I agree with you, Maddy.

When Laura Doppelganger starts crawling over that couch backwards like a spider, then revolves and comes towards the screen, in that terrifying backwards scream....*shiver*

This would look good on your wall.

The entire episode when the police arrest Ben Horne and then Cooper and Truman go to the Roadhouse and then it cuts to the Palmers' house with Leland and Maddy. You have this scene at the start where What a Wonderful World is playing on the gramophone, and Leland, Sarah and Maddy are having a really nice chat. But later on, the same record has come to an end and no one has stopped it or taken off the needle.

So there is a contrast between the beautiful things in the world and the great evil that lurks in the woods. And when it cuts backs to Julee Cruise singing The World Spins and the atmosphere in the Roadhouse becomes overwhelmed with sadness... Every time I watch that I cry, because it's so sad. And you can see that even Agent Cooper is on the brink of crying, because he looks upwards. He has just had this revelation and he's trying to make sense of it.

It's just one of the most moving things I've ever seen. It's a bit like some of Lars von Trier's films, eg, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark.

Very eloquently put Fred.

I think all of Twin Peaks is like that.  About light and shade, and showing us things in the world that we perhaps don't want to deal with, or simply pretend don't exist, when infact it is happening all around us.  But often our fears of the darkness are worse than the reality of what we find there, because it's the darkness within our emotions, and the only power it has is that which we project on to it.  That's sort of how that episode comes across to me.  Traagic, but it sort of has a beautiful ending at the same time.  Not necessarily a happy one, but  a peaceful one.

"watch out for my cousin.."

QUOTE:Laura screaming in the lodge still scares the crap out of me, but the most disturbing moment would definately have to be Bob crawling ove the couch towards maddie. Creepiness.

That was always the scariest one to me, too.  I remember the first time it was on, I got really freaked out after that scene and had terrible nightmares.  And it wasn't just from listening to "Just You and I"!

greets folks, this is my first post.

Speaking of most disturbing TP moment.. there's one scene that haunted me for nearly 15 years. The scene after maddy, dona and james record a song. There's this empty shot of the living room and the sofa and maddy being disturbed by something. All of the sudden, with no warning in any way, BOB appears and starts walking towards the sofa and walks over it geting close to the camera. JESSUS CHRIST i swear to god I was 4 years old when i watched the show on television and i remmembered this scene with details for nearly 15 years.

The other scene that really amazed me was the scene in the end of "The path to the BL" episode. The mayor was struggling with his mic and then everything went black. 2 spotlights on cooper and the Giant who appeared on stage, waving his hands "NO" . Seconds later everything goes back to normal and then the mayor says "This isn't right.. there's something wrong here.." and some shots of the empty TP streets at night while he's saying that. That scene was downright brilliant.

There are MANY shockingly amazing scenes in the series but these 2(as a single scene) were the very best cinematic history has to offer to me :).

This isn't right... There's something wrong here...

TP has lots of scary and disturbing moments, but BOB's murder of Maddy is undoubtedly the scariest to me. No scene moves me or scares me like that scene. It is the most effective and scariest murder scene I have ever seen. Laura screaming in the Black Lodge and the doppelganger midget both get honorable mentions, but the scene that gets under my skin most after that (oddly enough) is when the old man gives Coop the coffee in ep 29. I don't know why, but the way he shuffles forward saying "Coffee" over and over again scares the hell out of me... the stuff that nightmares are made of. Oh and that scene in FWWM where Leland is angry over Laura for not washing her hands is pretty tense and scary as well.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Odd.. I think that's the one dream sequence in the entire TP saga that falls flat. Especially after the murder scene in FWWM (although that itself paled in comparison to Maddy's murder).

That's an amazing scene, one of my favorite from the series. It's not much talked about around here though. This scene is more creepy than scary or disturbing to me though... like the Club Silencio scene in Mulholland. It's one of Lynch's best scenes.

Agreed.  It's such a good moment that Mark Romanek kind of made an entire Beck video out of it.

"Devil's Haircut"

However, officially the inspiration for that video is Francois Truffaut's "Les 400 coups" ("The 400 Blows"). I agree that it looks a lot like the Twin Peaks scene, though.

"What credit card do you want to put that on?"
"Caash, prease."

I didn't know about the 400 Blows inspiration, but that's neat information. I can see the frozen image idea paralleled effectively.

As far as the BOB thing, I wasn't referring to the look of the video so much as the use of the double-take trick. We're shown something dangerous, and it's suddenly focused on in a jarringly mechanical way, pulling us toward it, which increases the danger further. And because it's been revealed within a scene we remember from so recently, at which time we didn't see it, we're forced to wonder "was it really there, hiding all the time?" That gives it a sinister feel. The overall effect is disturbing and exciting, and definitely memorable.

I'm not saying we're conscious of that process, I'm just trying to describe what I see underyling it.

(And for the record, this scene with BOB at the foot of the bed is pretty much the BOB scene for me, the perfect combination of scary and creepy.  For pure fright inducement, it's BOB behind the dresser -- even typing it made me cringe a little...)

The last scene of ep.27,when we see the Roadhouse, then RR cafe, the corridors of the school, the hotel and the sheriff station when we hear the telephone ringing and at the same time that frightening music that sounds, and finally we see the dark forest ,the sound of the wind is so creepy..and then the black lodge and BOB's hand emerging...all this gives you the feeling that something terrible is going to happen!oh...when i watch that scene,i feel really very scared and disturbed!Really very very creepy!

Beware of BOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

The one scen that I have found truley disturbing is in the last episode "Beyond Life and Death", were Laura's screaming doubleganger kinda crawls around the sofa in the black lodge,  and run straight into the camera screaming the shit out of me!

I absolutely LOVE Ms. Palmer's message to Major Briggs: "I'm in the Black Lodge with Dale Cooper."  Such a great use of audio there.... doubling Sarah's whisper with the detuned reversed voice... and it's so well-performed.  A real nice, understated creepy moment, of the sort that was totally missing in Lynch's absence.

This one scares me more every time I see it. Just knowing that it's coming creates a feeeling of dread. Brilliant moment of TV.

Maddy's death scene scare the Hell out of me everytime.

That said, I do enjoy watching Maddy get killed. I could watch Maddy die a 100 times a day and I'd never get bored.

On the second day he came
With a single red rose
Said "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?"
I nodded my head as I lay on the bed
He said, "If I show you the roses will you follow?"

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he stood smiling above me
With a rock in his fist

They call me the wild rose
But my name was Eliza Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Eliza Day

Ah, the terrifying moment when Maddie sees BOB/Leland and realizes the truth. Imagining how she must have felt is truly chilling. The kill in itself rather more surreal and otherworldly than plain scary, but overall the atmosphere is very haunting.

We're saying the same thing, except I've maybe expressed it as though I get perverse enjoyment out of seeing Maddy killed. Perhaps I do. Perhaps you do. Isn't that the point? The reason why we both love it when Maddy dies; the sadness, the sorrow and pain but the compultion to watch it again and again?

I understand what you mean :) I enjoy watching the killing, too, cause the scene was done perfectly,Sheryl Lee,Frank Silva and Ray Wise did great work, the murder was so real, for a moment I think it's really happening and I also can watch the scene many times without getting bored!
