as an additional observation on the music site: what strikes me most about it (and saying this, i'm not sure how much of a hand DL has had in the actual appearance of the site, maybe minimal, maybe absolute) us the nostalgia.  Considering when queried about Twin Peaks, DL is often vague, bordering on evasive. Yet the site is chock full of stills from twin peaks; some more obscure than others, as if designed by one of the webmasters of one of the many peaks fasn sites. it seems strange, (but good!) if DL is revisiting twin peaks so fondly

I really don't like the site for a number of reasons...

Firstly, just like the previous Lynch site, it's Flash heavy, nobody uses Flash to design websites anymore, I'm sorry to say it's just not a good idea and one I would have thought they would have learnt from before.

Secondly, and this is connected to my Flash objections - it's too slow, it doesn't work with the most widely used Browser, nor will it work with iPhone/iPad, and therefore if Lynch is trying to launch this as a new venture it's doomed to fail already.

Finally, the content isn't anything to get excited about - the soundtrack material from "Inland Empire" and "Twin Peaks" has been available on iTunes for ages and a couple of tracks (two versions of the same one) for the Archive is pretty lame, don't you think?  I, for one, am not going to labour through installing another browser just to buy a few tracks for 99 cents.  If they'd waited until there was an album's worth of material for $9.99, I probably would have made the effort.

In short, this just doesn't seem very much worth it's while and just another indicaton of Lynch having run out of new ideas to invest his time in.

Sorry, but it had to be said...

I just checked it out the other day, had no problems loading it and I thoroughly enjoyed the content.  Again I loaded it on firefox.

It works fine with Safari. I had trouble using the site until I realised it was due to my own stupidity (I was clicking the down arrow instead of dragging it) and not a technical glitch.

davidlynch.com is a wonderful platform for DL to interact with the people who love his work. The Twin Peaks Archives album and abundance of rare stills are manna from heaven to a long-term, hardcore Lynch fan such as I. Some people won't like it but isn't that always the way?

Obviously there's not much on there at the moment because it's new, and knowing DL it'll be gone within a year and davidlynch.com will become a virtual bazaar selling rugs, but the possibilities are endless and exciting.

Don't get me wrong - I want to like it and I appreciate the effort, however, at this time I find it infuirating that it doesn't work with IE.  If that was my site and I knew that more than 60% of people online couldn't use it I'm would be deeply worried, as I sure would Jordan.

As for the content, I just wished they'd launched with something more remarkable than a couple of new tracks, a complete album of new TP Archive material to download (even if the option to just buy individual tracks) would have convinced me to try other browsers in order to make a purchase.

i get what you're saying exy, and in some ways i agree with you; the site is nice but a bit clunky; but i don't tihnk downloading a new browser is that arduous a task; but the lack of ipad etc compatibility suggests a lack of marketing foresight. But yeh, the IE Tracks available and TP season 2 have been out for years, but i guess from Lynch's end it means the commision doesn't go to apple to itunes users. I'm easily pleassed, so any nugget of music satisfies me!

Explorer is too mainstream for DL.
Maybe you would feel more at home at michaelbay.com?

The latest addition to the Twin Peaks Archive album is Nightsea Wind from Fire Walk With Me*

I'm becoming obsessed with this Twin Peaks Archive business.

It's being touted as open-ended so i'm hoping that won't be for a while yet.

I must have listened to the Mysterioso bundle fifty times this morning.

The first time I tried downloading it the box froze and I was left pummelling the keyboard like the babysitter trapped in the bedevilled closet in The Amityville Horror.

Turns out I needed a software update.

I love the music from the series (especially the 'nostalgia' bundle) but the very idea that Deer Meadow Shuffle, Nightsea Wind and Mysterioso (numbers 1 and 2) might never have been released fills me with clammy dread.

I'm so used to Fire Walk With Me being treated as a poor relation of the series, I think I've developed self-esteem issues by proxy.

I adore FWWM and am so glad of these tracks; was so surprised at the releases of them...FWWM is very underrated in Lynch's canon. I think it's wonderful, and probably Lynch's best for the amazing music, sublime, sinister sound design throughout.

I effing love it, I want to kiss Ray Wise's big nose

This is truly the best use of that domain name.

I want to buy 'em all at once, so I'm biding my time.

I couldn't agree more. I've spent the last couple of days wandering around the house listening to music from Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me on my iPod. Deer Meadow Shuffle, Nightsea Wind and Mysterioso are more representative of FWWM's (exquisite) sound design than anything on the original soundtrack - because they're embedded in the texture of the film probably. I love ambient noise in DL films. FWWM, Eraserhead and the Fred and Renee segment of Lost Highway are like cocoons of sound.

And whilst I'm drifting in fanboy reverie, I adore the download 'artwork'. I'm not bothered about a CD release of the Twin Peaks archive (the open album sounds peachy) but the square images of the Fat Trout trailer park etc. would look beautiful in a booklet... Hopefully there'll be enough FWWM downloads to put together my own ambient 'score' playlist to accompany the soundtrack.

Ah, I remember self restraint... I'm loving having a new piece of music to listen to each week.

Wondrous website btw.

I'm really enjoying the site too. This is the first time I've been excited by anything Lynch has put out for a while. Obviously, these aren't really 'new' but they're very welcome surprises. It really says something for Lynch and Badalamenti's work that going into the fourth album release from Twin Peaks the quality is still astoundingly high.

Works fine on my iPad. If it works on that, it should work on anything!
