Welcome!

I'm going to start today a series of threads where I'll post a list of interesting things and details to notice in the episodes and the film. Here you'll find for every ep. goofs, easter eggs, hidden things, hard to spot stuff, etc. It's amazing how many details TP has... Of course, some of them are very well known facts (like BOB or Gerard in the Pilot), but they deserve to be listed; probably some of these things are just in my imagination... Let's start with the Pilot.

  • The beginning credits are longest than usually with more saw mill images.
  • Piper Laurie is credited as Katherine Martell, not Catherine.
  • There's a totem in Blue Pine Lodge, you can see it just after Pete finds the body.
  • The pot Harry uses to pour the coffee is quite peculiar, like if it was something from a lab.
  • The interesting look of Mj.Briggs when Sarah phones Beth.
  • Mike Nelson behind the coach when Sarah phones him.
  • You hear how Sarah is still dialing when we see the waterfalls.
  • The electric plant where later Jacques is arrested next to the hotel.
  • A picture of the waterfalls where the norwegians are.
  • Heidi's car is a Volkswagen Beetle.
  • The dancing guy from the high school is in the group Donna greets before talking to James.
  • James is drawing in his table with the pencil he later breaks.
  • School principal, Wolzchek, wears a deer in his jacket.
  • The homecoming queen picture of Laura is different in her house that the one from school.
  • The old woman who is with Sarah, Doc Hayward and Harry is Janice Hogan, a friendly neighbor.
  • The ashtray filled with cigarettes next to Sarah.
  • In the Packard Saw Mill office where Josie and Catherine discuss there's a 1989 calendar with days marked until the date the episode takes place (february).
  • Pete's hat in the wall (which he wears a lot in the series) and his helmet in the table.
  • There are some marks in Ronette's chest that look like cigarette burns.
  • Ed's truck with the Big Ed's Gas Station symbol (an egg-shaped sun).
  • Coop wears his ring in his little finger.
  • Gerard in the elevator with Coop and Truman; you can hear a wind-like sound in that scene.
  • Jacoby wears a big ring, blue shoes and a tie with a hawaiian dancer.
  • The morgue assistant says "Jim" when Coop asks him to leave the room.
  • The Sam Coop mentions is of course Sam Stanley from FWWM.
  • Under Laura's diary and the box of chocolate bunnies there's the same book of algebra Donna or her teacher had in class.
  • We all know that February 5th is marked as DAY ONE in the diary, but we can briefly see too that February 8th is marked "Day Three".
  • The picnic seemed to take place in the same spot James goes later with his bike.
  • It seems that Bobby sees the bike in Laura's eyes too.
  • The norwegian who is reading the contract is the last one to notice Audrey is in the room.
  • In the traincar there are some guys with shotguns. Town people trying to help?
  • A picture of a guy with "Love" and "Hate" written in his chest and wearing handcuffs in Fleshworld.
  • The gun in Leo's and Shelly's TV.
  • The wooden bear carrying a fish inside Big Ed's Gas Station.
  • Ben talking to Catherine in the first shot of the town meeting.
  • You can see the shadows of Doc's feet behind Harriet's door before he enters the room.
  • The butterfly-shaped pendant of Lucy.
  • The establishing shot of the Roadhouse is actually of the Bookhouse.
  • Ducks everywhere: in the lake, in Josie's room, on top of Ed's station, at the entrance of the Roadhouse,...
  • Ed seems to fall before Bobby hits him. We later know why, of course...
  • The Roadhouse is next to the Bookhouse.
  • Harry and Josie are looking right to the spot where Laura was found.
  • BOB in the mirror next to Sarah.

Feel free to post more so this list grows and check for the episode 1 thread soon...

WOW ... 'Excuse me but this is a damn fine list you've enumerated'. You're good! What a great lot of ferreting you've done, Gordon. When I have spare moment, I'll need to revisit the pilot and check all this out but thanks for the list. May be I can add a thing or two - I doubt it though!

