QUOTE:The funniest thing about Jan D'Arcy (Sylvia Horne) is that for someone who had a grand total of, what, 5 lines in the series, she seems to have the most stories to tell out of everyone. :)

Yeah, well, Jan's been telling the same half dozen stories for the past 16 years.  But, ya gotta love 'er!!!

Well yeah, but so has every other celeb. It's not like they dig up new information before they join us each year.

True, but having Piper there last year was a treat. And Kimmy's fun when she's wined up...

Do people at the Fest clump themselves together in cliques or is it more or less one big group?

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

They clump together more or less, but there's interaction between the clumps. Frankly there could be far more interaction between everyone, but people tend to keep themselves clumped and that's OK with me. As long as they don't start whining to me about how the fest feels cliquey. It's cliquey because attendees make it cliquey, not because Jared or I encourage or support it.

I don't think so or at least not too bad.  There are the people on here that know each other from meeting live in person and then there are the "others" that are just usernames from the great beyond (myself included).

One challenge that keeps us ALL from hanging out together 24/7 is that its hard to find things to do as a large group at off-event hours that everyone agrees on, or can coordinate rides and times to do.

We usually try to have non-official after- and pre- events, but coming in and taking over a bar in those numbers can get insane. Not enough seating in these places, for starters. Even 4 carloads of people trying to get lunch together somewhere is something most local establishments aren't prepared for. The giant crowd can scare off the less extroverted Festers, too, and that's totally understandable.

Some people show up with a bf/gf, or a few friends, and of course that leads to less meeting new people.

In recent years- I guess since the open bar started- I noticed people hanging out with those of comparable states of inebriation. If one crew wants to hero drink Jaeger and Cuervo all night, the stone sober folks will avoid them. And vice versa. (** If you bring pot, you'll be popular. But that goes without saying**)

If you're staying at the same motel or hotel as other people, especially if you're a return attendee and you always stay in the same one, that creates another tendency to "clump."

Even among the veterans, there are several groups that always end up hanging together and doing the same things every year. By no means are these groups exclusive. Personally, I hang out with an equal mix of same old and new every year.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's hard to bond with everyone over a couple of days. It's a good icebreaker to say "hey, I talk to you online," but that never means you'll automatically hit it off in person.

By the end of the weekend, it's not hard to have at least introduced yourself to everyone. Everyone is always so friendly. Twin Peaks has kind of an arty fanbase; types who might seem stand-offish, but are really just shy and in their own heads alot, and are just waiting for someone to approach them. The Fest really lets everyone relax and be themselves. Even CB (god love him.)

Last year was my first at the fest and although I'm almost painfully introverted I still found people to talk to.  I hope to hang with some more folks when I come back this year.  The main thrill for me was to be in the location.  But booze generally will facillitate the socializing process.

this is just a hypothetical situation and not something I would say to 12rainbow.

I've thought about using a fake name and acting like I don't post on message boards so people have no clue who I am.

If I have coolspringsj on my nametag, I would hear

"Oh, you're that idiot who posts way too much every day on the Gazette!  My, I didn't realize you would be so handsome in person."

We all said kind of the same thing about Hyde his first year. In fact, Hyde even got play with a cute girl his "virgin year" - despite his prior Zette antics (which were far more outrageous than yours, j.)
