Liquid Television, and a few of the cartoons I've seen on Adult Swim, satisfy my urge for the bizarre in a similar way that Twin Peaks did. (TP is pretty cartoon-y.) Can't say I like them better, though...

giospurs, I watch Lost as well.  What do you like about Lost that makes it better than Twin Peaks?  Just wondering.

Nefud needs to get rid of the retarded, eye-bleeding sig.

Maybe you could hook up the computer to the television.

QUOTE: The Prisoner is really fun and interesting but in the end, the last two episodes, as much as I admire their craziness, don't come close to a satisfying conclusion. I suppose actually that TP and Prisoner have quite a smiliarity in that aspect. Both were so brilliant and weird at times that it felt like there could be no satisfying conclusion. And neither had one; they both just tried to wow us with their strangeness. The TP finale succeeded much better than Fall Out, which just isn't watchable enough. Whereas you could lose yourself in episode 29 again and again.

For me Fall Out is a much more satisfying conclusion than the final ep of Twin Peaks. For all its madness Fall Out is clearly a resolution of some kind whereas Twin Peaks ends on a cliffhanger. I find both endlessly watchable though, just for their surrealism, inventiveness and humour.

I think it is just the fact that every character and storyline really grips me on Lost. Obviously there is the odd dud (Nikki/Paulo maybe, although I still thought the Expose episode was fun). But partly that is because it feels like all the characters stories connect, so even the small backstories seem to be important to the main plot. Whereas on TP, even in its prime, there was still times when you felt like you just wanted it to get back to Cooper or Leland etc. And after its prime, well, most of the secondary characters had clunkers of plotlines.

For me, Lost is the perfect blend of mystery, characterisation, action and science fiction. It does depend on what happens at the end though. If you are disappointed with the end, then it won't be as exciting rewatching the first seasons and thinking about all these mysteries that might never matter. To an extent, it seems like they could never make an ending that would live up to the hype and intrigue of the earlier seasons. Will they go the way of TP and The Prisoner and pass on the resolution? Even Carnivale didn't have a satisfying end, but that was because of the cancellation so we can hardly complain. Apparently though, they've known the ending since the first season, so I have faith that they can create a fitting end to one of the best TV shows ever.

Yeah, but when you look back at the first five episodes, it seemed like there was going to be an ending that actually made sense. Okay, you could call Fall Out's ending a resolution, but not one that was logical in any way. I've heard McGoohan give his metaphorical explanation, but I had higher hopes for it. You have to say that the combination of the last two episodes do make the most relentlessly surreal 90 minutes of any TV show though. Much more than even TP.

As silly as I found the second to last episode at least they brought Leo McKern back. He was the best No. 2.

He was great, and McGoohan nearly killed him after he came back for Once Upon a Time! Filming it gave him a nervous breakdown apparently.

Or a heart attack. No one seems to know for sure.

 it didn't impress you?
I liked the groovy sixties aspect of it, but there are just too many uninteresting episodes to justify a blind buy.
*spoiler*Two fakeout escape episodes? Come on*spoiler*

Some episodes are definitely more interesting than others, but I always watch every minute of every episode.  But with TP, especially season 2, I have the remote on the ready for fast-forwarding.  The Prisoner never makes me cringe.

Quoting myself from a different thread:

Another small grievance about the show is that it often feels/looks like an episode of other ITC shows like The Saint or The Persuaders. I don't like either one of them and the thought of Roger Moore mincing about in the village bothers me.

I want to know why my shows keep getting cancelled...I can't be the only one who watches them.  Men in Trees and Pushing Daisies...come on, those were some of the best to come out in recent years.  I just hope that Fringe and Eleventh Hour don't get cancelled.  Eleventh Hour has that it is a remake of a British show going for it.  Since X-Files went off the air, I have been waiting for a show similar to it and I got that in both Fringe and Eleventh Hour....

A bit late here, but I LOVED the old Liquid TV.  I bought the Aeon Flux DVD's when they came out a few of years ago...

I never saw TP when it aired (was old enough, just never got into it), so its kind of a hard comparison with show's I've actually had to wait for in serial.   It's a very different genre, but the only one I'd put above TP right now is Flight of the Conchords, because damn that is some funny shit.

I don't know, Susan offered the Sopranos on page one. A great TV series no question. Some perfect characterizations for sure, but it was without that mystery element found in TP. TP offered more of an escape to a strange, and at the same time beautiful off beat universe. One of it's strong draws.

The Sopranos was real-too real.  Few characters ( maybe Meadow, perhaps Adrianna) to really like. Well, I suppose Mr. Imperioli and his perfect face maybe ; )

someone at the door, later

EDit  Oh yeah, it got a tad trying with Tony Soprano's handsome form almost constantly on screen week after week after week. And a final test is that I feel no inclination to watch it again.
