Hello everyone. This is my first post. My name is George and I'm a huge Twin Peaks Fan. I'm only one of 5 people that I personally now that watched Twin Peaks as they aired on ABC in 1990 and 1991.

Anyway, with all of the great and classic moments of the show, the one that was the most frightening and disturbing is the last few minutes of the first episode of season 2. If you don't recall what scene I'm referring to then let me refresh your memory. It is when Ronnette Pulaski is in her dark hospital room, lying there and then she starts to, slowly, raise her arms. Then she has the flash back sequence of Laura's murder. Damm !!! I still get the chills each time I see it or even think about it. Laura's terrible, screaching screams, and the way her face looks when the strob light flashes on it. HORRIFYING !!!!

Would you agree ? If not what then is (in your opinion) the most frightening / disturbing moment or scene in Twin Peaks ?

I would rather stand and die than have to live and kneel.

I totally agree, but of course there is many scenes that scares me. Uhm...Yeah, Windom Earle of course, especially when he and Dale are in the Black Lodge.

Also Bob scares me, any time, it doesn't matter which scene...everyone of them i guess!

I think Laura realising that Leland is BOB is pretty disturbing.   Could her situation be any worse ?

I mean it like it is .... like it sounds ...

Not exactly frightening...I don't find anything frightening about BOB(or anything else in twin peaks, there aren't any  scenes with BOB that can frighten me) ...though the last episode is very disturbing and confusing.

I´ve been watching TP with a bunch of my friends lately. One girl is a TP virgin and it´s so cool sitting next to her and feel her reactions to the different scenes. Even the ones without Bob and all the obvious scary parts. Last night we watched eps. 24, 25 , 26 and 27 and you should have seen her flip out over the Cooper/Annie scene in the RR where the plates fall on the floor when they kiss. The whole atmosphere around that scene made her go "oh nooo, what´s going ON, someone is coming" "who´s that person sitting there?" She couldn´t sit stil.
I really enjoy watching it with them and see the "real" reactions.

Now what is disturbing is the fact that someone wont get frightened by Bob. That, of course, are your feelings iva, but it´s a shame that you don´t get that chill that Bob was ment to give people.

I find the scene at the Haywards with Maddy so brilliantly made. There´s not even any background music to warn you about Bob coming in order get you all tense. Suddenly he´s there, you don´t expect it and that sure makes it my most frightening moment of TP.

Maddy's murder scene has a couple of very scary things in it. The first time Maddy comes into shot, with the spotlight over the doorway (Uncle Leland? What's that smell?) is somewhat horrifying to me. Then the sound effect of Leland punching her nosebone in half is really gruesome. I can only go by how I felt seeing these things for the first time all those years ago, but that scene was pretty much the worst for me.

The first ever shot of BOB, crouching down as seen by Sarah - that used to make me scared to go to bed at night.

Finally, the shot of BOB in Laura's bedroom, behind the dresser where she keeps her secret diary (in FWWM). That one never fails to give me chills.

So, like most people, the BOB moments are the worst for me. My girlfriend doesn't mind them so much - but she leaves the room whenever they check someone's fingernails for particles - LOL

And it comes as no surprise to me that Ivalinda isn't afraid of BOB! I think she'd like to marry BOB, if she could!

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

I'm going to go with the last 20-25 minutes of episode 29. Everything building up...all the luscious Black Lodge scenes...Windom, Coop, Bob...Sycamore Trees...the doppelganger..."HOW'S ANNIE!??!" Damn.

The night shots of the empty Great Northern hallway and RR parking lot before Maddy is killed are pretty eerie, too

I agree with the first post in here.

There many things in Twin Peaks which were shocking, scary and so on. But the one which was par excellance FRIGHTENING more than any other is indeed the first full vision of Laura's murder that we see - as we look through Ronnette's eyes at the end of Ep.8.

Of course the main thing we could use as counterexample is Maddy's murder. And sure - it is as a whole STRONGER. But not just because of plain SCARE that it arouses. There's more to it - first of all it's totally shocking to see that it is Leland, then - because it is something new that is happening again. Laura's murder is horrible to watch but after all we had known that she was dead anyway... in Ep.14 a truly new tragedy occurs :-(

But the most frightening in the basic sense of the word - is Ronnette's vision.

QUOTE:an episode toward the end of season 2. Coop has returned from a major police operation. (Possibly the stand off with Renault, i can't recall). He puts his jacket onto the coat hook in his room, turning smiling to himself, maybe deep in thought of pleasant memories(Annie?) he suddenly stops. Mouth turns into a frown. Cut to his bed. That mask...

