from imdb.com

from lynchnet.com today:

Twin Peaks Full Series DVD

TVShowsOnDVD.com is reporting that on October 30 of this year, Paramount will re-release the entire series of Twin Peaks in one boxset, including the pilot. This matches what our sources have been saying. Expect a release of the same set in the R2 European countries where Paramount has the rights to the series on October 31. No word yet on if there will be any new extras in the set, but usually Paramount throws in a few new things when they put out their full series sets. Here's the initial cover art, which I'm sure will change by the time the set is officially announced

To expand upon my hi-larious jibe from earlier, I realize it's not the idea of the design that I don't like, so much as the execution.  It's not the approach I would have taken, but I can imagine it being well done.  It just seems like not enough care was taken with the assembly -- it looks like someone threw it together.

QUOTE:

I know a lot of people won't like that I am saying this, but I will say it anyway.  It really goads me that Lynch keeps "offering" to remaster scenes for Peaks but in doing so dooms them to never being seen again because of the high costs his remastering entails.  I would rather see these scenes in less-than-perfect form than NEVER because Lynch has to have control over them.

Hear hear! It really ticks me off too, because I know the team putting together the extras for this set were really excited about getting the deleted scenes and outtakes and felt really good about their meeting with Lynch to discuss the inclusion of the footage on the set. They put in a lot of work tracking down the various bits of footage and figuring out what stuff came from where, and everything. What a total waste of their efforts! And to have us lose out once again due to the cost of Lynch tinkering with things is just sad. Sad sad sad. His pride is screwing us completely.

Anyway. I'm not so concerned about the packaging because I'd be willing to bet twenty bucks it'll change before it's released. But hot damn, that is one f'ing ugly cover, lemme tell you.

Holy moly, kids! That's the ugliest, most vulgar and inappropriate cover I've seen on anything ever. I'm not buying TP again unless it has deleted scenes. Interviews and docs are fine but I can live without them. I think Paramount and DL are as bad as each other. Perhaps they deserve each other.

About DL remastering: we don't know the true story. Was the DL figure unrealistic or was Paramount being tightfisted? The problem is the more editions there are about, the fewer ppl are in the market to buy a remastered/extra scenes version, so that edition looks increasingly unviable. The most expensive option looks an even worse option for Paramount once they've already bled the market for VHS, dvd then Gold Edition dvd versions...

This is very true, but I'm still sore from the all-too-recent FWWM debacles with New Line and MK2 where the same thing happened.  So yeah, Paramount may well be tightfisted, but at the same time I'm noticing a common denomonator.

Hello everyone. I thought I'd chime in here and post a link to some alternative DVD covers that I've designed just for fun. I hope you'll go over and check them out. www.moreintwinpeaks.com

If democracy still had meaning, I would vote for the image you used for #2.  With a little cleaning up and contrast, and the real font, it would be sharper than Christopher Walken.

My vote for a new cover would be the one with a shot of the Great Northern, with a giant coffee cup that's been tipped over and the waterfall is now brown, and the entire cast is going over the falls on a giant piece of pie.

Charles, those are lovely.  jlyon makes really rad Twin Peaks DVD artwork, too. (I have his Pilot and Eraserhead covers.)

You could make a buck selling those graphics as posters. I'd be interested for sure.

My favorites are #3 (from ep. 17?), #7 (just a sucker for misty trees), 6# and #2.

Charles - I had nothing against the Gold Edition cover, but damn! Those covers you made are seriously awesome! I love the first one, and I agree, that if you made posters out of them, I would be very intrested to buy some... Great work!

Those are pretty darn groovy, dude...I would opt for 2, 3 or 5...like Jaime said #2 is a nice shot selection...After some times has passed, I would go with #5...

Excellent work Charles! If it were up to me, I'd go for the bird, closely followed by the Saw Mill, the top picture of the TP sign & the one beneath it of the red curtains by Glastonbury Grove.

Some of the darker ones of roads, woods etc are maybe a bit too dark for the front picture but I can see them working brilliantly as part of the inner packaging.

I think pretty much any one of them would be better than the current gold edition design.

Ditto. Why not include them all? Some CDs and DVDs have multiple cover arts you can switch.

I hope some exec is reading this thread right now. Hey Paramount/CBS/whatever, wake up!

I don't like the gold idea, but the design is pretty cool... I like the Wizard of Oz nod. BTW why is everyone complaining about it though? Isn't this what everyone's asked for for years? Who cares what it looks like?  I don't  see this listed on Amazon yet though, so I hope it's official. Be pretty cool if it is... I've been planning to get season 2 this Christmas, but if this is out I'll get it instead and save money....

BTW: Most of those fan made covers are amazing though...they really capture the great mystery and the wonderful feel of the show... I have to say that they're preferable to this one...

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Short answer: We are nerds who will never be totally happy.

Addendum: Unless Lynch himself goes door to door with packages containing remastered deleted footage and a blend of his finest coffee.

HA HA HA!!!! Never has a truer answer been given, my friend!

P.S. Thanks for all the praise everybody!!! This nerd has been doing little else but making pretend DVD covers for the last two days....to quote Sylvia Horne, "What's so difficult to understand about that?!!"

I don't know if it's so much that the cover is unattractive as it is better suited to something else.  It just might seem more appropriate for Wild At Heart instead.  It does sort of remind me of the look for the French Mulholland Dr. one sheet also.  I like the Wizard of Oz feel to it, especially the zig zag-patterned Yellowbrick Road.

Dammit! The more I look at Charles's covers, the more I fell in love with them! If you plan to print them out, I would gladly buy a copy of each and every one of them to frame in and put on my wall. Awesome work, Charles!

Not for nothing, I may've registered just to say this (though I love Twin Peaks and wouldn't mind posting more), but the cover with Laura whispering in Coop's ears is amazing. I think the DVD could be really conceptual with that; the outer cover could deal with Laura, either her body, or that picture or whatever. The inner sections however are all about the Lodge from different angles; it reinforces the idea of Laura's murder as a MacGuffin, with the supernatural underbelly of it as the real intentions (though it took a bit long to establish specifically that, what with the poor season 2 episodes).
