I have just watched the second season properly, on dvd for the first time...I was sort of dreading its apparently terrible storylines etc...however, I am happy to say that I greatly enjoed it! It wasn't nearly as cheesy or terrible as many fans make it out to be! I think that it's generally under rated!

I don't know how anyone can call themselves a "fan" if they generally pan the second season, as the second season is, in fact, about 75% of the series.  I think the cheesey parts are necessary evils on any show like this, as they offset the sinister sections.

Nah, well I'm sure that most people dislike only the parts from Ep.17 on... (after Leland's death for those who have numeration problems ;-)).

That's why I always found the term "Season 2" very misguiding. Technically Eps. 8-29 are season 2 but in fact these are two different parts of the series: Eps. 8-16, being perhaps THE BEST part of the series (my favourite epiosdes definitely are there, even if Season 1 was more artistically consistent and succesful as a whole) - and Eps. 17-28, being quite obviously the worst part of the series.

Yet... I still like it very much, so:

Yes, BOB1... Season 2 may begin in ep.8, but *MY* season 2 begins in ep.17 after Coop says "I'm really gonna miss this place"...

Someone posted the episode breakdowns for the Australian release, which is in four "seasons".  I can't recall what it was, but I remember thinking at the time that it was a good way to split the story up...

I recently watched the second season as well, and it was better than I remembered. I did like it originally, but still was annoyed by some of the plots. But they didn't bother me as much now. Maybe I was expecting worse, since it was a while since I'd seen it.

In some ways if the show was gonna end after Ep29 I would have rathered that it just ended after Ep16 (and a bit of tying up loose ends as well of course)

Sounds like you guys are wanting to throw out the proverbial baby with the bath water.  Sure, little Nicky and Evelyn are some real downsides to "season three" (i.e., a post-Leland Twin Peaks), but there is some great stuff in there too if you can look past them.  Windom Earle comes to mind, and Leo's awakening.  And the Lodge... let's not forget about that last ep.  None of that could have happened if the "third season" was cut.

I like Annie but yeah, the whole bit with little Nicky was shit. James' bit with the blonde woman I thought was alright(was that Evelyn?) but I never liked Windom Earle (I just never found him that complex,  he seemed really stereotypical). I actually despised the last episode when I watched it but now after reading all the stuff that I'm not too stupid to comprehend but too stupid to understand without help I can see that it was a good endning. Having said that I always loved the last few minutes with evil Coop - it was really strange when I watched that because as I watched it I remembered seeing it when I was very young on a Best TV Moments compilation (I'm guessing that's what it was because TP aired when I was only just born) so it had an added resonance for me.

There are some amazing high points to the second series that are arguably as inpired as those of the first.

Personally, I think the second season is really great. There are a few things that aren't so wonderful, but on the whole, it is a good season. Basically, what is does is to expand on the themes and mysteries of Twin Peaks, going into the Black Lodge and White Lodge, and the mystery of BOB's true nature, where he comes from.

I suppose one anomaly of season two is Mike's absence. Does he just go back to being a shoe-salesman? Doesn't he want to help Cooper track down and deal with BOB?

I definitely think it's true that post-Leland's death it's as if we're in 'season 3' territory, but what surprised me (having just watched my lovely new S2 DVDs!) was how valid those episodes still were. I remembered them being really disappointing, but in actuality the only disappointing subplots were Evelyn and Little Nicky (and please don't get me started!)

By the way, this website is my new favourite place ever. Bless you all!!!

What an unusual choice for an avatar likeitsounds, I really like it... I've always loved that small scene and it's rarely mentioned or discussed. "The answer is not here my friend..."

Of my favorite episodes from the series, all but one (ep. 2) are in the second season.

The things I remember most about the series are almost all from season 2. I think season 2 is much better overall than season 1.

If we change things a bit and say 1-16 is season 1 and 17-29 is season 2 then season 1 is better, but only by a little bit. That last episode makes up for a lot of bad subplots.

Thanks, Gordon! One of the things I missed as the second season went on was the presence of Mike. I thought he was absolutely brilliant! Even my boyfriend's a fan, and he hasn't even bothered to watch past Cooper getting shot!

I also love Al Strobel's account of his near-death experience, on the TP season 1 DVD. Good God...

It's been years since I lwatched Twin Peaks in order, from start to finish, and one of the things that's really struck me this time around is how abruptly the series seems to change direction and Laura's murderer's 'caught'. You can practically hearing the ABC executives breathing down the necks of the writers.

Things made sense this time round that haven't in the past, like why Mrs Tremond disappears and is replaced by a different, younger Mrs Tremond and how the mill passes from Josie, to Ben, to Catherine.

I also remembered how much I love Lucy's sister Gwen.

I ran from the noise and the silence, from the traffic on the streets

That's something I never understood - Why was Mrs. Tremond replaced with a younger, differen Mrs. Tremond - They certainly don't look anything like each other so she's not a younger version of the older one. I'd love to see your answer.

Also, what's with the two last names - Tremond/Chalfont ?

I don't mind the Annie storyline so much - it's Little Nicky and Eveline who come in for the most criticism. I've watched every ep of Twin Peaks once a year since it was first aired, so I'd consider myself a fan......but I'm not gonna give praise where it simply isn't due!

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

I don't know if it was intentional on the writers' parts, but it strikes me that the Red Room denizens have compliments/mirrors in the real world.  BOB has Leland, the Little Man has Gerard, Laura has Maddy, the Giant has the Old Bellhop, the male singer in the Red Room has the Roadhouse song bird, Mrs. Tremond has the Log Lady or young Mrs. Tremond, and her grandson reminded me at times of the mischievous Horne brothers.

No, it was not at all a good way to split the story up. "Season Three" opened with episode 14, which of course would be a perfect way to end "season two".

Yes. The first 7 episodes of season 2 are a good compliment to season 1 - but episodes 8 and 9 feel very rushed and don't fit in seamlessly with the rest and then "season 3" starts in episode 10 - the only time in the series where there's a gap in the time line (two days missing).

Four long evenings of Twin Peaks:

Pilot + 1-7
Starting at the start, going through the original first season.

8-16
From the beginning of the second season to the end of the Who Killed Laura storyline.

17-23
From "Three Days Later" until Josie's death.

24-29 + FWWM
The last section of the show, followed by the se/prequel.

That could work...
