THAT'S RIGHT!

In Texas, you can now be arrested inside the bar for being drunk. No sobriety test or breathalizer needed!!!

Isn't this great guys?! Now we can finally get those low lives out of the bar! You know, the ones who go there to drink. What's wrong with those people. Obviously the only reason to go to the bar is for the food!!!

Now we can all live a happy life, knowing that if anyone ever tries to enter a bar, with the intention of consuming alcohol, they are in for a world of shit. HORAY!

Thank god they are taking care of this aweful problem.  That is so much worse than, oh, not being able to afford medical care or the problem of child molestation.  Thank you Texas for making it easier for all of us to sleep at night!

Seriously, what if those people they arrested weren't even driving?!?!?!  They want to cut down on drunk driving?!??!  Well, I for one, take a taxi or have a DD when I go out drinking, but now I won't be able to do that because being drunk in a bar is pblic intoxication.

Nice use of tax dollars there.  I can think of better ways to spend the money.  Besides, the cops can sit in the parking lot and stop anyone from getting behind the wheel if they have probable cause, so this is just ridiculous to me.

Sounds like a good plan, drunken people suck .. and people who suck should be arrested anyway.

"Especially since you make a habit of cutting income taxes primarily for the rich 1% of the population...."

Let's see ---- this is a state issue, not a federal issue, not sure what federal tax cuts have anything to do with this.

CCC, you've been on a tear lately on the boards !

Anyway on Fed taxes over here: The Top 50% pay 96.54% of All Income Taxes
The Top 1% Pay More Than a Third: 34.27%    83.88 % of all Fed Taxes are paid by the top 25% of

Income earners. just to keep perspective. ( IRS stats as of calender year 2003 )

Just some Hebrew stuff with two typical men, one looking to the left and the other to the right.
On one side 'JA', on the other the Omega sign.
The Hebrew stuff is about 'the Judge'.

Okay so I do have time to waste!

RE taxes and completely off-topic - can anyone (besides Raymond because I know he knows) tell me how much the 1% make at a minimum (in dollars). Now, don't go looking it up. Just give a wild guess. Millions? High thousands?

My dad lived in Texas in the 60s and he says:

I think they need to arrest the bar keepers, too. There is a "dram shop" law in most states that makes it illegal to serve drinks to someone who is drunk. Bars have dram shop insurance to protect them from law suits. They are still guilty of a crime. Texas is different, though. They can't sell mixed drinks or had liquor in a bar. Only beer and wine and "setups", which is like pop to mix with the liquor you brought in, yourself. (That's okay to do, in Texas.) A private club can sell mixed drinks, and they cracked down on the private clubs, at one time, too. If you walked through the door of a private club, they would give you an I.D. card and tell you were a member. They might charge you a dollar, or something. Bars have to close at midnight, during the week, and at 1:00 am on Saturday night, or something, in Texas, too. They have some unusual laws.

I think the law made more sense after reading it.  Just like Utah banned drinking everywhere but private clubs so I guess they would do the same thing: walk into a restaurant and arrest you for public intoxication if you drank at home before you went to the restuarant or something, because they are so strict (religion based I believe).

Does anyone here live in Texas?  They probably would have more to say.  Rebel does right?

I spent most of my life in TX in a town that looked forward to the weekend just so they could get drunk.

I also spent most of my life in Texas, and alot of my friends from back then still live there

My posting of this pretty much sums up what I have to say.

Arresting you in a restaurant, OK. Arrest you as you walk to your car. OK. Rash, but still not crazy.

Arrest you for being drunk at a place whose main selling point is drinks that intoxicate you, .... a little silly.

I agree with you 100%.

Not to change the subject, but I just bought some cold medicine and they completely documented me...everything but fingerprints.  My friend has 3 kids and a wife and if all of them have a cold, they exceed their monthly limit for cold medicine at the house.

Basically my point is that it's all money involved.  They aren't protecting anyone by busting everyone in a bar, just like they're not protecting anyone by limiting the sale of pseudoephedrine.

The truth is they get money to bail these guys out and the store saves $ by stopping the rare theivery of these products.

I bought some Zicam a few months ago and they took my ID. The Super Target here is starting to ask for ID's on Redbull too.

One more thing, When were the cops doing that in Texas?  I know that sometimes if they don't have their quota of arrests or tickets by the end of the month they will just randomly start doing things like that.

Some of that stuff you have to be 18 to buy.  They have signs that say "anyone who looks under 35 will be carded."  I think its silly too.  Half the time I get carded more to get cough medicine or cigarettes than I do to buy alcohol.  When I got carded for Zicam I complained to the manager, who was of no help.  They actually have to type your birthday in the register before you can purchase it.

Drinking age in Canada is 19.  That could have something to do with it.  I used to go to Canada every weekend when I was younger and only was ever carded at the border.

I went looking for Advil Cold and Sinus and it was behind the pharmacy counter so I asked for it and he asked for my license.  Shocking right?  That's not half of it.  He pulled out a big binder and wrote my name, address, license number the quantity bought, my age and I had to sign!

Okay, this is just getting out of control!  I mean come on!  What is the reason for them taking your info as well as the quantity you buy down?  That seems like some sort of invasion to me.  These aren't prescription medications.  I know that some OTC's can be used to make meth or whatever, but that is just going too far!

I'm going to write a letter!  (Inside joke)

some cough syrups and so forth have alcohol in them so more than likely if you are buying large quantities, that's probalby the reason.

As for the tabs, like you said Smeds, it's becuase some people use them to make other illegal drugs. Don't blame the people who card you, blame those that use the stuff to make illegal drugs. It's because of them that stores have to crack the whip.
