Twin Peaks: to be continued online? |

I know the chances are extremely slim to non-existent... but i do recall hearing somewhere if the series was to continue it would be done online. Personally, i'd give just about anything to have the series continued. Damn, if i had the money, i'd pay for it myself! But yeah, what do you think the chances are? Or how could we the people convince Lynch/Frost that it would be a good idea to do so? C'mon people. What happened to the '...see you in 25 years theories?'

Lynch said that IF he was going to do a continuation...it would be online..... HOWEVER, a few years ago, Lynch said it was completely dead....so who knows? Frost said he wanted to do some telemovies of Cooper... AND Kyle expressed interested in playing Cooper again. So again...who knows? Maybe we have to wait for the 25 year mark....again who knows?

If it happens (a big if), my guess is that an online sequel would not be like the costly FWWM film or the broadcast TV series. It would have to be something much simpler, I think -- maybe just some Red Room sequences with the older Cooper and one or two other characters. ("See you in 25 years")
The question is, Where have you gone?

Writers' strike notwithstanding, if Lynch, Frost, and Maclachlan went to any network tomorrow -- even ABC -- and said "we want to do some more Twin Peaks", the first question from the network would be "how many squidillion dollars would you like us to give you?"

I honestly don't think the people who want David Lynch to return to Twin Peaks would be satisfied with the results. Partly because it's just human nature but also because Twin Peaks was made such a long time ago and DL has moved on to other things. People assume it would make things clearer and tie up the loose ends but everyone assumed the same thing about Fire Walk With Me. It sounds petty but the Gold box packaging made me more jumpy than usual about a continuation of Twin Peaks. I'm probably an even bigger fan of David Lynch than I am Twin Peaks (which is why Fire Walk Wih Me is perfect IMHO) but Twin Peaks wasn't just about David Lynch, and nor should it be. The Mark Frost interviews on the DVD box sets are godly. They're informative, to the point and humble. The Slice of Lynch featurette on the other hand was more about a 'concept' than it was Twin Peaks and I can't remember anything that was said in it, besides the mention of Mark Frost. I don't think DL is motivated by ego but to successfully return to Twin Peaks he'd need to be restrained and prepared to compromise. It'd also need a strong storyline. I don't need David Lynch films to make narrative sense to love them but Twin Peaks isn't a David Lynch film. I've loved Fire Walk With Me since it was released and it was a trauma to see the hostile reaction kill off the possibility of sequels. After that fiasco I know better than to assume the people who want Twin Peaks to continue would stand by it if it wasn't what they were expecting. They'd move on, start campagning for a continuation of Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Dynasty... Don't take it any further than that. There's nothin' good about it.

I'm sure some people would not really be into it. Or probably even get annoyed by it. That's Lynch really. And I expect no further answers as well. I honestly feel I have all the answers I need. And enough circumstance to generate further speculation for a long time. That being said, I WANT ANOTHER SERIES NOW! I actually liked the Lynch/Frost combination where it seemed Lynch's influence wasn't saturating. I would like both of them to be involved. ...If it were to happen of course.

I don't know if TP was just a one-off thing for Lynch and Frost but I would prefer they got together and tried to do someting new as I'm not sure how successful revisiting TP would be.

I think that Twin Peaks had the kind of plot that got more and more complex as it went along. Instead of the plot disentangling, it got more and more tangled! For every question that was answered, two more were raised. For every mystery that was solved, three more came floating along. When people thought FWWM would tie up the loose ends of ep. 29, they got more mysterious images: Lil the dancer, the blue rose, garmonbozia, Judy, Philip Jeffries, frozen images on a CCTV screen, the convenience store, Carl Rodd who has "already gone places", etc, etc... The list is endless! I bet if they ever make another Twin Peaks film or TV programme, it will clear up a few questions, but introduce dozens of new mysteries!

I didn't know Frost did On the Air with Lynch. Whenever I've seen clips of that it looked terrible. There are some great comic touches in Lynch films and Twin Peaks but I don't think he should have ever have done a pure comedy (if that is definitely what On The Air was), although it is easy to say in hindsight.

I have extreme doubts that twin peaks will be continued by lynch. Furthermore, I don't want him to continue it. It's good as it is. It wouldn't be the same.

I took that to refer to the bit where Cooper sees himself on the security camera. My feeling is that everything that happens in that scene, from that impossible security camera trick onwards, is note for note what happened in Cooper's dream, which is why he grows increasingly alarmed. ("I know, Coop!") But then, I recently fell in love with the idea that the entire opening segment of the film is a dream of Cooper's, which makes thinking about this scene doubly weird....

