Jazz fusion with a Dirty South kind of feel to it.

I need some more interesting fonts.

Booth, you have left an incomplete canvas man. How are things for you in Scotland ?

When the format war is over with, those guys are gonna wind up with egg on their faces.

Mine also has some barely perceptible text.

Profile Angle, an Australian indie band heavily influenced by The Shins released their "Summer in San Francisco" album in 2004.

I love a lot of these. If my band was called Backup HDDVD I would use an unintelligible typeface too. And "Have to beam, too" is a lovely title.

Did I mention that I love this thread?

Raymond, I don't know what you did to be able to read that text.  I changed the contrast on my screen and still nada. Then I pulled it onto a word file and played with the brightness, color and contrast until I could faintly discern finely outlined lettering across the top and the bottom of the bleachers.

Oh well, maybe that band is appealing to a different demographic -- like people with hummingbird eyes. The artist currently known as "Backup HDDVD" is a sensitive soul who doesn't like to splash his name in neon lights.  I get it.  Acoustic.

I'm just jealous that I don't have PhotoShop.

Gimp -- I went to the download page but then had second thoughts about trying it if it wasn't going to be as good as PhotoShop anyway.

I think I'll pick up a copy of PhotoShop at Staples today and fiddle around with it. Everyone tells me, "It has a steep learning curve" and that turns me away. Maybe they're lying.

But then, in the same way I finally conquered 9th grade Algebra, I say to myself, "Stupider people than you have figured it out." That usually helps me problem solve.

Keep those new designs coming in!

Susan

A steep price, yes. But as far as learning... you just have to play with it.

You can easily learn some Photoshop basics in little time. First it's about the principles of the thing. It  also really depends on what you want to do with it. For instance, I'm pretty good at preparing photos for professional printing (brightness/contrast adjustments, colour profiles, filters like Unsharp Mask and other things), but I suck at photo manipulation. Manipulating that golden frame above took me way too much time. Very few people learn to use the whole thing. A cool thing about learning Photoshop is that you learn a lot of InDesign and Illustrator in the process.

Download it. Try before you buy. Technically illegal (in the US, I think; not in Norway), but if your conscience is clean that's what counts.

I'm green with envy! Can you do that the other way around or maybe just a Hindu split god/goddess with Hill-George split down the middle?

Okay, so I made a partial move.  I pre-ordered Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac.  It'll be out in mid-March.  I think it's got enough stuff that goes beyond i-Photo.  With a 10% discount and free shipping, it cost $87 with tax included.

Hope I like it.

Aaaargh!

The print-speak and colour profile biz sure isn't very much fun. I'm learning manipulation step by step, though. One day I'll join in. The times I've tried I have a lot of fun doing it.

Now THAT is disturbing! I blame you personally for any sleep deprivation I may have to endure the coming nights.

Gotta love Antoni Gaudi. In the background on the left is La Sagrada Familia, and in the foreground is part of Park Güell (inside looking out).

Um... I got nothing on the genre (except that the cover artist really liked REM's New Adventures in Hi-Fi). Any guesses?

LogicHat, that's definitely Neo-shoegaze. But they LOVE Yo La Tengo. They're a band, I think, not a solo artist.

I'm no shoegazer, but I think the main period was from 1988-1995 or about then. None of the original bands (such as My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Ride and Slowdive) released much of interest (if anything) after that point, and soon britpop was everywhere. It also depends on whether you count the post-rock or dream pop bands as shoegaze. It's not my thing, so I wouldn't really know. Plus the genres, separate camps and in-crowdy nature of it all makes my head spin. I'm more into pop, rock and roll, punk and anything that actually confronts instead of looking down or another way. Or exclude band members for using the wrong effect pedal (okay, I just made that one up). Hell, I think I prefer Doris Day to shoegaze. Frankie Avalon too. Maybe Otto Lowenstein are better, I don't know. If they sound like Yo La Tengo they could be. I like them a lot.

Named after Stefan Zweig, the Jewish writer and librettist famously defended by a suicidally brave Richard Strauss in 1935?

Slightly more popular in its obscurity.
