what is the explanation on how windom earle 'becomes' the log lady to steal petes truck and kidnap annie. i mean, obviously he's good at disguises, but i doubt that good. theres only on explanation i can think of, but it doesnt work out too well. windom earle speaks through sarah palmer to cooper to tell him hes in the black lodge, so obviously when hes in there he has some kind of possessive power. but he wasnt in the lodge when he got annie cuz hes the one who brings her in there. perhaps he went in the lodge, possessed the log lady, then returned?? but hes not from the black lodge, hes human, how can he possess? you see, ive confused myself, please help, haha.

Just accept the fact that some things will never be answered - just like in real life!

I always owed Windom speaking through Sarah to her psychic power manifesting, as it did early in the series with the visions. But I only speak for myself. Windom does not become the Log Lady. A. They're wearing different dresses/glasses B. Bobby sees them at the same time C. Kenneth Welsh looks very little like Catherine Coulson.

okay okay, but then why does the 'Log Lady' hit Bobby? kidnap Annie? and steal Pete's truck? we obviously know that Windom at least kidnaps Annie and steals the truck, and although they look little alike, was it Windom disguised? as for her hitting Bobby, it couldve been Windom in disguise, or maybe the real Log Lady was annoyed by him. lord knows i would have hit him just for fun, haha.

I think it's safe to say that Earle is in disguise and that there is no supernatural influence going on there. But I wonder what Bob will have to say about that.... :)

I never actually assumed that it was Earle speaking through Sarah, although I guess that makes sense. I never really pictured Earle having all that much power in the Lodge, to the point where he could even direct outside human forces from within it. (I'm part of the camp that believes his prominence in the final episode is owed to the fact that Bob knew it was the way to break down Cooper.) I always figured it was more likely Bob, the LMFAP, or one of the permanent Lodge inhabitants delivering that message to Briggs.

if you watch the scene with sarah and major briggs with closed caption on, when sarah speaks it says 'Voice of Windom Earle'

kidicarus: Interesting. I guess I'd just never considered it before, but now that I think of it, I think it makes the most sense for it to be Earle. And now I guess you've proven it! =)

And hopefully this puts to rest the idea by some that Sarah says "I'm in the black lodge with Windom Earle." Probably not, though. :)

All you really have to do is to actually watch the episode to see that it is just Windom Earle disguised as the log lady. There are many mysteries involving possessing spirits in Twin Peaks, but this isn't one of them. -- Vesa 'wtw' Ahola wtw@iki.fi.REMOVE Strike any user when ready.

If that was indeed Earle speaking through Sarah... perhaps he was deliberately luring the Major to the Lodge in order to destroy him like Dale, by means of the percieved power Earle thought he had when he entered the Lodge? Or maybe Windom realised he was in way over his head and realised he needed Briggs' assistance to escape Bob and the Black Lodge itself? (Obviously, before Bob destroyed him).

A better question would be why did Mike end up with the bandaged head when it was Bobby would got log-whacked?

A bigger issue always struck me with regards to certain characters' attitudes in the series finale, why does no-one - particularly Norma or Shelley - seem worried about Annie after Earle kidnapped her, or even mention her?!

I think they're a little too preoccupied with Nadine's state in their one scene after that happens... I mean with all that's going on in that episode who has time to sit around and worry?
That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

I remember hearing Mike saying to Nadine something about being hit by a tree in the middle of the confusion, probably one of the fake trees from Miss Twin Peaks stage.
He said something like "God Nadine, I was so worried...seeing that sand bag hit you I just knew I would do anything for you. And then the tree hit me..."

"You know, Agent Desmond, I figure this whole office, furniture included, is worth 27,000 dollars"

I think they forgot about Windom hitting Bobby...:) In the last episode we see Bobby at RR making plans for the future with Shelly, and there's not even a bruise on his forehead(or any bandage).Jeez,I thought he would probably not survive after such a stroke..
Beware of BOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

I think it was a setup for the next subplot - something to do with Mike and Bobby being symbiotic or something. We see Bobby get hit by "the tree" but then we see Mike is hurt. It's like they switched bodies or somethin'

IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE ALL HE DID WAS PUT ON A WIG AND CARRY A LOG. HE STILL LOOKS LIKE WINDOM EARL WEARING A WIG.

Our subtitles say "I'm in the black lodge with Dale Cooper" Which one is correct? Is it Windom Earle or Dale Cooper? btw i hear it Dale Cooper..

I don't think they forgot about Bobby being hit... It's just one of the many details related to the "upside down" quality of the last episode, how subplots that looked finished start again, how dialogues from the Pilot are repeated or how some characters behave completely unlike them... I'm thinking in Nadine recovering, Doc Hayward going Hannibal Lecter, Heidi's scene, Sylvia's 'resurrection', etc. Mike being the one hurt when we saw Bobby getting hit is another example, the notion of Bobs and Mikes everywhere (BOB and Mike, Lydecker, Philip MICHAEL Gerard, Mike and Bobby), how they're connected, etc. and switch that, all in a purely artistical level. That's what makes ep.29 such an awesome episode... FWWM continued with that idea somehow...

It's totally "Dale Cooper." Some people, back when there were no subtitles for the scene (due to the crumby VHS taped versions we had), thought they heard "Windom Earle," which makes no sense. :)
Now that the discs are out and "Dale Cooper" appears in the subs, hopefully this theory will die.
