If this is any help, I would like to make one small point: in FWWM, on Thursday, which is effectively the last day of Laura's life (poor old Laura), she, Donna and James are quite clearly in the same classroom together, and poor old Laura stands up, tears streaming down her cheeks, and her chair is empty, with the sound of the wind blowing in the background, suggesting, you know, death and emptiness.

Awesome list, Yep 15 years later and still find stuff.

And did you ever notice that there is box of Captain Crunch and box of Quaker Oatmeal behind Sarah?

The bank worker who get's Laura's safety deposit box was Alice Brady, played by Shelley Henning not Sheryl Lee.

Yes, this is an interesting point. FWWM was shot post-series, but Lynch basically used the sound throughout all the episodes AND FWWM. It is interesting where and when it occurs.

wow -I'm still shocked to learn the security bank girl was not Sheryl Lee -that was always one of my favorite scenes from the pilot because I chuckled when she said, "I knew Laura, she was always so nice."  Always thought it was a little wink/inside joke.

Just watched the pilot again last night.

I love Audrey, but my God her hair was hideous in the pilot!

Other tidbits-

Liked the music playing when Truman and Josie at night were staring out at the lake.

Why would Audrey sabotage her dad's chance to make money by ruining the deal with the Norwegians?  Makes no sense!

Doesn't James head look weird and red in the pilot?

There is more crying in the pilot than a whole year's worth of TV

The pilot definitely has a more overcast look than the series.

I also thought it was hilarious when Dr. Heyward asked Mike about drinking and driving, and he said "that's okay, Bobby's doing most of the driving" (who is on the hood of the car drinking a beer and acting like he's surfing)

Masterpiece- one of the best eps of the series

Audrey is obviously not very worried about her family's (or better, her daddy's) businesses. She wants to piss off Ben so she can get his attention and the way to do it is messing up with his things, deals, etc.

I also loved some of the fashion attire and mullets in the high school scenes.

 Stonewashed jeans.

Yeah I fully agree with you about the Bobby thing. It throws me off balance just thinking about it.

when the exterior of the Great Northern is shown it is raining, but on the shot of the sign and Audrey heading to the limo, it is not.

Obviously, the stock footage of the waterfall happened when it was raining.

started the circle again!

random musings watching the pilot this weekend

- During the opening credits I never noticed the stream on the right side of the screen (I was too focused on the Twin Peaks sign and road I guess)

- when Pete notices the body, there is something floating out in the water ( a duck or buoy?)

- picture to the right of Sheriff Truman when he receives Pete's phone call is one HUGE tree

- Andy has a mullet

- Do the Hornes live in the hotel?  If they're so rich, why don't they have a place of their own?

- sawmill worker next to Bobby in Double R is wearing his hardhat! (Mr. Pulaski?)

- sign in Double R says - Saturday All U Can Eat Spaghetti - YUCK!

- After Bobby says to Norma , see you in my dreams, Norma says not if I see you first.  Is she seriously flirting with him?

- Shelly is hardcore if she is drinking from a flask that early in the morning - hot and a partygirl

- If Leo is home, Bobby slamming on the brakes and peeling out leaving is beyond stupid

- Audrey takes one drag off her cigarette and then puts it out in her locker ashtray

- I like when Bobby snaps his fingers in the school library when being interrogated and the Bookhouse Boys theme starts

- When Leo interrogates Shelly about types of cigs she smokes, she says her and Norma pick up whatever is around - is Norma a smoker?

- Does Donna and her sister have a sink in their actual bedroom?

- If the bookhouse boys are a secret society, why do they have a big neon sign?

from European Pilot ending

- You can see BOB much easier in the mirror than in the pilot where his image is chopped off.  Since BOB is in the mirror, is Leland standing near Sarah Palmer when she has her vision?  If you look close, BOB actually turns his head at one point!  Very cool!

- Does the circle of 12 candles in the basement represent Glastonbury Grove? Does the half heart necklace in the middle of the circle on the mound represent Laura in the Lodge?

- in the dream sequence, Cooper looks like he's sweating/bleeding a lot on his shirt and he has some strange pins on his lapel

Just random things I noticed- any comments?

Audrey and the Hornes live at The Grange - a different section than the rest of the hotel.  I don't remember how I know that.  it's more apparant in the pilot that it's a seperate part of the hotel.

Oh Gordon - I love these "did you notice" posts!!!  You do a damn fine job at it too!

Here's something I can never figure out - why is Mike (Snake) such an aggressive jerk in the pilot and FWWM and in the series he seems laid-back and timid....it's like it's 2 different people...

I completely agree with the observation of Shelley saying that "her and Norma" pick up all kinds of cigarettes at the diner. Every time i hear that part, i always wonder if you ever see Norma smoking.

And the bit about Shelley and Bobby drinking from the hip flask. I love that scene so much.

You'll also notice, if I recall, that the picture of the large tree is NOT there in episode one. I think it's either not there, or it's replaced by some other random picture. In episode two a big tree picture is back, but it's a more rudimentary tree painting... again, this is just from memory.

One other thing that I've noticed that I haven't seen mentioned is that when Bob is shot in the alternate ending,  you can see rope tied to his feet, as if they yanked on the rope to make him fall back more realistically.

Oh, and one other thing... not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I know I've seen it before.

You can see Bobby reach into his jacket pocket to put on some brass knuckles before he punches Ed. This is further proved by the filmed deleted scene where Norma says to Shelley "Bobby Briggs attacked Ed Hurley with a pair of brass knuckles at the Road House last night." The scene is filmed right in front of Leo's red car that is later talked about by Dr. Jacoby.

Small point, but that's not Leo's car, It's Norma's red station wagon.

Ahh, ok. I couldn't remember... I just remembered that it was red. :) Thanks for the correction.

Did anyone ever notice that when Audrey is seen sitting in the car waiting to be driven to school, it looks as though the back side window was taken out?

I only found out about Bob in the mirror by the end of the episode when I had the chance to rewatch the series the first time on DVD! It was quite a shocking surprise. And it's pretty genius stuff, when you know that Leland is possessed by Bob, seeing Sarah calling "Leland!" as he in fact is standing right in front of her. Well, maybe her vision of "him" by the foot of the bed and his actual appearance in front of her make her startle and shriek!

"Did they scoff the whole damn Smörgåsbord?" (Audrey)

So much stuff to take in! Thanks for taking the time to do it!

I've always wondered about the dancing guy in the school, but in the end I just had to put it down to good old Lynchian mischief!

I am mad at myself that I haven't got the itch in a long time to rewatch the series and FWWM.  I haven't watched it since last June through August!  I need to go there, dammit!

A superb list! Thanks! :)

I've been thinking about this: The establishing shot of the Roadhouse is actually of the Bookhouse.

Why is this? First they show as you say, an establishing shot of the Bookhouse. Then there are shots inside the Roadhouse. Then come exterior shots of the Roadhouse. I don't know why there's a shot of the Bookhouse in the begnining. Anyone know? It feels wrong.

Once again, great list! :)

I'm not sure if any other norwegians have mentioned this, but the translator offers a joke that isn't translated near the end of the scene with the meeting in the Great Northern conference room. After he translates Ben's "My airsacks have never felt so good", and the clerk tells Leland about the phone call waiting, the translator says in the background: "Det var godt at han ikke så buksene som han jogger i og", which means "it's a good thing he didn't see the pants he jogs in too".
