So, Laura, with this role, there's so many different levels, so many different performances, various different versions of the same person, how was that working for you?
Dern: You know, more than ever, the day's work was at hand, and what I had. Given that we shot in such a way that we would, David would a write and we would film that, and then he'd write another scene and we'd film that and so on, it forced me - very luxuriously - into the moment. I didn't necessarily know what was coming before or what was coming after, and whether one perceives it that I am different people, or that I am aspects of one person, either way you can really only act one way, which is being the person you are in that moment. So in a way, not knowing everything, and trying to somehow get to what would be logically minded as an actor and try and help the audience understand how this relates to that, etc. I was freed from any of that, by David keeping me in the moment with whatever character I was playing, or whichever aspect of the story I was involved in. And that was extremely freeing, and in a way I think allows for more imagination as an actor, because as much as an actor wants to believe this is just for my own experience, that they are not informing the audience. There can be a pitfall of feeling like "because my character is going to do this five scenes from now, maybe I should give them a little taste of that, so they know that it's coming," but as we see, human nature doesn't work that way. Where people cry in the news when we hear "so and so, who seemed like such a nice guy, did this atrocious thing." And so being forced by the director, if you will, to just be this aspect of what I suppose this is for, I think made me get to be braver by default, not intentionally. Very interesting. Here's the whole interview. http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=interviews&id=8215 sorry about the coloring, can't seem to get it black.

Noah, that's a great interview; I especially love the parts where David gets all excited over how many kinds of pie he can have!! Seriously, though, it's nice they are sitting down discussing the experience of the movie. It would have more relevance for me if I got to see it!

Noah said, "sorry about the coloring, can't seem to get it black." RB replies, "Ain't it the sad truth."

Pasting the text clip first into a text editor like Notepad and then here does the trick.

This is for those who have seen IE. Here is a link to a transcript to Lynch's short Darkened Room from his website. http://www.david-lynch.info/darkenedroom/transcript/ I had noticed in IE that there were some shots very reminsicent of Darkened Room. Most importantly, both have as a motif the HOLE IN THE SILK DRESS, which the girl must LOOK through. Any thoughts, fellow IE lovers (or haters ; ) ?

http://www.d-kaz.com/reviews/review.php?id=335 EXCELLENT REVIEW. Spoiler, which is marked, at the end of the review. The reviewer perfectly articulated what i thought the deal was with the woman watching the television...i suggest everyone who's seen the film to read this review. "Her character, like the film at times, displays a remarkable self-awareness, as if she is not only shocked, traumatized and baffled by her splintering grip on herself, but that Dern the actress too cannot believe what she is seeing and what is happening to her in the process of filming." YES!!! That is the genius of Dern's performance and Lynch's direction in this film!

Enjoy! Just think about the rest of us in Europe who still have 5 months to wait before we get to see in on the big screen!
******** Possible Spoiler ********
Anybody hear the voiceover at the end of the trailer? The bit when the needle tracks the vinyl? I'm fairly certain it says 'Axxon N. the longest running radio show ever' or something like that.

Given that Justin Theroux said that that Lynch literally has hundreds of hours of footage I wouldn't be too surprised if dl.com was used to broaden and deepen the plot of this story. Its the place this project originated and I reckon its where its gonna end up. Could be another ace up DL's sleeve ;-)

Am I supposed to know this AXXON to watch INLAND EMPIRE? I was never registered as a member on Lynch's site, so I didn't see this AXXON. Only Rabbits. By the way, I don't know about the other countries in Europe but here in Italy we wont have to wait 5 months. The movie is coming out in January, from what I've heard. On the distributor's website they're highlighting it as "coming soon":

On the italian distributor's site they only put the tagline, the presskit (which is usually published online an exact month before the release) and a dissolving slideshow in which I picked up this photo that I think it was never seen before online(except those who were lucky to see the movie, of course). The link does not exist, so I had to save the image on my Hard disk to show you. Here it is:

Well, it is included in the official still pictures slideshow that was left to the distributor.

Hmm, I´m wondering if the film will be released in Thailand. I really don´t want to watch it on one of those pirate copies or whatever you call it. That would ruin it all for me, but if it´s THERE, right in front of me -will I be able to resist??? I hope I will be able to watch it in the cinema... perhaps around April.
I really don´t understand why there aren´t any release dates in Scandinavia??? I feel so neglected
Yeah but no but yeah but no but....

Thank you Annie. I already knew that site and it's one of the worst, in my opinion. It doesn't tell much and anything new about IE that we didn't already know. That's a pity!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a RELIABLE site (i.e. not Wikipedia) that lists a UK release date? Because, as far as I'm aware, the movie still doesn't have a UK distributor. I phoned Odeon head office, and nobody could tell me anything about any screenings in Camden during February. I spoke to the manager of that actual cinema, and it was news to him too....
Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Thanks, LetsRoque! I've been checking that site every day for a while, I noticed the March date yesterday, so it must have been put up there very recently. At least now we know for sure - I'm still trying to find out about that Camden showing though!

I think it would be interesting to see this ad made by Lynch on the making of Inland Empire, now that it is slowly coming out everywhere around the globe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp788VgpEsA&mode=related&search= Can someone spell me what he says after "I'm completely through with film?" Thanks.
