I liked FWWM, but I don't think it creates the same mood as TP.
Man! Smell those trees. Smell those Douglas firs.

that's an awesome idea... i'm gonna have to do that soon.
i made the noob mistake of trying to watch FWWM first, and of course didn't understand a damn thing at the time... i just watched it again and found it absolutely brilliant. i agree that it needs multiple watchings to make sense of all of it. it's very very different from TP and it has to be - this is laura's psychosis/possession/whatever we're wading through, and it's pretty intense stuff. no one else in TP is quite as effed up as laura palmer, and it's gonna be a different experience watching her get ready to die as opposed to watching everyone else react to her death for 29 episodes. i don't think you can compare the two. i think FWWM was meant to compliment the series, not extend it. if you're looking for an extra TP episode then yes, you're going to be disappointed. i was surprised to find i like james a lot more now, after watching his reaction to laura slapping him. that puppydog act throughout TP was wearing pretty thin, it was nice to see that he had another side to him.
i actually think there were a lot of quirky parts in it. irene the waitress? oh hell yes. "would you like to hear our specials? we don't have any."
there's so much i still don't understand though... like who exactly did bobby shoot in the woods? can anyone clear that up for me?
Er, would you like some lemonade? I also have some saltines and some apple butter. Or would you like to wash your hands? kittyvillain.blogspot.com

| He killed the Deer Meadow deputy that was giving Agent Desmond a hard time in the beginning of the film.
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

I actually have both the series and the movie on dvd and like both. I wish the movie had some of the other characters in it or sometimes i wish it was like another 30 minutes or an hour longer so we could have seen more stuff but i like the movie and the way it ended. I wish they would have done a movie on dale and the other characters after the series ended cause the series ending leaves so much up in the air it leaves a lot of the characters fates really up in the air.

I love both the endings of FWWM and TP series. The ending of FWWM is a happy ending to me.
Yet I've always wondered about the series...what would have happened,if there had been a 3d Season.. would BOB have been defeated once and for all or maybe not... Maybe as long as love and fear exist in this world, there will always be BOB/evil... Anyways,I love the movie and the series the way they are and the way the end. I just can't stop admiring Lynch's mind and his perfectionism and genius ideas!
Beware of BOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

I definitely appreciate FWWM for what it is - a prequal to the series, the last days of Laura Palmer. It allows a full-fledged look into the life of a girl we got to know little by little through other people during the series. All through the series we caught small glimpses of Laura - we saw the flashback with her and James and the necklace; the video of her and Donna dancing at the picnic; her face superimposed on Donna's while Donna and Sarah Palmer talk; Ronette's dream; the scenes in Cooper's dream and in the lodge; we see what she would have looked like when Maddy dresses up like her; we hear her voice on the recorded messages to Jacoby; hear passages from her diary from Harold; and all of the photographs we see during the series (the Palmer's house, Ben Horne's office). We also get to hear about her troubled story bit by bit as the characters closest to her (Donna, James, Maddy, Bobby, etc...) talk about their experiences with her. But we never SEE this for ourselves, and for me that left something of a void. Yes, there was value in the mysterious aspect of the series and the things we had to leave to our imagination but that curiosity was still there for me nonetheless, and I felt like I got a closer look at who Laura was when I saw FWWM, just as I did when I read the secret diary. I do understand why some people say they don't like it. It is very dark and the material is right in your face. It does not have the quirky humor of the series (which I also love). But I always keep in mind when I watch it what the purpose of the film is - it isn't necessarily to revisit story-lines we saw in the movie. The focus is on Laura and what she endured in her last week of life. Actually seeing this helps to put all of the under-the-surface stuff we caught small pieces of in the series together. The only disappointment I have is that I would still like to see even MORE background - dynamics of Laura's relationships with Ben Horne, Shelley, Blackie, Audrey (and probably many others) are things we didn't get to see in FWWM that I find interesting, still.

See, I just don't get this from the movie. The movie doesn't tie anything about Laura together that I did not already know or could not already surmise from watching the series. All it really does is make explicit what was once implicit but still well-understood--some might argue that that aspect of the film makes certain parts of FWWM overly gratuitous. The best stuff with Laura is stuff that doesn't really involve Laura so to speak, like when she dreams that Annie tells her to write something about Dale in her diary. That shit is rad! If there was more of that kind of thing, I think FWWM would be less divisive among the fanbase. Those sorts of scenes expand your understanding of Twin Peaks and really ignite your imagination. The other stuff tends to be just kind of a misery party with Laura, which is fine for a little while, but kind of gets old.

Yeah, I didn't realize that was what happened there either until I looked it up online and read it on a post somewhere. That is pretty interesting... what I still don't understand from that scene is why they pulled out the weapons on each other (I know that may sound crazy - I've watched the movie enough times to where I should better be able to understand this) - Bobby said the coke was baby laxative after he shot the deputy, I believe. Was the deputy actually conducting a drug bust or was he involved in the drug peddling? If he wasn't going to arrest them, why did he pull a gun? If he was going to arrest them, wouldn't Twin Peaks be a little out of his jurisdiction? I'm just not sure how all of this works or what was meant by that scene. Can anyone clarify?
