http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/feb/28/david-lynch-twin-peaks-mulholland-drive (ganked from dugpa) The journalist is kind of a dullard, based on his observations. What do you think?

(I'm pretty sure the he misunderstood: film, not films. Damn, do some research before an interview.)

Yeah, surely that quote has been taken out of context? In "Catching The Big Fish" he is referring to using digital cameras over film. The way he rants on about how good digital is, you'd think Inland Empire is the first of many movies he was going to make.

I was told that it was supposed to be Audrey Horne's adventures in Hollywood.

Seriously. One of the most pointless "interviews" I've ever read. Bad writing padded with filler. [OMG, have you heard David Lynch is weird?!]

I found "robotically enthusiastic" to be a strange turn of phrase. It's hard to tell if this guy is a fan of Lynch or not. I personally did not find Six Men Getting Sick to be hypnotic. But I'm not a huge fan of Lynch films (except Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet). I think he has switched to digital so he can experiment more at less expense. I can't stay awake long enough to figure out what is going on in Inland Empire.

He says "mechanical tone" later. And then "He speaks slowly, as if teaching me the basics of a mysterious art." Think Lynch might have been sending him a message by giving rote answers, and talking to him like a 3-year-old, trying his best not to seem bored by an interviewer who wasn't prepared?
Dwelling on how he talks at length like that is not only bad, boring journalism, but to anyone reading it, it definitely seems like he was being talked down to and it very well may have gone over his head. Duhhhh.
Here he is quoting his internal dialogue, baffled by a standard Lynch explanation of how he gets ideas. Lynch is an old pro at this, and was really feeding him good, workable quotes. Nothing too unusual. Yet he actually writes: ""Christ!" I thought when I heard this, "What am I supposed to do with that?"" Plagarize Chris Rodley, apparantly. (This guy is SO not a fan.)
Regurgitating old news and other people's research isn't reporting. He quotes Lynch on Lynch... TWICE... and describes a scene from Lynch One (felt like I was reading Beautiful Dark for a second)! Get a new angle, or at least get him to paraphrase it for you in the interview, or don't bother.
Being "done with film" isn't exactly news, either. If he had done his homework, he could've clarified that point before or during the interview and not come out looking like such a jackass.
What a waste of both of their time...

For the record the interviewer was a woman and not a 'him' or a 'he'. And that interview was no different to any other DL interview published over the last ten years. They just change the font and the accompanying photo. DL could learn a lot from another all-time hero of mine, Kate Bush, which is not to do interviews unless you have something to promote. There was, admittedly, a brief mention of some INLAND EMPIRE stills that are part of a photography exhibition in Derby but it's just a few stills that we've seen hundreds of time already. By that rationale he should participate in blanket media coverage every time I open my DL filing cabinet, which is a veritable museum of Lynchian wonders by comparison.

His next film title has been revealed - Troubled Minx
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

You guys have a mancrush on the word hyperbole. Also, that's the exact dialogue for 92% of villians in Lynch films.