By "frozen images on a CCTV screen", I meant the scene at the FBI office in Philadelphia, where Cooper keeps looking at the CCTV, and eventually, his image is still there even though he has moved away from the camera, and then the long lost Philip Jeffries walks in. I've never understood why this happens. It's all very mysterious... Perhaps this is something to do with the idea of Cooper "seeing his own Doppelganger", like in ep. 29.

I think you're probably right, PopolVuh. That sounds a much more convincing interpretation of the scene.

In that EW interview, it just seemed like an off the cuff remark by Lynch about continuing it online. Boy, I wish he would, but I don't think he sounded very serious about it unfortunately. I would love to be wrong. Bring on TP online, FWWM w/ deleted scenes, and More TP music in 2008!!!!!!!!!
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

| QUOTE: There are times, and it pains me to say this because it's like slashing the tires of your favorite dream car, when you have to step back and admire a piece of art that managed to become something amazing despite the circumstances surrounding its creation. Take The Exorcist. It's a movie inspired by a book about a hoax demonic possession. The book was written by a guy named Billy who, if you're ever read his interviews, is a class A village idiot. The movie was directed by another guy named Billy who was of similarly dubious mental fortitude. What resulted from their fifteen wrongs was an amazing right - a thoughtful piece that could scare people, make people think about faith and the supernatural, hell - I've even read essays which identified it as a critique of modern medicine. But all this excellence was by accident. By rights, the Exorcist should have been laughworthy. Twin Peaks isn't like that. Lynch and Frost are certainly not Stupid Billy One and Stupid Billy Two. That having been said, it's been confirmed in countless interviews that they didn't start out with a fully-charted roadmap, and that nobody knew how far any of it was going to go. At least a considerable chunk of the plot was written as they went, with major elements changing or evolving or materializing over the run of the show. Take a look sometime at the early edits of the script for episode 29... several of the more original treatments offered completely new insights into the workings of the world of the Black Lodge. This was definitely a project set in clay, not stone. I think I was most heartbroken, years ago, when Lynch responded to a plethora of fan questions regarding the worky bits of the mythos with something akin to "I'm not sure what it all means... but it means something, and when I figure it out I'll tell you." It's a lot more romantic, at least for me, to assume that every one of those scribbles on the Owl Cave petroglyph was placed meaningfully and intentionally... instead of "Hey, we need a cryptic ancient cave painting by Tuesday. Whip something up and make sure to include these two things in there. Have a field day with the rest." Point being, and I think many of the readers here will resonate with me on this: what ended up coming out of the creative process on Twin Peaks was a powerful, soul-shaking thing. Reading that, it sounds over-dramatic, but having just wrapped up a rewatching of the gold box plus FWWM, I can state very honestly that regardless of how tightly or loosely it was scripted, there were TRUTHS in that series. Important questions about what it means to be human, and maybe a few about whether or not there are things out there that aren't human. The art was greater than the process, and the finished piece (left perfectly unfinished) was something magnificent. What happened to Cooper? What happened to Laura? What are these lodges? I know it sounds trite, but I think it's all in there. I think all the big questions are answered artfully. Now, the natural urge is to want more. To bang the silverware angrily on the tabletop until Mom brings out another bowl of creamed corn. But I think more could only ruin what we've already consumed. How do you add another season to something that's perfect? Season three would be an unsightly tumor on one of the leanest, meanest, sexiest existential examinations ever to cross primetime television. I live 40 minutes from Snoqualmie Falls, and make it a regular stop. I eat lunch at Twede's Cafe (The RR) every time. Hell, I'm reading and posting to a board like this, right? I'm just as hungry for more as anyone. But I'm happy to recognize that I'd rather have that hunger as evidence of powerful art than risk being stuffed full of thinned-down filler. So goodnight, Twin Peaks. I'm sure I'll be out to check on the waterfall, the lodge, and the cheeseburger platter sometime soon. |
good topic,but not completely right.
I think fans deserve some type of continuation (tv series or film, book orsome new diary...) The key of success of twin peaks is character of agent cooper.Every scene with him is amazing. I think fans deserve to know: -what did happen with Agent Cooper? -What did happen with white lodge? -Who is Bob?he isn't only a bad spirit,he is the "boss" of black lodge. what is with nature forces which are stronger than bob? I think there are lot of space for investigation of twin peaks misteries.I want a new book more than tv series or film
