I've read the scripts. Those missing scenes are gold. I can see them in my head, of course, but I'm no professional.  If it was 5 second donut shop scenes, I would still be amused- hardly disappointed.

They would fuck up the flow of the film if added in, I agree.  FWWM is already perfection.  But those scenes were done. Standing alone, I'm certain they would be perfect in their own right.  I've never really expected to see them, but I'm willing to wait as long as it takes.

I'm sure there's scenes filmed that weren't in the script either... after all the script doesn't mention angels, which turn out to be a huge part of the film. And I disagree that the TP community will be pleased with just anything, as shown by the complete lack of interest in the deleted scenes on the Gold Box set.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Well, those scenes are different. Jerry and Heba, as fun as they are, isn't really what people had in mind, I suspect. As for the Sylvia, Audrey, Johnny and Jacoby scene, I thought that was really interesting and a real treat. I'm not expecting my mind to be blown when Ed says the "E" on the fuel gauge really stands for Ed's Gas Farm either. Grace Zabriskie and Sheryl Lee speaking Norwegian, on the other hand...

On the subject of unscripted scenes, Dell Mibbler appears in the film in a scene with Pete Martell. There's also a scene with Norma and Ed. There's probably more.

Deleted scenes with Norma will be worth the price alone. Where do I sign the petition?

Hmm, I don't think New Line cares about these petitions at all since they totally ignored the petition to rename The Two Towers. 9/11, never forget.

It doesn't necessarily mean they ignored it. Perhaps they considered it and thought better of it. Can someone give me a reason why they should have changed the name? I'm not being contrary I just genuinely don't see the argument.

Missing characters, check. Rights issues, check. MK2, check. Petitions, check. Cynicism and despair, check. So that's the deleted scenes discussion done with for another year then?

Let's meet back here twelve months hence to continue with our musings on the insurmountable hell of editing and colour correcting an hours worth of deleted scenes...

That reminds me that it's been a while since we haven't talked about James' forehead... That topic used to be hot years ago in the Gazette... Let's talk about it NOW!

And what about the evil FWWM Coop who says "Don't take the ring, Laura"? The one whose smile briefly disappears at the end, clearly meaning that he's evil, devilish, BOBish, etc...

Mode sarcasm off now, but I want to say the obvious: this deleted scenes talk is tiresome to me too, but it won't stop until those scenes are finally available (remember those "We want season 2 in DVD" threads?); it's understandable that the topic comes back to life often... I really have no problems with that...

If you folks are so jaded about it, there's a solution that's at once bafflingly simple and effective: don't visit threads like these. I'm confident you can think of more useful things to do.

Right?

It's called gallows humour darling. I've spent the last God knows how many years writing this kind of thread and who rattled your cage anyway? You only joined the board three months ago! Not only does your post adds absolutely nothing to the discussion (pot, kettle, black) but the posts you're bitching about are long-term, battle weary Peakie humour. Did that not occur to you before you made a total **** of yourself? I like the people on the board. I like Twin Peaks. I like David Lynch. I don't write mean spirited posts attacking people for no reason! I can safely say that however much you think you want those deleted scenes I want them 50,000 times more. If I didn't laugh I'd cry.

Can't you find a nice Buffy the Vampire Slayer board to join instead?

37 posts in under a month? Have you never heard of quality control?! At no point have I been uncool. In fact I'd say that under the circumstances I did well to resist such comments as I assume Sergeant Stupid was taken. I'm one of the most obsessive Fire Walk With Me fans you could ever hope/hope not* to meet and if I have to start writing things like 'lol' and 'hehe' after comments just to indicate the presence of humour I shall go mad with despair. Suffice to say you missed the point completely in your indecent haste to make me look like a **** but I'm fine with that. Go in peace my child... etc. etc.

You're not used to the feeling that you are right, are you? You sure can't seem to handle it.

It was a misunderstanding. On a messageboard. It happens. I didn't spread nude photos of your mom around. Relax, man.

... erm, anyhow. I wouldn't be surprised if the wait is to hold out to the television series 20th anniversary in 2010 to finally deliver on the deleted scenes. They're certainly the last of anything of worth to be released in related to TP anyhow, (and I firmly believe the Gold Set is the best we'll ever get and rightfully so - it's an incredible package).

I think there's a big difference between the release of season 2 (and the pilot), which comprises the majority of the series, and the release of a few deleted scenes. The former was worth fighting for. The latter does not seem to me to be worth the same amount of effort.

The problem with that theory is the deleted scenes are unreleased for financial reasons. Both New Line and MK2 were unable to come to an agreement that would allow David Lynch to edit the footage for release. As I understand it DL has to secure financial backing before he can even start work on the deleted scenes. This is a problem that's existed in one form or another for as long as the film itself. Evem before DVD there was talk of a 'directors cut' of FWWM on VHS or laserdisc so one sixteen year wait later I'd be very pleasantly surprised if New Line gave the deleted scenes the green-light now just because the series is approaching its 20th anniversary. That leaves roughly two years for New Line to have a sudden change of heart and throw some money at DL, who'll need to drop everything to edit and colour correct the footage ready for release. It's a very big ask. People have been sainted by the Catholic church for performing lesser miracles!

I'm starting to think the only way we'll ever see the deleted scenes is if the film rights are sold to a company like Criterion, that specialises in releasing (important) cult films with limited appeal. I'd hoped something would come of Charles de Lauzirika's mention of a FWWM special edition - not only to get my hands on the deleted scenes but because the Blade Runner set he put together is amazing.

Keep in mind that New Line no longer exists. It was bought by Time/Warner and absorbed into Warner Bros., and Warner did nothing with TP when they had the pilot rights.

That's a very good point John. The saga of the deleted scenes just goes from bad to worse! I thought New Line had been sold off at some point but because Warner are still releasing films as New Line I assumed I must have imagined it.

I'm about ready to give up any hope of ever seeing the deleted scenes. Sixteen years of rumours and allusions are starting to take their toll on my mental health!
