Ed has been in love with Norma for 20 years. Ben has been with Eileen 20 years ago. Gordon has had the hearing problem for 20 years. Weird coinscience, huh? Has something else happened 20 years ago?

The last conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn perhaps

Miss Twin Peaks has its 20th anniversary, also. I can't think of others right now, but I'm sure there are more.

So 20 years ago would be 1969, the year Project Blue Book was disbanded: this web page has some excellent info and you can search easily: http://www.twinpeaks.org/archives/references/timeline

Isn't there roughly 20 years between beginning Eraserhead and Twin Peaks as well? I'm sure it's not significant however :)

If Eraserhead were released in 1969 there would have been mass riots or somethin' I show a release date of 1977.

And from the script of Episode 28... Which leads to more credence of the Windom possessed theory (although I believe he is possessed by some other entity, not BOB) EARLE Dear heart. You are, if nothing else, consistent. As you have no doubt realized, our little game of four- dimmensional chess has concluded. And once, dear, dim, Dale - you have left your Queen unprotected. (a manic giggle) Forgive me. I amuse myself. You see, twenty years ago I made a promise. And tonight, I keep it ... in the Black Lodge. (whispered, antic) Farewell. I must be going.

Well, for me, the script is not canon. Only the footage that was shot is. All interpretations should only be from what was shot and released in the original broadcast.

I disagree with that. Sometimes the makers are forced to drop some things out. That doesn't have to mean that the idea behind everything couldn't be found from the script. That's like mega-multi-hyper-layered storytelling :)

And I agree with that.
Especially since Lynch was notorious for changing scripts on the fly, much to the chagrin of Peyton and Engels.

Yeah, but if Lynch had anything to say about it, he'd say "What wasn't shot doesn't count." He's a staunch believer in the editing process. (There's reasons things are cut.)

Umm yeah, there are reasons, such as having to trim the episode shorter to make it fit to the tv format. Sometimes they have to shorten some of the dialogue right on the spot so that the episode would not become too long.
And by the way, Lynch has said that he knows that Laura wrote "the good Dale is in the Lodge and he can't leave" to her diary. Now, that wasn't shot but yet it exists in the world of Twin Peaks. And that's something you can find out only by reading the book Lynch on Lynch. Also, Lynch has said that it isn't the "Good Dale" who is possessed by Bob but it's the Doppelganger Dale. That too was something that was never shot but yet Lynch has said how it really is (again, this is in the book Lynch on Lynch). So, I heavily disagree with you on that "what wasn't shot doesn't count" as I'd say Lynch wouldn't say that. Or if he would, he would be contradicting himself (although he already did one contradiction with INLAND EMPIRE as he once said that he will never shoot a movie in digital format :D )

I consider valid what is in the script if it doesn't contradict what we see on-screen... The same is applied to the published diary, Access Guide and other books...

Rami , I don't understand your second paragraph. In FWWM, Annie tells Laura "The good Dale is in the lodge and he can't leave. Write it in your diary". You don't have to read a book - just see the movie.

Of course, I'm an extremist in that I don't think even the director's stated opinions on one of his own movies should even be taken into account unless it's to study the thought processes behind the creation of the movie (the meta-movie) as opposed to the movie itself. For me, all the information that matters about a movie is what's on the film - _that_ is the work of art. Study of the meta movie is another subject entirely. I noticed a long well thought out post in this forum a few days ago that tries to tackle the meta-movie - I also noticed that no one responded to that post - sorry to the person who posted it. I'm not that interested in that kind of study - at least at this time.

The point was that Laura writing that to her diary was never filmed. We can't be automatically sure that she did write it by just watching the movie. But when David confirmes that in the book, we can be sure about it.
I know that not everything has to be filmed. Laura could leave her home and end up being in Donna's home. We don't have to see her going there because we can see the beginning and the end of that walk. But when it comes to a scene where someone tells someone else to write something but the writing hasn't been filmed and there is absolutely no hint that it would've been written, we can't automatically suggest that the quote was written. Actually, the total absence of any kind of visual (seeing Laura writing or seing it written) or auditive (hearing someone talk about that writing) proof of her writing it we have more proof to say that she didn't end up writing it. But when we hear from the creator himself that she did write it, then we have more proof for the writing to exist.

I find Twin Peaks being more that just a tv series, a movie and some books. I find Twin Peaks being a multi-leveled story that's been told to us in a style that goes way beyond the normal storytelling. It's like the ultimate puzzle that can be solved by picking up things here and there.

The scripts should be thought of as blue prints. They provide valuable insight into the story development process. That being said, of course there are omissions due to time contraints or it is determined that a scene does not advance the story.
In particular, the script of episode 29 presents a drastically different impression on the occurances within the Black Lodge and I would certainly recommend to anyone who hasn't read it to take a look. Interesting stuff.

Actually I said "beginning" Eraserhead. not finishing it. Anyway, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously :)
