Some new short clips included in this french video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kSAno05TMI

I think DV looks great in these clips and in the trailers too.

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it...

I sadly was unable to procure tickets to the David Lynch attended screening of Inland Empire in Silver Springs, MD, but I've got a plan B that's almost as good: I'm going to go see a regular screening of IE Saturday, and afterwards go to hear Lynch talk about his new book at the Bethesda Round House Theater... not really interested in the book, but it'll be great to see Lynch in person... I can't wait! Only three days... It's hard to believe it's really gonna happen...

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

At this link you find the french trailer, I think it's best quality. The other one skips.

From what I've seen in these two clips, there are moments of visual inspiration and others that are too poor in that. This is going to be a half let down for the fanatics of Lynch's previous artwork. Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Mulholland Dr. will never come back, if he is really convinced of not using film anymore.

Silencio I have watched Wild at Heart and have no real inclination to watch it again. At the same time, the times I have watched MD easily number double digits and I know I will most likely watch it again a good few times. From these two sentences I'm sure you can conclude that for me, MD>WAH. That's my personal preference.

Now, what you claim in that idiotic statement up there is that based on your own personal preference (and slightly odd notion that you are gonna be let down by something that you haven't even seen) that for EVERY LYNCH FANATIC, the following will be true:

 IE < BV ; IE < WAH ; IE

Can you not see how irritating it is to see somebody else speak for all Lynch fans when it is actually their own preference they are conveying ? I don't know how much clearer I can make this -YOU ARE ONLY SPEAKING FOR YOURSELF. A simple IMO (In my opinion) wouldn't go amiss in your posts when making such big assertions. Please use it.

Ok, so I still didn't get to see Lynch (advice to those in Seattle: get tickets ASAP... literally; as soon as they go on sale), but I finally got down to see Inland Empire... it was incredible, really great stuff. Doubts about the DV and the quality of the images (like Silencio's above) should be laid to rest. The film looks incredble, and has a very distinctive visual quality; few of the Lynch motifs that almost always appear (which is a good thing for me, the visuals felt new, though still obviously Lynch's.. definitely not a compendium of his other movies, as some people have been worried). Laura Dern was incredible, but everything that can be said about her perfomance has been said already so I can't really add much. What surprised me most was how funny it was... this is easily Lynch's funniest movie to date. It didn't scare me as much as it did some people... it was quite scary and disturbing in parts (more so to me than Lost Highway or Mulholland Dr.) but not as scary as Blue Velvet or FWWM (though I thought it was far superior to the latter). The hookers dancing to "Do the Locomotion" really cracked me up. Great soundtrack too... Badalamenti not being involved didn't hurt it at all. Could've used a little trimming (there were two or three scenes that I thought were pretty dull, and the ending dragged a little), but only a little... it really didn't feel three hours long. The structure of the movie was incredibly cool... though I wouldn't want every movie to have such a loose, freefall feel, it was really amazing here. It is a must see in theaters... the way sound is used is incredible. It is very beautiful in a strange way. It is definitely only for the fans... do not try to drag someone who's not into Lynch to see this film (at least fifteen people walked out of the movie)... but I'm pretty sure the majority of the fans will love it as much as I did. It's my third favorite Lynch film next to Blue Velvet and Mulholland Dr. (and it was almost as good as Mulholland Dr.)

Thanks for putting your thoughts up, LWAPOM! I really enjoyed reading them - thanks for keeping it spoiler-free too, I hate to read spoilers, but it's really nice to get a general impression from a Lynch fan - I'm looking forward to IE even more now!

UK Gazetteers: I'm afraid that after a lot of irate phonecalls from myself and others, the bit about IE showing in Camden on Febraury 7 has been taken off Wikipedia, which I can only assume means that it isn't happening any more - looks like early March is the new date to wait for now!

I think it's the best one too. But... as a question to those who have seen it, I can't help but feel that this is a spoiler of some sort. Is it?

is it though? I've seen the film and can't exactly say it spoils anything in particular...

This would look good on your wall.

Well, that's debatable I suppose..In one way it doesn't say anything much because even after viewing the entire film it's not as if you understand what it is. However, I'm glad I didn't see it before watching the film..not  because it "ruins" anything..that's dramatic..but because it's a memorable and key part of the film that is seen best in the context of the entire film. Im glad I didnt see any trailers at all..I like watching them AFTER viewing the film.

Hey iar, check your PMs much?

I've tried my best not to watch trailers, or look at stills. I did see the room to dream footage though - not sure if that was spoilerific or not.....

Glad I'm not the only one that didn't notice it... I saw it, but didn't realize who it was... It actually does make parts of the movie make more sense to me... You can't get caught up in the little details of the movie, but thinking about the events in a very broad sense, the movie makes a fair amount of sense to me... I think I basically get what it's about and have a pretty good idea of what most of the characters represent... the movie actually does manage to say some very interesting things, which is part of what I like so much about it... BTW when I said the DV looks great I didn't mean it looked just like film; the difference is jarring at first, but the DV manages to give the movie a very unique look... it doesn't look like other Lynch films, yet is very interesting and beatiful (in it's own way) visually. I'm sure some people will dislike it though. I'm very glad he went with the poor quality DV for this film though.

OK, it seems that there IS an early showing of INLAND EMPIRE in the UK. It's on Thursday 8th February at the National Film Theatre. The even more exciting news is that Lynch will be doing an interview with The Guardian afterwards!!

http://www.bfi.org.uk/incinemas/nft/film/7234

I think they are only taking postal bookings from members until tomorrow, after which anybody can apply. They should have received mine yesterday, but I have no idea if it is already fully booked, so I have a nervous few days ahead of me waiting to see if I got my tickets. Anyway, I thought it only fair that I share this excellent news with a bunch of fellow Lynch fans! Good luck to anyone who applies!

 Thanks again.

Sorry, you answered my question in your post, D'oh!

It would be great to get a few UK board members down at the NFT..i know of 4 who are trying to get tickets right now. It may be worth phoning the box office number on the site, tomorrow morning instead.

I agree it would be a blast. Have not been on this board for a long time, good to be back!

Years ago I went to a Lynch week at the (now closed) Merseyside film institute and made some good friends. I like the way Lynch fans think.

Gonna ring the box office tomorrow. Hopefully will get tickets and hopefully meet some UK board members there!

Finally, A little Lynch joke:

Q: How many Lynch fans does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Two. One to hold the light bulb and one to screw in the ladder!
