QUOTE:  Considering how rude people are at the film night in general, I don't see what they were doing wrong.  Half of the people didn't even stay for the freakin' movie.  We have to watch Josh's "homage" every year, and I haven't heard any complaints.

Chris, you are the first to complain about Innner Balance and defend Twin Twin Peaks. Not to start a fight, but Inner Balance is not a homage. It's the opening scene of an original feature. And people love it. Cinematographer of Juno, shot on 35mm, professional actors, 5 minutes. It's not a wonder. Or are you talking about the Dark Reel trailer? We're confused here, that's a slasher comedy movie. Both have been shown the same number of times as Puppy Love: twice. I think whatever Fest veterans, including Chris M. with Flappy, want to show, should be supported. And rhose directors are polite during the other screenings. Plus, the creators of Mulholland Dr. WERE NOT THERE... Having to watch Twin Twin Peaks was like watching someone else's family movies during your family reunion. And it was, like, really long!

No need to fight, we just have different opinions.  I, going to a Twin Peaks Fest, would rather watch a goofy unprofessional film that has to do with Twin Peaks than a film which, if not an homage, than is just a blatant rip-off, made by a celebrated fanboy.  The people you're hanging around with might love it, but they also have a more personal tie with it.  I was not talking about Dark Reel, which I think looks interesting from the trailer; nor am I interested in bashing Josh's film.  However, seriously critiquing Twin Twin Peaks is just silly.

That being said, the best part of that movie, to me, was that the guy playing Doc Hayward is about the youngest member of the cast.  Very amusing.

Thought I'd also mention, since it wasn't even introduced, the very short closing (of the first half) film: Terror (Approx.).  Kimmy's crew said it was their favorite, & at only a bit over half a minute, it certainly didn't overstay its welcome. Since it was a humorous look at paranoia (the walls of someone's home begin to literally close in), I thought it fit in well with M.D.  It was written/directed by my Flappy co-creator Matt Levinthal. I had nothing to do with it, except for producing its star: my son Nick. Hope others dug it...

I did like it!  It reminded me a little of House of leaves.

Nick and Matt's film was fantastic!  I could totally relate to the emotions.

We had discussed doing a TPFest Lynchian Short Film Compet with films UNDER 5 MINUTES and hope Amanda and Jared consider it for the 20 year gala next year.  Greg Olson seemed to like the idea and I think there's a lot of talent out there who would participate.

Angel, I know what you're saying. The problem with any fan created film is that we love the show SO much, and single actors are so ingrained in our minds, that nothing would ever compare. There is only one Doc Hayward, there is only one Sheriff Truman. So because that, it sort of pales in comparison.

But it was never really suppose to be perfect like the Twin Peaks that we know and love. In a way, it's similar to Flappy.

For those that didn't like Twin Twin Peaks, I would still suggest they read the fan fiction continuation that was written by Amanda and Karlos and everyone. When your'e reading it, you see the correct Truman, and Doc Hayward, etc. and because of that it's more enjoyable.

Sure, it was just a fan film, but I still applaud the effort that Helen put into creating the piece. At least she tried doing something creative, and I always applaud people being creative. I am of the same feeling with Flappy. Some people didn't like it, but at least Chris and the others on that project created somethings. :)

Just as a postscript, I had no complaints about the writing, which is why my eyes were closed through most of it. The script was interesting and plausible.

I just think it was lazy casting (Truman was a woman that wasn't even in drag, or masculine in appearance) and for an amateur bit-- I mean, worse than high school theater-- it dragged to an uncomfortable length.

But I guess I do have to give them credit for going on location and following through.

OSF's costume is more Michael Caine in Dressed to Kill than Denise Bryson.

So you think its silly to critique a piece of trash like TTP but not silly to cut apart Innner Balance, made by a man all of us have come to respect for his sincere love and knowledge of film? that is not a difference of opinion. that is hypocrisy. and from the first moment dugpa put up the trailer of TTP on his news site weeks ago, i was cringing. i understand homage, i understand parody, but it was neither. it was like watching the end of the school year project for an AV club sophmore whos just learned how to turn on the camera and finally found the zoom control but has yet to figure out what the lenses do. and worst of all, as angel said, its insulting to those who have made this fest a priority for years, and have worked so hard(jared, josh, and amanda this especially means you, but really its everyone involved, from one suave folk to nuart to booth) to keep the class and respect the fest deserves, not to mention the cast members happy and gracious enough to take part and return and actually become a part of the fest like the rest of us. foder like TTP trivializes the sincere love, appreciation and dedication it has taken to bring the fest into fruition and the world of twin peaks into our hearts.

Dana is in Inner Balance, and "celebrated fanboy" Josh (can't argue there) made it. That makes it relevant to both Twin Peaks and the Festival. Neither myself nor any festgoers that were looking forward to seeing Inner Balance a 2nd time had "personal ties" to it, fyi. (Wish Twin Twin Peaks was that much of a "rip off", hm)

Some people were complaining that Surveillance was the feature last year because it wasn't a David Lynch film. There's a definite lack of new material to show.

Eh, wouldn't have said anything if they hadn't been so disrespectful. Making out and running around and high fiving eachother right in front of/over Charlotte during her film.

Personally...I think everyone needs to GET THE F**K OVER IT.

Seriously, you're arguing on the internet about a 17 minute fan film. Really? Don't we all have better things to do? Helen Reed is a film STUDENT. When you're a film STUDENT, you can't always get decent actors to be in your films. So you make do. Not everyone in it was terrible. And from Helen's perspective, it was about the project as a whole, not just the acting. Ignore the acting, and it was a decently-made film.

I'm not going to bash anything we show at film night because trust me, we shown some stupid shit over the years, but we show it because we like to give people the chance to put their stuff out there. Greg Olson is the driving force behind this, and we appreciate it. Even if it means we had to watch Flappy every year for damn near five years straight. And let me tell you, attendees complain about pretty much anything we show that isn't Twin Peaks. I got just as many people whining about Inner Balance as I did about Twin Twin Peaks. And we've had more people complain about Flappy than I would have thought possible. It's all personal perspective and us organizers do what we can to appease attendee fickleness (a huge part of the reason we did NOT have Nightsage at the festival this year...the number of people complaining about them was impressive). And as far as the celebs are concerned...they're big boys and girls. I doubt they were sitting there contemplating ditching the fest because a group of people decided to be rude. I mentioned the incident to Charlotte later and she said she wasn't even bothered by it. Her response: "Sometimes people are just like that."

Frankly, it's damn tacky to sit here in this thread and bash either Josh or Helen. I don't give a crap how rude anyone was being. Rebel asked for an update on the festival, and this is what she's given. Real nice, internet. Real nice.

It was supposed to be Dennis AND Denise, a parfait (hence the layers), a prequel, as he was not comfortable enough to be fully femme...
