This is a fun activity: The Randomly Generated Album Game. 1. Click here. The title of the article is the name of your band. 2. Now go here. The last four words of the very last quote on the page is your album title. Photoshop Bonus: Click here. The third picture is your album cover. Add 'em all together, and you're ready to take on the dog-eat-dog world of campus radio stations and musical obscurity. Here're some to start off:
Crocodile Dentist wishes he was Sufjan Stevens. After starting out in coffee shops and small college gigs, Raphael (born Ralph) Bove brings his patented mix of acoustic guitar noodling and long, sustained synth lines to the recording studio for the first time.
TAYK (stands for Total Audio Yank Kock, which tells you why they opted for the acronym) is an eclectic band that can best be described as nerdcore.

I was going to post "countdown till JVSCant comes in here and says 'I want to start a band called something found in this thread'". But alas I was too late... also wrong.

Ambient electronica with a political bent. How? I'd like to know, too.

It's too frustrating. I have two album covers that I cannot transfer over here. They're from my two favorite new bands -- Aerial Lift and Iberian Shrew! I pulled the image onto a Word file and used their WordArt to apply text. Are you guys all using PhotoShop? Then what happens? These bands are really cool and they deserve to be outed on the Gazette. Susan PS On my last try I got... Pamela Des Barres "Remains a fool forever."
This may be the real thing.

I would buy some of these albums if they were in the dollar bin.
Nature sounds and Spanish guitar. Makes a killing at massage parlors and spas.

I love this thread. nuart, I think the real Pamela des Barres might have a problem with being the source of an indie band name. Especially since she's released music herself.

I like this one. Doesn't seem as crappy as they usually turn out.

The bottom one? I like that one too.
Part electroclash, part New Order clone, while still having both feet planted in pastoral prog rock fandom, you say? Interesting...

Soon after the critics had dismissed them entirely after the disappointing "Even Hour to Hour", Jan Garbarek fans Culverdon Express shocked everyone by making their best album so far, "Obstacles Vanish into Air". Besides sounding like Garbarek and ECM-era Chick Corea, the beautifully controlled guitar feedback sounds abound.

Does the UK have Bath & Body Works? This CD would be sold there. (my first attempt at reflections)

Postmodern folk with an angry, finger-pointing bent. Cooper Smeaton likes Sonic Youth a lot and used to play bass in noise rock outfits until he found his true calling. "Deity to be Worshipped", his sophomore effort, was mixed by Jim O'Rourke.

Some art school punks formed Handy Man in 1999 and released this album in 2005. (Is grayscaling the image and adding a gold frame considered cheating? It just felt right in this case.)

These are all too fabulous!!! Now if someone could drop me a PM if it's complicated or tell me HOW you are doing these, I'd appreciate it. Is it Photo shop? All I have is stinkin' i-Photo. Do I have to get PhotoShop? What about PhotoShop Elements? Is that good enough? I want to make indie band album covers too.

It is for me. You could download GIMP, it's a free image manipulation program.

I use Photoshop 7, which is old but good (the current one is basically Photoshop 10, although the numbering has changed). THE GIMP can do pretty much all of what we're doing here, but the user interface leaves a lot to be desired. Beggars can't be choosers, though; it's extremely good and powerful for a freeware application that has no real competition. Try it out ! (And of course Photoshop can be, ahem, found easily enough if you want to go down that route) edit: I've never used PS Elements, and I have no idea if that's good enough.
