remake-remake}}} has been getting gawdawful reviews around here. Maybe you're just smitten with Kate, though. From all the clips I've seen, the blustering Sean red-in-the-face Penn is off putting to me. Whatever it is he's shouting about, it all comes through to me as "This is my Academy Award perf!" Yada. Yawn. I also cannot escape the suspicion that I'm going to be preached at by the content of this film.
Oh, but not to veer from the topic at hand, how about that INLAND EMPIRE? And I think all movies should have simultaneous DVD releases to the theatrical release. That's the way it's likely going to end up in the not to distant future anyway which is good by me! Susan PS Has it crossed any one else's mind that Jude Law was a Pity Casting masterminded by Sean Penn after Chris Rock dissed (ever so gently) JL at the Oscars thereby ticking off the easily ticked off SP? Nah, I didn't think so either...

Hmmm, I wonder if this means either by purchasing and downloading at DL.com or one of the other new movie rental companies that are popping up online...not the Netflix mailbox type, but directly downloading to your computer???

Please God no... then this movie would be inaccessible to many people, including me... Besides I really want to see this movie in theaters. Half the reason I'm so excited about it is because I'm dying to see another DL movie in theaters. That is a mindblowing experience.

Well, the main thing we looked at was digital delivery to theatres, in an independent distribution sort of scheme. With Studio Canal financing, I don't think now that that will happen, though I m not now in the loop to know. Probably now the movie will be delivered on film to theatres, and the tape-to-film tests we made in 2004 were very successful.

yeah, the more reviews I read about All The King's Men, Susan, the less I want to see it.

Distributing IE digitally would be so cool. I have been hearing for several years that digital distribution is coming but that the impact on media (TV, movies, internet content) isn't known because there is no business plan. And what about safety? You don't want someone "stealing your signal" cuz as SERENITY fans know, you can't stop the signal (shameless plug alert) Then DL set up DL.com as a subscriber service. Duh, makes sense. I also know that a local theater "downloads" special event TV programs (VERONICA MARS yet another shameless plug). I guess we need someone to lead the way on digital distribution. I hope it's DL with IE. Good on DL for being an innovator in many other ways.

According to this NYFF preview article, IE has been picked up for distribution by Magnolia Pictures and will be distributed theatircally sometime next year: http://comingsoon.net/news/indietopnews.php?id=16671

Thanks for that link, jrg. I noticed in the article it says IE was picked up for distribution by Magnolia while it was at the Venice FF. Interesting.

According to this article, INLAND EMPIRE will be released in USA next November http://www.nysun.com/article/40664 The film was announced to be screening in Sitges Film Festival next week (Spain) but now it won't be shown. I don't know the reason but I'm very disappointed. If someone is interested, "Eraserhead", "Blue Velvet", "TPFWWM" and "Lost highway" are confirmed. I have bought tickets to "The fountain", "Scoop", "Children of men", "Tideland" and Kim Ki Duk's "Time", but I'm still angry because of Inland Empire :P

I've started reading DL boards once a week, which helps. Between IE, the FWWM deleted scenes, Twin Peaks Season 2 and now that second Twin Peaks CD it got to the point where I was wishing my life away waiting for new DL releases. I've also deleted my favourite searches on Ebay after spending almost £400 on DL in one month. All that waiting and trying to stay positive was wearing me out. I'll buy the book (am looking forward) and wait for the film and DVDs to come to me. Or not, as the case may be. I seriously doubt there'll ever be another film I love as much as FWWM but I'm sick of hearing about the deleted scenes. I already own eight copies of FWWM on DVD and VHS and won't be buying another unless they're on it..

I think that's what he/she meant. Next Nov. is still November 2006... by the way, the writer suggested that people see movies less likely to get a wide theatrical release rather than IE... did I miss something? I mean we were just talking about it not even getting a release... now it's suddenly gonna get a pretty wide one? He also said it got booed at Cannes instead of the Venice Film Festival.

LOL...this is why you should never believe 100% of anything you read in the press. The trouble is, which % of what you read should you actually believe?

"He was booed at Cannes?' "That's what the report said." "Hmmm, then that means he was in France that day. Yep, I knew it was him I saw at that Potato cart. Pay up." "OK."

I think you can read the article at least twice, and then it locks you out unless you register. It's free to register, and then you can email the articles to all your friends.

A very good review..that person has their head screwed on the right way.... Esp R.E. the credits..which i LOVED. Erm..about that other article which mentioned it being booed at "Cannes" (which I guess we take to mean Venice..)..who said it was even booed at Venice?? I dont remember that, unless it was at the press showing! It certainly was NOT booed in the premiere where David received his award...not one bit. Infact it was cheered. I dont know where that person is coming from.

That was a good article, but did you notice they didn't even capitalize INLAND EMPIRE? I can't wait to hear from the folks going to New York how they liked it. And I sure hope that one article that hinted at a November w-i-d-e release is correct!

Wasn't the all caps edict something David Lynch mandated himself? I agree with Annie. If that's the title, that's the title. Same as when Prince changed his name to a symbol, his name was the symbol. Same as the title "Do U Cry 4 Me Argentina" is not "Do You Cry For Me Argentina." Etc. By the way, the title of the thread is also wrong though the Gazette is not the Newspaper of Record with All the News That's Fit to Print. I haven't checked but wouldn't be surprised if the NYT printed an erratum in a follow-up edition. What do you think, Chris (OneSuaveFolk)? Susan

This makes that November wide release unlikely... Oh well. I never really thought that was gonna happen anyway.
