Denise is one of those very silly elements of TP that either you love or not, like Nadine returning to her teenage years or Ben's civil war, things that I believe were done for the sake of being quirky, original and weird without considering that's a very dangerous thing to do... Those aspects must go with TP, never be forced or they'd look ridiculous. Gordon is weird by himself, not just by the things he does. He's still Coop's supervisor and does his job. I like the Denise subplot, he's just like that. He arrives, does his DEA investigation, solves with Coop the situation at Dead Dog Farm and leaves... But of course meanwhile we and the characters have noticed something peculiar about him that I think I don't need to mention... While a man dressed as a woman is not something that at first sight I find funny I must admit that there's something sweet about the Denise story that always makes me smile: he and Andy dancing together, Coop's smile when he enters dressed as a man, Audrey's wonderful reaction in Coop's room, Ernie touching his leg, how Coop looks at him the first time he enters, how Hawk looks at him, etc. Never a dull moment IMO for such a brief appearance... I love how Duchovny plays his part, smiling to Ernie at the RR, at the Milford wedding... Yes, I repeat, Denise is a very silly character, something that probably if you had to explain it to someone that hasn't seen him it would sound really stupid... But his presence on-screen is warm, really likable, and of course he deserved a thread so we can discuss about these things...

Couldn't agree more, Gordon. Denise was always charming, and David Duchovny indeed did play him/her to a T! One of my fave scenes is when Denise goes into the diner, where Ernie is eating...sits down, and in that wonderful no-nonsense fashion, plops the photos down. Then, while applying more lipstick, "And I have every intention...on making sure you stay there." LOVE IT! The scenes with Coop are wonderful...you can really see the respect/friendship between them.

The interplay with Bryson and Coop is great! And I must say that Duchovny has great legs!

As usual, Gordon has done my work for me and stated everything I love about Denise, the character and David's performance. And Rocky, that might be my favorite scene with Denise. The leg shot coming in and Ernie in the booth and then you realize it is Denise and the whole way David plays that scene is solid gold. "I might be wearing a dress but I still put my panties on one leg at a time if you know what I mean."

I can imagine that Denise would have been a lot less humorous pre-X-Files, because Duchovny wasn't as well known. I think he/she is a great character. As is often the case, I agree pretty much with Gordon.

In a season full of bullshit characters, Denise/Dennis Bryson is a more than welcome addition. His stay was brief, and to the point, and gave us something to smile about between all those dreaded little sublots that permeated the last half of the second season. I'm glad we all love him.
That whole scene with Audrey,Coop and Bryson is so great. Love his reaction "Coop, how old is that girl?"
Life is FULL of mysteries, Donna.

"I may be wearing a dress but I still put my panties on one leg at a time if you know what I mean." I mean, in a town that's quirky and full of sexual deviants, you have to have a transvestite. I think Denise's presence made Twin Peaks pro-alternative lifestyle, despite Hawk's reaction. Ok, some people think men dressing is women's clothes is silly, and sometimes it is (Georgia Peach, anyone?) but Denise is really cool and dignified. Plus, he saves Cooper's ass, and makes two apparantly straight, but gullible, guys hot under the collar. (I love the look on Andy's face when they're dancing at the Milford wedding reception.)

I'm not very keen on this character, probably mostly because I'd rather forget about those particular episodes where he/she is. Then, isn't Dennise one of the few things that save them from total crapiness? Gordon used a good word: WARM. Yes, this character's presence adds warmth to the screen. And that's very good because at that time of the series everything seems so unimportant.. so shallow.. no emotions. So all in all while I like Dennise much more than Nadine's school career, I also prefer ben's civil war. Definitely!

Wow,you all characterized Denise/Dennis so well, that I can't add anything more.I can say that I like this character of Lynch.Maybe because David Duchovny is one of my favourite actors, since I watched X-files,and he played Denise very well. This role is very good and brings a lot of fun in the show ;) P.S.I like him more as Denise.He/she has nice legs ;-)

Everyone here answered for me, too. I loved the character of Denise, especially as a woman!

The scene in which he's wearing Dennis clothes, but he's still obviously Denise -- that was nicely done.

There's just something about the way he/she goes, "Suppertime..." all sweet and light, then beats the crap out of King. "It was just my legs." And the quote, "I still put my panties on one leg at a time if you know what I mean." Gives an affectionate little pat to Coop, and his quiet, "Not really." Love it. Or the little shake of his hair at the Milford wedding---even holding the bouquet, which he shakes girlishly at Coop when he arrives. :) Brilliant.

Thanks, Rocky (and all the rest of you), forgot about the wedding stuff before He danced with Andy. "How many of them were varsity wide receivers in college?" (or something like that) and Coop replies "Very few.". I loved it when he lays the smack down on the dirty Mountie. All kinds of good stuff in David's portrayal. Gives me plenty of material to work with ;)

Hi folks, i hope this is still alive by the time i write this. Let me put it simple and straightforward, i am a guy who started doing crossdressing a while ago, funny to say, at the same time i was watching the series for the first time. Then i found out "Duchovny plays a role in the series", man i was excited, but not as much as i was when i found out it was a guy in women's clothes, that blew my mind. What i'm trying to say is that this character helped me realize and accept something about myself, in short, something made *click* inside my head, for that, i am thankful for life. The point is, my question, i'd like to have the quote when he was at the wedding party explaining Cooper the reason he started to dress, the whole scene, i can't find it anywhere. Plz guys? Thx! -MaxXie~
