I have not seen the movie yet and probably won't until the DVD comes out.  But I don't think you can spoil this movie.  I've watched all the trailers and read the reviews and still don't really know what's going on!!!

I got to see IE twice last week. I was wondering if there was a place to post my interpretation/theory of it somewhere on here? I dont want to post it where I would spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. I loved it! It has such a good feeling to it. It brought me back to the first time watching FWWM and BV and how I felt then. Its a very, very deep movie and its beautiful! I also met David while he was here in Maryland. He offered to signed the plastic sleeve to Season 1 Twin Peaks, MD DVD sleeve and 2 books for my wife and I. I have videos and pics that I'll try and post as well.

Oh yeah, somebody asked about the song after locomotion on the italian preview, if it hasn't already been talked about on here I'm pretty sure that is David himself singing "strange what love can do". In the credits at least 2 songs are performed by David Lynch.

If you're worried about spoiling the film, head on over to the inlandempirecinema.com website and post on the message board topic "INLAND EMPIRE Theories".

Would love to discuss it with you! My name's EveningAbsurdity over there. Also feel free to join us over on livejournal at the David Lynch Community - I'm the moderator there, name Lovespiralsdown.

how DOES he do it??  How can he tap into the art/soul life in such a raw way so unlike all his peers?  Is it his fearlessness alone?

My 2 cents?  When you go to see IE, don't try to "figure it out" just ride the wave, at least the first viewing.  And Enjoy the treat!

I certainly don't think that you should try to figure this movie out... ever. I agree you should just enjoy it for what it is. I think that at the end of the film the basic story and the major symbolism in the movie is pretty obvious, and the rest is just cool imagery and concepts, that are interesting in themselves, and add to the overwhelming feel of the movie, but really don't make sense. I certainly don't think that it's a "labyrinthine puzzle box"... I haven't read a statement about the film that I disagree with more. That's just not how Lynch works. The first time I saw Lost Highway I felt like it all fit together somehow that I couldn't conceive of, but on second viewing I realized that there wasn't much to understand that I didn't get the first time. A great deal of IE explores the conflicting feelings and emotions in the mind of a troubled woman... how could that possibly make sense?

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

It was after I stopped trying to find a plot and began to "enjoy" the ride that I fell asleep for an hour. Oddly enough when I woke up there still wasn't a plot and I wasn't any more confused than when I had fallen asleep. That's okay... I think it was more a combination of caffine withdrawl + exhaustion that made me fall asleep . I probably won't sit though another showing of this in the theaters. I'll wait until I can get it at work for free.

I'm pretty sure what you meant to write, but I have to point out that the second part of this statement actually means you agree with the "labyrinthine puzzle box" description. I think you meant to say "that I agree with less" or "that I disagree with more".

Just sayin'....

Or...as we old school grammarians might say, "I haven't read a statement with which I agree less" or "I haven't read a statement with which I disagree more."

Right, Chris? Now, let's diagram that sentence!

Just caught it at the Neptune today!!  This is the site of my 1987 (Feb. 21) wedding. The movie that day: A Man & A Woman: 20 Years Later. It's indeed nearly 20 years later &, alas, we aren't still together. But we are still friends.  I love you Tami... wherever you are (Ashland, Or.).

Oh you're right... that's pretty funny... I'll correct that.

Why don't you just "correct" it to where you agree with me?

Got a copy of the Guardian Newspaper today, as ThisIsTheGirl happened to mention to me that they were doing a promotion on the IE showing at the NFT. Just thought Id quote what it says-

David Lynch

Plus a special preview of Inland Empire

Celebrated auteur David Lynch serves as producer and editor for Inland Empire, his most experimental and personal film to date.

-brief paragraph describing the story of IE-

Following a preview screening of Inland Empire, David Lynch meets Mark Kemode to discuss the film and his own unique cinematic vision.

They then go on to say that they have 50 tickets on offer if you call the NFT and quote "Guardian David Lynch offer". They still cost £18.75 though! Am sure they have gone by now because it was this mornings paper, but may be worth a go??
