No problem crabalocker! By the way, I discovered that non-members can phone from 11:30 this morning - i.e. in about half an hour! Number to call is 0207 928 3232.

Good luck - hope to see some fellow Gazetteers there!

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

This is the poster they made for Inland Empire's italian theatrical release in February:

The writing under the title is the Italian adapted title and it means "the inner empire"...

And here is the italian trailer:

The last line said by Zabriskie is translated as "Is there a murder in this film?"

The best trailer I have seen Silencio. It actually perked some interest for me, a Lynch fan. It showed chicks, monsters, weirdness, ,,and music. The DV quality didn't seem a real problem here. So much better than other bits and pieces I have seen to date. I hope this shows up at a nice independent house in my area that gets most independent, offbeat movies.

Comment: Lynch is calling film "dead" these days. I guess that is the freedom, and less cost and simplicity DV provides. He used to eschew DV even for minor effects, and praise the texture and beauty of film. DV , like technologies in general, improve. THat has to be part of this 180 in L's opinions.  So, I now look forward to check this experimental one out.

The film's subtitle is "A Woman in Trouble". That should be on there. And I know Irons is the "big name"  male actor in the film, but his role is relatively minor compared to Dern's (or even Theroux's ,or the actor playing her husband(s)).

one suave folk, "a woman in trouble" is the tag line.

They put Jeremy Irons' name after Dern's because Justin Theroux is absolutely unknown here in Italy. It's clearly a commercial attempt of luring the audience to see the film

Just caught this interview on Live Journal.  IFP's Filmmaker Magazine talks with Absurda's Eric Bassert about marketing the movie, etc; good article!

Curious to hear what other fans have to say about I.E.. The Seattle premier was 17 January and about 1500 fans jammed into the Cinerama to see what can only be described as "Easerhead on acid". I think David wanted to capture every idea he could on film, sorry digital.

Well, I saw the thing Friday night. I am not sure what to think... I think I know what the movie is all about - the link between 'A Meeting Upstairs' and Axxon N. is all too apparent.

EDIT: I really liked the movie. And we got a bonus - Chris Isaak played before and after the film. He even had Dave get up and play the shaker on the last song. Chris said in the middle of it, "I made a movie with David, and I had to do everything he told me to do, but now he is in MY power!"

Had a nice visit with David afterward. He is totally through with film as a medium. In the Q&A he talked about how 'heavy' working in film is - how slow and expensive it is.

You're talking about things that some of us ignore the existence of. The film should stand alone.

Don't stone me or anything, but I really didn't like it. It was cool to hear him during the Q&A. I just didn't enjoy the film. It was kind of disappointing in my opinion. I think it was because I was expecting a "Blue Velvet"-like film, but ended up with Eraserhead. Well there you have it my opinion from seattle. Once again...please don't stone me.

Hi John

I have still not seen the movie yet . I know of Axxon N , but are "Heiress" and "A Meeting Upstairs" two new projects that David was/is working on ?

I see on IMDB there's a new V (video) project called Boat. But they don't say anything else about it.

Boat was a small film David created for his website and was released there ages ago, although I don't think it is now available  to watch on his website.

Still hoping that my friend Maureen's boyfriend suddenly falls ill so I can use his ticket for David's night at the Music Box, otherwise, I will be going to opening night on Friday for the 8:00 showing of Inland Empire. I can hardly contain myself.

Funny, people keep comparing this movie to Eraserhead, but I didn't think it was like it at all. Eraserhead is definitely my least favorite Lynch film (though I haven't seen Dune, and unless you count the Grandmother)... I find it nearly unwatchable. IE has a totally different feel... I think it's more like Mulholland Dr. It's a very good companion film to it. The comparison to Eraserhead seems to be caused merely because it's probably his most bizarre and abstract film since Eraserhead (though still not nearly as abstract). I'm not criticizing you for not liking it BTW... just saying that I found it very different from Eraserhead.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Hey, do not feel so all alone, Rachel. Everybody must get stoned. STONE HER!!!   IE is bound to confound. Dave doesn't make it easy. So glad it's at the Neptune. I'll be going to see it again this week.  It's definitely a labyrinthine puzzle box mind- blower, certainly not straightforward & comfortably digestible. And you're the second one to bring up Eraserhead, which it resembles not in style, tone, or narrative (okay, a LITTLE bit). It's blatantly more similar to his last 2 original films MD & LH.   For the record, I DID like it. That's not to say I understood everything about it.  That's why repeat viewings are desirable, if not downright mandatory.  And did anyone else catch Lynch's "cameo" in the film?  I also noted that son Austin's in it. Have to look for him on view #2...

Rachel,

I wont stone you either because Deanne and I walked away disappointed as well. We were hoping it was an extension of MD or BV. Instead we got a 3 hour acid trip. (A three hour tour). I do however agree with Chris that you have to watch it 2 or 3 times in order to really enjoy it. Its going to be interesting to hear what others have to say in future postings. I think I'll wait for the DVD this summer.

Rob
