I haven't seen Munchausen in a very long time, must rewatch.  Have either of you seen Tideland?  What did you think of it?

It's awful.
Your taste may differ, though.

I'll take your word for it on this one...I don't think I've seen any positive reviews.

So can I anticipate John Candy whipping out an ax?

I always liked the part where they are combing the desert.

Anyone watched Life of Brian?  I thought that was funny.

I can proudly say I have never seen Howard the Duck.

What TV shows/films do you like?  It just seems like just about every one that is brought up you don't like.  Myself and all lurkers are curious.

Here is an example of when j was not discussing the man selling the secret diary

Spaceballs is cinematic genius. Whatever happened to Mel Brooks? He produces The Elephant Man then makes that pile of doo-doo Men In Tights. I want to see the originals you were working from, Booth.

Never got into Monty Python. I just don't think the English are funny.

You'll find the John Candy picture by typing spaceballs into google image search.
The one for Pullman seems to be gone.

Edit: The Pullman picture can be found by searching barf spaceballs

I'm not starting a flame war or anything, but i think exactly the same about Americans. But i know what you mean, we have too many slapstick and surreal comedies. But seriously, US programmes should stop with the canned laughter. It makes me want to self-harm every time i hear it. It takes up more time than the scenes themselves. Plus, the bits aren't funny. At all.

Anti-american sentiment is always en vogue.  It's all good.

Aww, hopesfall. I wasn't being totally serious. The Monty Python formula is as tired as the Friends or America's Funniest Home Videos or Rock of Love formula(hell, any formula is tired) not being a comic myself, I wouldn't dare piss on anyone's Fruit Loops.

The future of American comedy is clearly Ow My Balls:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_T83CSX1CY

It's hard to make me laugh at all. Um. Ab Fab is my favorite English comedy. Kids in the Hall is Canadian, so I guess they don't count for a favorite American comedy, huh?

 His ax if you're lucky.

i'm gonna go ahead and say it. mel brooks has never ever made a really good solid movie.

So you don't think the original The Producers is a solid movie?  Dick Shawn's auditon for Hitler destroys me every time.  And the production number of Springtime for Hitler is classic.

it's got a couple good scenes but for what i remember the movie is like 90% gene wilder mugging and gurning for the camera

Really? Last time I watched it I was impressed by how restrained his performance was.

I agree that the Brooks canon can accomodate three masterpieces.

even a restrained gene wilder performance is going to be over-the-top awfulness, imo