Beauty is momentary in the mind -
The fitful tracing of a portal;
But in the flesh it is immortal.
The body dies; the body's beauty lives.
So evenings die, in their green going,
A wave, interminably flowing.
So gardens die, their meek breath scenting
the cowl of winter, done repenting.
So maidens die, to the auroral
Celebration of a maiden's choral.
Susanna's music touched the bawdy strings
Of those white elders; but, escaping,
Left only Death's ironic scraping.
Now in its immortality, it plays
On the clear viol of her memory,
And makes a constant sacrement of praise.

('Peter Quince at the Clavier' by Wallace Stevens)

I'd noticed most of those, but there's a few that I didn't.

Reading that list made me feel all tingly though.

Nice list! There were several things there that I didn't notice.

I've been waiting for the new DVDs before I watch the series again (it's been 6 1/2 agonizing months since I last watched any peaks)

Now I don't know if I can wait till they come out..

Thanks a lot! :P

- They practice football --IN FULL PADS--in February in Twin Peaks

- Touch-tone phone service seems to have eluded Twin Peaks

- The teacher still doesn't know her own students as she takes attendance, yet is reasonably sure of Bobby Briggs' homeroom

- Cooper's accent seems to have a bit of a southern drawl in the pilot

Interesting point, but you dont' know how big the classroom is.  There would be so many students that she just calls out the names because it's easier than looking over the whole room.

When Pete utters the famous line, "She's deeaad...wraaaaped in plaaaasstic..." Harry says, "Where?" not, "Who?"! I don't know--maybe it's just me, but I found this odd.

I'm having trouble finding BOB in that episode. There looks like there's something in the mirror in the last scene, but it's hard to make out... is that what you're talking about?

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Are you sure that is in the Pilot?  I don't believe it is.

Cooper and Bobby's eyesite must be pretty astute, cause I can't see anything in the first viewing of the tape, not until Coop gets in REAL close to her eye.

12 years since I met Twin Peaks and I'm still discovering new stuff. Never noticed BOB on the mirror behind Sarah, that was really something!

"You know, Agent Desmond, I figure this whole office, furniture included, is worth 27,000 dollars"

When Dr Jacoby is talking to Coop and Harry, his finger is RUBBING UNDER the tasselled skirt of the Hawaiian woman on his tie (40 '25")....

But Harry makes a pause after he says: hold on (or calm down?) and Pete probably says: a girls body or something like that. THere is a loooong pause, really. I read what you written and that;s why I was listening for it :)

What's also interesting is that the water level on the rocky beach is significantly higher (way higher) when Pete finds Laura's body than when Harry, Andy and Dr. Hayward show up. Since when do lakes have tides? Obviously, this couldn't be helped because they shot this scene at the Kiana Lodge which is located on the banks of Puget Sound ...a.k.a, the ocean.

The woman who brings the safety deposit box to Cooper and Truman and notes to them that the deerhead, "fell down" is played by Sheryl Lee.  Hence, she has played three roles on the show.

The empty chair in the classroom that Donna takes note of isn't actually Laura's chair, but just an empty chair that Donna free associates it with -the classroom that Audrey, Donna and James are in is the homeroom with students with G and H last names -"Martha Grimes? Donna Hayward? Audrey Horne?" "Here." "James Hurley?"

I thought that too but someone posted a reply to the first point and said it wasn't Sheryl Lee and that she (the poster) had met the actress who played that character.

And on the second point - why isn't that Laura's usual chair?

Guess there must be at least 2 empty seats in the "P" class!!

whoa, are you sure about it not being Sheryl Lee?  I've remembered that ever since the spring of 1990, and thought it was from Sheryl herself.

Laura would be in another entire homeroom than the people in the class. Just like Bobby Briggs is in 106.

*I'm off to hunt for the info -all these years wasted if  that wasn't in fact Sheryl Lee.

Kimmi Robertson plays Lucy MorGan - according to my version of pilot.

You have probably noticed that before, but for me it is quite a discovery. It must have been a mistake of graphic designers (or whoever prepares casts) because she has already have her name on a plate behind her back in her first appearance. Tee heeLucy MORGAN :)
