Gordon Cole is a good lookin guy. My dentist back east looked and talked like DL and he was hip to David Lynch. The Dentist mentioned Mulholland Drive when I told him of the resemblence to a younger DL and he appreciated the comment. What a great dentist he was =so cool and relaxed and smart. He would play cool jazz music.  I miss you Dr. Chase !!

I'm always surprised Roger Ebert doesn't like more Lynch films, considering their shared boob fetish. But then, his favorite one is Mulholland Dr.

The breasts that have been in Lynch's movies in no way rival those in Russ Myers' movies.
And even then it would be a pretty lame reason to like a movie.

Exploring your fetishes is the only reason to write a movie.

Let's not confused fetish with fondness.

For example, you can't fetishize breasts. Breasts are a secondary sex characteristic. You can't fetishize genitals either (big, hairy, whatever you're into.) A fetish, as it's etymolgical origin suggests, gives a quality to an object that does not, by nature, possess such a quality.

Getting hot at the idea of a sexually attractive woman smoking, for example, is not a fetish. It's the woman, the sucking lips, and/or her attitude when she's doing it (eg. bored, superior, tragic etc.)

The non-sexual thing also has to be a consistent sexual trigger. So if one time DL got a boner thinking about a severed ear, it doesn't mean he has a severed ear fetish.

One might assume that neat lamps arouse DL, but he just might like them a lot, just like stamp and baseball card hobbyists don't think of their collections as pornography. (Unless they're freaks.)

Just in case that's me you're replying to, I was not talking about sexual fetishes, just any type of obsession.

Sorry, it bugs me a little when people misuse the word. It's either 'fetish,' as in a good luck charm (which is archaic and only used in academic discussions with anthropolgists and historians,) or 'fetish' as in something you really really like (the colloquialism.) It loses it's abnormal/deviant/perverse edge when it's used lightly.

Especially discussing art; it's good to separate what you think the artist's real (sexual) fetishes could be versus (nonsexual) tropes, motifs, and other style signatures. Especially with Lynch. There are so many, and so many ways to categorize them.

Honestly, I don't think the t&a in Lynch's work are especially sexually loaded. I think he loads them with other emotions that come with nakedness and, in general, he's selective about it. (Uhhhm, except Emily's. I think that was just for fun.)

I am shocked that a fetish model would have this stance. Very shocked.

I like to think when I model latex and pantyhose and extreme heels, the discerning eye only sees the latex and the pantyhose and the extreme heels. I am merely a conduit.

 CAUTION CAUTION - EGO ALERT!

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

That was "a funny," j. **insecurity alert**

Anyhoo, since we're on the subject. I'd say Lynch has a panty fetish. Or else he pretends to.

I also think he eroticises certain things, like blood on the mouth (WAH, FWWM.)

Using the word "fetish" lightly is my way of working through my insecurities about my own fetishes.

But before this gets too Livejournal-y... I do understand that fetishes and any other kind of obsession are frequently expressed in a director's work, same as a favorite painting or piece of literature will also influence the way they shoot. What's "lame" is when it's obvious that we're looking at something inserted at odd angles to the story/mood so the man behind the camera gets a cheap thrill.

Which, for the record, I don't think Lynch does. Even if he particularly got off on the sight of saddle shoes, those shots of Audrey's feet still helped set the tone of the pilot.

This doesn't deserve it's own thread, but look- it's another IE hooker, actually acting in something (Boys & Girls Guide to Getting Down)

http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?&next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DGacCRXaWpak%26feature%3Drelated

EDIT: Come on, guys- watch it! It's the snotty blonde faux hawk girl. And it's funny.

Here's another clip of Masuimi Max and Kristen Kerr (yet more IE hookers) in a terrible, unwatchable film called Devil's Muse.

thanks for the link angel, i enjoyed it. im assuming thats a small portion of a larger film. or is it an ongoing serial of shorts? and i dont know what these guys on the board are thinking(and yes ive come to terms with the fake boob neurosis thing i expressing earlier. thank you for being devils advocate)
but kat turner's tatoos are wonderful. ive had a bit of a crush on her every since IE first came out.
her temple is far from ruined.

Hahaha! I wasn't trying to convert you, but I'm glad I did :P

The film is a tongue-in cheek how-to guide to party (in LA.) The same actors reappear in different vignettes.

I didn't know the actress's name, but a Google search turned up a story on youtube where she divulges how she was directed in IE:

nice. thanks for the links. you definitely pointed out my hypocrisy about body modifications. now its just bad boob jobs i have a problem with. ;)  strangely i was just looking up the "my son, my son..." herzog film that is being executive produced by lynch, and very strangely saw that herzog is credited as a creative consultant on "devils muse". what the frig?
i read an interview on the suicidegirls website awhile back with genesis p-orridge where hes talking about his own modification: "It's really through this process that becomes apparent how the human body is just raw material, or as Lady Jaye would say, "a cheap suitcase!""
btw: there's an interview with your dream guy crispin glover, in case you havent seen it: http://suicidegirls.com/interviews/Crispin+Hellion+Glover%3A+It+Is+Fine%21+Everything+Is+Fine/

Still haven't seen those Glover, films, dammit. Where's the DVD @?!

I suspected that scene was improvised. She seems to be mocking the secrecy of the shoot... think she's drunk?

a little tipsy id say. clint looks two sheet to the wind.
as far as the "IT" trilogy, last time i saw glover he said he plans to never release it on DVD.
he only wants to tour with it, as well as doing his big slide show. i assume he's working on "IT IS MINE" now, though he's still touring with the first two films. maybe once hes finished with the trilogy he'll change his mind. but i dont know, apparently he makes more money by touring than if he released them commercially. i cant fault him for that.

Can you blame either of them? They have a lot to offer one other. Sure, it looks weird, but I'm sure they're both very proud of their catch.
