i love WAH, really love it, its a great film full of great energy, and a sort of exuberance that isn't in the rest of Lynch's work...but an issue some people may have is structure...is it a good film as a flowing whole, or as demonstrated by this thread, is it instead a series of moments, each memorable but not quite tying together?

I am also a huge WAH fan.  I think a lot of people don't like it as much as his other films, because it doesn't have that same sense of mystery to it, as Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive.  To me , it is still a very Lynch-ish movie.  There are alot of moments in there, which may not have anything to do with the story, but rather just things and people they encounter while on the lam.  As a whole, it is still a spectacular visually exciting piece of cinema, and one of my favs.

Ben:  "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight.  All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest."

Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

I've come really late to all these Top Five Scenes threads, but I can't resist...

1. Sherylin Fenn/Car Wreck. It would have been so easy for this to have come off as pure comedy, but Lynch, Dern, Fenn and Cage (especially Dern and Fenn) really make you feel the pain of watching this poor girl die.

2. Bobby Peru and Lula. this scene is so great because it encapsulates one of the best things about WAH: The way things can turn on a dime, going from funny to horrifying in the wink of an eye.

3. O.O.Spool/Texas Porno/Enter Bobby Peru. Pure Lynch. In a way, it reminds me of the visit to Ben's apartment from Blue Velvet in the way that DL takees all of these disparate elements and weaves them into an unforgettably weird and wonderful tapestry.

4. Cousin Dell. I have nothing to add to this one.

5. The Good Witch. Really the enitire sequence starting with "What do you faggots want?" through Sheryl Lee's cameo (when Sailor blows her a kiss it just about freakin' kills me, it's so funny), "I apologize for referrin' to you fellas as homosexuals" right up to Love Me Tender and the end credits. Great way to end the movie.

Honorable mentions, since they're not really scenes: Opening credits with the striking images of fire and the beautiful Im Abendrot playing. Bobby Peru and his coin. Sailor balancing a radio on his feet. Santos saying "You want me to shoot Sailor...in the brain." The image of Lula placing her hand over Sailor's heart.

I have to add that for a long time, my opinion of Wild At Heart was pretty negative. I think I didn't like it because it wasn't like Lynch's other films, but that is precisely what I have come to appreciate about it over the years. It's not like Lynch's other films...yet it's still unmistakably Lynch. I had a similar reaction to Lost Highway, which is now one of my favorites. Maybe there's hope yet for me and Inland Empire.

"What? Did your life pass before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea..."
