So - welcome to a new thread.

Is Sherilyn Fenn going to win this film?
Or Bobby Peru takes the prize?
Or perhaps the shockingly brutal opening?
Or some episode characters like Grace Zabriskie or Mr Reindeer in the toilet?

I wonder! There is lots to choose from, Wild at Heart is perhaps weaker in the storyline and lacks something more profound but the imaging is fabulous, characters are unforgettable - I am sure there's going to be many many great ideas.

Let's go!

1. Sherilyn dying indeed. Best scene without a doubt.

2. "Say f*ck me". Classic.

3. The almost surreal scene with Sailor, Lula, Peru, Jack Nance talking about a dog, porno texas style,... That's awesome, as is the music there.

4. Farragut's death.

5. The scene where we discover that Bobby and Perdita know each other, how he enters, we see his coin,...

I don't remember if that's in that last scene I mentioned, but I've always liked how Perdita's house is shot, how we first see it and David tells us the house is important and the next establishing shots, very intriguing and disturbing...

The first time I saw that scene of the second appearance of Perdita's place, it was like getting punched in the chest. Even when I wasn't crazy about the film, I had really positive memories of that.

Chris's music on the highway.

The sequence when Sailor protects Lula's honor on the dance floor, then suddenly he has a mic and he's in an Elvis movie.

The entire Dell sequence.

Welcome to Big Tuna.

In no particular order, these are the scenes that come most readily to mind for me.

1. The whole opening sequence. Right there, you know this movie takes no prisoners.

2. Sherilyn's "sticky stuff" death scene.

3. Bobby Peru's "Fuck me" scene.

4. The bank hold-up.

5. The Jack Nance dog story scene.

3 - Car crash scene

4 - Opening scene

5 - Farragut's demise

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Okay, I sped right through the posts without seeing everyone else's choices, but I will check back after I post mine.

1. My number one scene Lynch all time (which as I mentioned before is teetering on a precarious brink because of the Hollywood Boulevard stuff in Inland Empire) but anyway, I love the Sherilyn Fenn scene because it shows in quintessential fashion how Lynch so successfully juxtaposes dark humor and heartbreaking tragedy...a great scene all around.

2, The Execution of Johnny Farragut - "Remember the number, ten"

3. Marietta Fortune, Lipstick and a Desperate Phone Call- Dianne Ladd rocks!!

4. Bobby Peru and Lula Fortune - "Can I use your head"

5. The opening sequence with Sailor laying a righteous smackdown on Booby Ray Lemon is pretty intense...

I love the opening credits for one  And now that I think about it the robbery scene could easily replace the Bobby/Lula scene, Willem is hilarious in that scene..."Those are dummies, dummy." and Wild at Heart contains, let us not forget, Frances Bay's best line ever. "You're not just a pretty face and a f-ing smile. You're here to make Mr. reindeer happy and to show him a good time."

"Every day holds a new beginning and every hour holds the promise of an Invitation to Love."

Does the credits sequence count?  :)

That isn't totally fair; I like the Sherlynn Fenn "Robert" scene pretty well. and I really like the cousin Dell anus-cockroach story.  These have nothing to do with the main plot, though.  Probably why WAH is my least fav Lynch film.

  1. opening beatdown of Bobby Ray

  4. Bobby Preu blows off his head
  5. Lula's cousin Dell - " I'm making my lunch!"

OK, I'm doing this without looking at the others, because this is one of my top faves!  (So I'm a geek)

Opening scene at the theater, where Sailor kills Marietta's hired gun.

Lula taking Sailor his snakeskin jacket after prison and going out to celebrate.

Girl on highway (Sherilyn Fenn) bleeding to death and looking for her purse.

Lula seeing her mother as the Wicked Witch of the West, flying by.

Sailor unconscious and having a vision of Sheryl Lee as Glenda telling him to go back, "Lula loves you, Sailor!"

Oh! Oh, how did I forget Uncle Dell?   I think after Dafoe's "say f*ck me" scene and Fenn's death scene, Crispin's is the standout performance of the film.

1)  When Sailor comes back for Lula and sings love me tender to her right at the end.