Interesting you should mention it - actually I wouldn't call it frightening, it's too much of a stage-play effect to be terrifying, but I truly like this moment.
Especially what you call "deep in thought of pleasant memories". Before he enters his room he walks through the corridors of Great Northern in such a relaxed way, whistling a tune which makes a perfect match with the Badalamenti music in the background. I appreciate this moment a lot, also, it comes right after the rather tense finale of the Evelyn/Malcolm trouble, and creates a great counter to that scene where Malcolm pretends to be BOB ;-).
Let's not forget that Coop actually passes by a disguised Earle in the hotel elevator! So we know he has just been there

But Page Ripped Out, it's nice to see how you mix the events from different episodes :-)))
What you are referring to is Ep.22, so Annie was nowhere to be met in Twin Peaks at that time. While Renault was already dead... he he he :-)

I'm not sure, too, but does Cooper really come into his room all relaxed?... I know there is one moment when he comes into the room relaxed and then something unexpected happens, but also another scene where he notices something is wrong before he opens the door, so takes out a gun and comes in very alarmed. Wasn't the latter right before the Caroline mask?...
Somebody help me out please :-)

P.S. Perhaps some of the newer members don't know yet that this episode is for no good reason considered the worst episode of the series by many fans and related to (with contempt) as the "Diane Keaton episode". THis is of course absurd as the episode is one of the best that happened after Leland's death

The scene that disturbed me most was when Maddy was murdered. It was just grotesque.

Oh, and obviously the Bob crawling over the sofa scene was rather frightening.

What about every time, after we discovered the identity of Laura's killer, Leland's faked crying face suddenly turned into an evil grin. He was brilliant at pulling that off.

I'll agree with most everyone that Maddy's death and the Black Lodge scenes in the last episode were the most frightening for me.

The thing about Maddy's death was the atmosphere in the room. No music, no other people, just the click of the record player for what seemed to be an eternity. Whole thing just gave me goosebumps.

It might not be the most frightening...but it definitely raised some goosebumps for me...

It's the first time we see Windom Earle...sitting at the chess board in the dark...with the leaves blowing in through open window. "You may call me Windom...Windom Earle." That was so well done in my opinion...so creepy...so PEAKS.

The "Wash your hands!" scene in FWWM is always creepy to me...especially when he starts playing with her necklace, and Sarah says, "Don't do that...she doesn't like that..." and Leland turns and stares her down with those cold eyes, "How do you know what she likes?"

The most frightening/disturbing for me is the final scene in the traincar. To see Laura faced with that pure evil--to see Bob do what he does...and how much he enjoys it.

These scenes maybe disturbing to some, but not to me.  Most are beautiful. It is like Pasolini, or Bunuel the images change us or horrify. We are left with are imaginations. I could have long list of moments that were brutal with violence and incest. I still see it all as beauty, colour, texture, light and lack of, human nature and surrealism. Lynch is a painter.

I have to agree with the original poster.

That scene is disturbing!

It actually is a little more cryptic than the FWWM murder scene.

Yeah, I'll go with the first post, Ronette dreaming about BOB killing Laura at the hospital was the worst scene to me. I watched for the first time in 1994, I guess I was 7 back then. I couldn't sleep for months. It really scared me. Maybe that was the reason I became a fan of the show. I wanted to see and understand the series that had that scene that scared me so much, what scared me so much. Laura's murder in FWWM is nothing compared to Ronette's dream, in my opinion. And it's a lot more violent, there's more blood. Curious...

Laura's murder scene is not on completely frightening, but I think it's much scarier and more disturbing than her murder scene in FWWM! Maybe it's because of her screams and what you don't see.... I dunno. Effing scary though!  Oh, and I also watched the show on it's original airing ~ and I'm soooooo glad I did!?!

Laura screaming in the lodge still scares the crap out of me, but the most disturbing moment would definately have to be Bob crawling ove the couch towards maddie. Creepiness.

that's weird, I thought I'd already posted in this thread. Oh well

the scariest moment for me has always been and will always be, the scene in episode 20, where Laura's doppelganger runs towards the screen, screaming.  There's just something about her that looks like she is going to jump out of the screen and onto your lap and scream in your face or something.  That scene with BOB and Maddy (couch) didn't bother me much.  The first time I watched it, yes, but then I was only 13.  The first time I watched that scene with Laura I was so terrified I hid under the duvet and then it was made worse when every time I thought she'd gone she came back!  And when she screamed at Cooper!  Even now there are times if I've had a bad dream the night before I'm planning on watching a few episodes I actually get nervous about watching it!  Funnily enough I dreamed about that scene last night, but instead of the usual ending (Laura just disappearing off screen after Coop runs away) she was still screaming and vanished into the red drapes, screaming, and I was trying to save her and then her eyes were like rolling around and stuff. It was one scary ass dream, I kid you not.

"watch out for my cousin.."
