what bands would you choose and why?

Anything by the Hugo Largo, Cocteau Twins or This Mortal Coil would fit perectly in TP.

It's an impossible question though, because TP's mood was created so much by Badalamenti and Cruise (and obv. Lynch). It's possible that a completely different style of music would also fit with TP, but it's now impossible to separate the visuals and emotions from Badalamenti's brooding strings.

I can't imagine any kind of pop music in TP. If Julee Cruise was, like Aimee Mann (circa Til Tuesday, of course) that would have been acceptable.

Pop scores are cheapo scores, ala network TV. TP production was decidedly NOT cheapo.

i second that. angelo, julee, and a little little jimmy scott are the only music i can imagine or would want as the scores to the series and the film. i dont mean to say the concept is ridiculous, but i wouldnt add or take away anything.

Stars Of The Lid or AIx Em Klemm wouldn't sound out of place at all, but then they remind me alot of Angelo's work and Lynch's ambient scapes quite alot anyway.

The song "Ice Creaks" by Ghastly City Sleep reminds me of Twin Peaks alot, and could quite easily be put into a scene smewhere. Imagine Julee Cruise but with (subtle) male vocals in there too. Or go have a listen.

TP's soundtrack is perfect, but I suppose some Brighter Death Now would do no harm here and there, like in the more disturbing scenes.

I firmly believe Leo was an avid fan of Whitesnake.  I can see him all hopped up on God knows what in his big rig singing along to Still of the Night on those lonely runs across state lines.  It's what got him through the night with his sanity in one piece for Shelly's sake.  However, I also bet he made Laura writhe on his red sports car to Here I Go Again and watched on in his sprayon jeans and matching jean jacket with Krokus logo on the back.  Now would I want to hear any of this in Twin Peaks?  Are you nuts?

Who the bloody heck am I kidding?  I would love to see Mullet Boy rock out to these awesome tunes and then some at his local residence 123 Wifebeater Lane.  Working class martyr Leo.  Sighs.

ok, you got me. i COULD see leo being a whitesnake fan(who wouldnt be with that hair), altho this is the pacific northwest and he was truck driver, so i see him listening more to dwight yoakam, or maybe even townes van zandt.

I think Leo is too low class for Yoakam or Van Zandt.  I mean we are talking about a living, breathing Jerry Springer caricature (the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the human race) who ate up the hair metal scene (the worse the band the better- Slaughter, Winger, Enuff Z Nuff, etc.).  The only show he watched was Headbanger's Ball.  A bad guy rocking out to bad (as in not cool) glam metal "artists" who each had the prerequisite power ballad to woo the groupies.  Leo was shallow, man.  A troubled soul indeed.

If Leo was blasting "Achy Breaky Heart" during the pilot when he pulled the bloody shirt out of his truck, I might not have been back for the next episode.

thats why i hold to my original point. funny as this is, no music could be added or subtracted to the series or film which would be for the better.

i am a fan too. many people have bought them up before. i think they were more influenced by TP than actually being from the time period. great great stuff tho. a couple classics.

I'm picturing Shelly and Leo's fights over the radio.  Leo would crank up his Ted Nugent, and Shelly probably has some tiny quiet radio out back by the washing machine where she would listen to Madonna or Cindy Lauper and dream of love.

Audrey would choose something to make herself seem older and sexier, like a sultry Billie Holiday or Nina Simone.

Laura? Hard to say, maybe the Pixies- sort of a manic forced happiness with lots of chaos underneath.

I can't imagine any other music. The music is an important part of the whole TP experience for me.

I have the series in MP4 format (so i can switch and swap episodes on my ipod), and i'm going to try to edit over every scene when Cooper walks into a room with "Smooth Operator" by Sadé ever so slightly audible in the background.

During the scene where BOB kills Maddy I'd play The Beatles Helter Skelter. Backwards. Instead of "helter skelter" it sounds like "I likes Dead" when you play it backwards.

Yeah, I was gonna mention them, but it's too similar to TP. It must have been heavily influenced by Badalamenti and Lynch.

I relish (the condiment) the fact that Twin Peaks has one foot in the 80s and the other firmly planted in the 90s.

Accidentally discovered Lost Highway works with Dark Side of the Moon, too. Start it right after the opening credits.

Continuing with the theme of period music, it would have been amusing if Bobby and Shelly were listening to Pretty Hate Machine in the truck. Like, when he changes the channel "The Only Time" came on. I could see them making out to "Kinda I Want To."

Or when he leaves the RR with her in the pilot, it's "Thieves" by Ministry on the jukebox. As they drive, he's rocking "So What."