2) "Sailor Ripley you get me some music on this radio this instant I mean it!" and dance/sunset sequence that follows.

3) Crash scene/wicked game on the highway (or would they be classed as two different scenes?)

4) Good witch Sheryl

5) Perdita Durango and Sailor.

"watch out for my cousin.."

Wow, this is hard... I know I'm gonna forget something...

1. Sherilyn Fenn's car crash... One of Lynch's greatest scenes ever.

2. The opening... Maybe I'm sick but I find it really funny, how it shocks you so suddenly, and then Sailor lights the cigarette like everything's cool... I love it.

3. The scene where Lula's flipping through radio stations, then tells Sailor to get her some music, they start dancing... that scene is so funny and energetic.

4. The appearance of Glinda at the end... it's so surprising the first time, and brilliant... Sheryl Lee was great as Glinda (or the Good Witch as she's credited... did Lynch forget her name or what?).

5. The Diane Ladd lipstick scene... a terrifying sequence.

I have to add I really love nearly every scene in this movie (excluding the one where Bobby Peru is introduced, and a few with Mr. Reindeer and his associates). Even though they weren't in any of the scenes I listed I think the performances of Harry Dean Stanton and Willem Dafoe are terrific. Though Bobby Peru isn't quite as scary as some other Lynch villains such as Frank Booth and BOB, he's still really creepy... Dafoe plays him like he's a demon. Other parts I love in the movie: the scene just before the car crash where Wicked Game plays (it has a great feel to it, the use of music in this movie is terrific, as always in Lynch films), Farragut's death (I don't really enjoy this one, but I think it's really well done 'cause it's so scary... poor Johnny), and the scene at the end where Peru gets shot (the way he does is hilarious, great and sick physical comedy), and the end credits. This is the movie that made me really like those two actors (Stanton and Dafoe) and want to see more of them.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

For me, it's Lula gazing out into the night and seeing her mother as the witch on the broomstick.  It just perfectly taps into this childhood fear in which adults can (and often do) become the monsters kids experience in books, movies, etc.

I also have to say that Crispin Glover's scenes are deeply disturbing.  If you've ever had a seriously mentally ill family member, this segment comes off as surprisingly true-to-life.  The way Lula relates it, with a mixture of black humor and dread, is very relatable.

Whoa, I'm very surprised that only JVSCant mentioned my favourite scene.

1. "You guys have a lot of the same power E had. Y'all know this one?"

2. Girl bleeding to death looking for her purse.

3. "Y'all take a listen, you'll hear the deep sound comin' down from Bobby Peru."

4. End Credits. One of the best movie endings ever.

5. "Take a bite of peach."

It's full of excellent scenes (breaks my heart to leave Cousin Dell out of the top 5) and I don't understand why it's so underrated, even among Lynch fans. To put Lynch's films in order, I'll go with this one: 1. MD, 2. LH, 3. BV, 4. WAH, 5. FWWM, 6. SS, 7. EH 8. EM, 9. DUNE. Gonna see INLAND EMPIRE next weekend as it premieres here in Finland!

Andreas Halskov! And who's talking about long time??? Veery nice to see you and you're most kindly invited to take part in all the top five threads, I might soon update the results a little.

I'm now ready with my own choices:

1. "say: fuck me" - this scene is not only splendid with acting, mood etc., but it also captures the very essential point Wild at Heart is taking as a story: Bobby Peru is the black angel and no matter how repulsive he is (and his, well, teeth) - he can still attract fascination... the nature of evil...

2. Sherilyn Fenn dying - cinematic brilliance at Lynch's best

3. The ending, ie. everything from Laura Palmer as a good fairy, to "referring to you as homosexuals", to Love Me Tender - I simply LOVE this ending.

4. Texas porno etc., which Andreas described very well:

QUOTE: 1. The scene with John Lurie and O.O. Spool. I love Jack Nance in these strange supporting role, and, indeed, the scene is quite reminiscent of the scene at Ben's place in "Blue Velvet". Also, fat ladies dancing is just pure cinematic genius.

5. The club fight and Sailor singing Love Me - wonderful changes of the mood and better over-the-top than Tarantino has ever managed.

I love this film :-))) I want to see it again!
