They didn't clean mine what a relief...

Probably that's because I still have Ep.8 on a VHS recorded straight from a Russian television with Russian dubbing

I might go as far as saying that I'd rather have the carpet cleaned if only someone would erase that Russian dubbing!!!
(although I wouldn't go so far if we were talking about the European ending ;-))

I think so but I don't remember which version is which... in Europe BOB is there, in USA not? Sorry if I am confusing things.

I suppose there is also another difference like that - wasn't it connected with Sarah's vision of BOB?

It's totally a US vs. Euro thing.

http://www.twinpeaks.org/faqeps.htm#e31

I am not sure why it wouldnt be in an R2 release though.

So... in the foreign versions is he "sculpted" into the rug, or is it a 2D image of him? The former sounds cool. The latter sounds a bit cheeseball.

I have a cap from a Euro TV broadcast and he's just a 2D image that's really distorted.

Check it, those of you with Quicktime:

http://www.davidlynch.de/cannes/vision.mov

If it won't play by clicking, try saving it first.... that worked for me.  And PS... this is probably a German dub, so that would explain why Maddy sounds so weird and her inhales don't match her heaving chest.  :)

Anyway, I never saw this the first few times I watched the series, so it seems weird to me.  I guess if I was used to it, the opposite would be true.  Still though, it's a pretty crappy effect, IMO.

Those who have never seen it without the effect, you can check the US version on YouTube (it's at the very end of this clip, so let it load.  Sorry!)

Hi! My first post on this board :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it so that when they made the series, they didn't have time to create the "BOB in the rug-effect before the episode was aired. But since it took a while for the show to aired in Europe, they had time to put in the effect for the european wievers? I apologise for my bad english.

Or it was there from the beginning and deleted for the american audiance...with the european audiance it kinda doesn't matter, they rarely delete things...especially when it comes to cultural things...(hope u know what i mean...english's not my first language)...

So, Joakim, where are u from?

It's interesting that eps. later Coop says that Maddy saw BOB twice, that's after "Just you and I" and the carpet vision, so cheesy effect or not, Europe or US I guess that was the plan, to put BOB in the rug...

No, I believe Joakim is correct, it was added later. I don't think it was deleted for those sensitive Americans!

It isn't the best of effects, but I'm not really bothered about the technical competence of the shot. It's the way I first saw the scene, so it's just how I picture it in my head. I won't be especially bothered if it isn't there on the DVD though. My favourite BOB appearance (in the TV show) is the one straight after "Just you and I", and that will be the same as ever!

I recently bought an HDD recorder - maybe I should preserve my VHS copies on that for posterity.

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Joakim! probably is right...as i've said, i was being ironic...and in a bad mood...

well, i guess i'll get used to it...but on the otherhand, then maddy only sees him once, not twice...gaah! nothing makes any sence!

Well, for me it doesn't really matter. I was way to young when they first aired the show, so I first saw it when they released Season 1 on DVD and have loved it ever since, and for me, it's more normal to not have BOB in the carpet, even if it's wrong...

lilla_laura_palmer - I'm from Sweden

It would be nice if they included it in the Complete Mystery-box, as an alternative scen. Don't think they will, but I will cross my fingers :)

I'm glad it's gone, to be honest. I think the effect was really cheesy. It's much scarier with just blood.
Here it is, from Swedish TV3: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EjaeDAaBjKs
And here's the one without BOB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3zGNw17Cm8 (from 6:00)
