| QUOTE: A related question, who wrote Let's Rock on the windshield? The Tremonds/Chalfonts because they knew that Cooper was coming and they wanted him to make a connection between his "dream" (one year into the future) about Laura and Teresa's murder? |
Possibly a clue to tell Cooper to use his rocks'n'bottles deduction techniques to help solve the murder?

The candles clip occurs in more than just the european pilot... not sure where, but I'm sure it's in another location.

The mound of dirt with the necklace and candles is found in the train car in the pilot. The european pilot also shows Bob in the basement of the hospital crouching by a circle of candles which are blown out after Bob's shot.
I ran from the noise and the silence, from the traffic on the streets

There are no candles found in the traincar. the mound, yes, but no candles. the clip from the euro pilot of the candles going out in the hospital basement is reused for cooper's dream sequence in ep 2. Also... going back to those pictures... it is not just because of the light outside that the walls are that color. you would have to shine a really bringht light on dark brown walls to make them look yellow. also, those two light fixtures dont even remotely look alike. they are totally different.

I think it only occurs in the extended dream sequence in the European 'film' version of the pilot. |
I think I started watching that version on youtube. At least I think it was that. It felt like some awful parody of the show. I mean, they must have used footage that was originally dropped because it was so bad. It was amateur to the extreme.

As for the trailer inside and outside. There could very well be continuity issues in the two scenes. The important thing is, is that scene _intended_ to be in the trailer or in the motel? Wouldn't it make more sense for Leland to meet Teresa in a motel? BTW, is there a TV aerial on top of Teresa's trailer?

Or use a light with a yellowish tint like a lot of outside lights have. You can't get a good enough look at both light fixtures to tell if their different or not, more than likely their not. But this is all besides the point. Point being is that it's not the same room like you pointed out.

About "Let's Rock"... it seems like a sign telling the viewer that Lodge spirits were involved in Desmond's disappearance. In fact if you say it is unconnected to the spirits, you could easily make the conclusion that Desmond was in fact, murdered by the deputy. There wouldn't really be anything to contradict that. So I really can't agree to this vandalism theory.
That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

well there's not much to contradict anything where the windshield is concerned, so it could have been written by oscar the grouch for that matter. one other thing about the murder scene... it does make sense that teresa and leland would meet in a hotel room... but teresa IS wearing her "pink waitress uniform," which i dont think she would wear if they had a planned meeting to hook up. it seems possible that he followed her home and surprised her in her trailer... or lured her into another one. I'm not necessarily sold on the idea that it was done in the chalfont trailer, but i really doubt, given what we are, that it was in teresa's trailer. And Fan... we may not agree on this, but that light fixture is in NO WAY the same! We're making the same point, so it doesn't matter at all... but all the same, it's totally different. *I* can see it just fine. :)

this bugged me a while: what does the symbol etched on the ring mean? i know it's supposed to be an owl, but what the hell that etching and the owl have to do with the black lodge, except that BOB can inhabit owls as a vessel.

Unless Leland wanted to have some "good waitress, bad customer" role playing with her :)

duh, you know what, bluesky? Cause if you've seen season 2, then you know about the owl cave petroglyph and how it is a map to the lodge. And that the petroglyph is in owl cave. And that the owls are used as metaphors and/or vehicles of transport for the lodge spirits in our world. so... duh, you know that? I don't see what your question is otherwise. :)

I think it only occurs in the extended dream sequence in the European 'film' version of the pilot. | I don't think so: the 12 candles are in the regular episode 2 dream sequence as well - we see them blow out right near the beginning. They refer, of course, to the 12 sycamore trees at Glastonbury Grove

Hmm.. I never thought of that one ThisIsTheGirl. Of course the creators probably created the trees like that as a reference to the candles though...btw does anyone think that the Lil scene in FWWM is connected to the "stitches with the red thread" mentioned by Mike in the European ending. If so his sentence would mean "I know about the drugs"... any thoughts?

I'm not sure the stitches turn out to mean anything. Maybe they intended it to, but it didn't pan out. Is the thread on Lil's dress red? Her dress is definitely red, and Stanley says it's a different color. I can't really tell from the image below though.
As for the candles... I never thought of it before, but I can see a definite link to the 12 trees in the grove. Nice. Also... is that a necklace in the center??!?
BTW, Amanda, I totally leeched those images from your page. Kill me. :)

Could the candles be a way to enter the White Lodge while the grove, the Black Lodge.

Personally, I don't think so - I always just figured that it was part of Coop's dream, a dream which is loaded with various symbols that are gradually explained over the course of the series. They never explicitly make the connection between the 12 candles and the 12 trees, but it seems fairly likely that it's just another parallel, like the way the MFAP's dance parallels Leland's later foray into dance!

The ring may symbolize time repeating in a circle. The events with people seem be pre-destined. Dreams and lodgers guide Coop and Laura on a path only for one fate. The ring is static object passed from one victim to the next in a cycle. Know one can stop BOB.
