At Laura's funeral, Bobby interrupts the funeral and says "All you *good* people, you wanna know who killed Laura? YOU DID! We all did..." I found that answer to be the truest of all. Sure, BOB terminated her earthly being, but Bobby's words are really the truest. Does anyone else agree? Laura was loved by everyone, but everyone needed her, whether it be for romance, for English lessons, friendship, meals, etc. Everyone needed her, but she didn't rely on anyone. Her innocence was robbed at an early age, not only by BOB, but by everyone. Her own happiness was but a disguise.

Well, of course it was a very true thing that Bobby said. Still let's remember that it turned to be a real problem because BOB had been there before. I mean - lots of people, many of us included, suffer from not being understood, from not being able to rely on others, from people not willing to see our serious problems. But it's not so terribly bad unless your problems are going very far. If Laura had been an average teenager with average teenage problems, then (hope the teenagers will forgive me) it wouldn't be such a big deal that people don't understand (or don't want to see). It would be painful and shameful alright but she would make it, like most teenagers with problems do... However, Laura's problems with BOB were hardly average. It was an extraordinary and extreme situation. People who claimed to be her friends didn't want to see and yes, this killed her, too, like Bobby said. But it wouldn't have but for the damage BOB had caused.

What does Bobby mean when he says he's going to it upside down? Did he really plan he would say all this about how "we all killed her"? It seems to me that the funeral scene shows it as if he was acting spontaneously. Of course he had it in mind, it wasn't a sudden epiphany he had that everyone was responsible for Laura's death. But did he really intend to shout it out loud when he said he would turn it all upside down? What do you think?

I don't think that he planned that speech. I think it was spontaneous - but I do think it was brewing inside of him... he was distraught b/c he felt that maybe she could've been helped, or that people could see she was going downhill and nothing was done. I think when he said he was going to turn it upside down, he was just venting - he was very frustrated, and that was his way of getting that momentary frustration out when his father told him not to be afraid. I always felt that Bobby had some anger issues - especially early on in the series. It seemed to get a little better as the series went on. What do you think?

The major problem with Bobby is that he was always strong in words but when it came to actions he would turn out soft. It was taken to extreme in his conversations with Shelly - Bobby Briggs is going to take care of everything... I'm talking about a whole new life... Leo Johnsson is never going to hurt you again... Yeah, but the first knock on the door scared the shit out of our tough Bobby and to make things more funny, the knock turned out to be the malicious Andy Brennan ;) So I agree with you that probably Bobby didn't really plan his speech and again it would seem that he was brave when it came to words only... being cheeky to his father, showing his teen anger and telling how much he would turn it upside down - but in a safe place that his home was. Only that in this particular moment of funeral he actually managed to get beyond his limits and he did in fact say it out loud to everyone. His speech was words but more than words because he said something which was unexpected, which had to make everybody think, which was apparently out of order and which was really brave, not just a declaration of bravery. I think it's one of my favourite Bobby moments.

That's right. Bobby Briggs is good at making a lot of promises, but he's very bad at keeping them. He promised he would protect Shelly - fail. He promised Shelly and him would get rich with $5,000 a months - fail. He promised he would get rich with the Ben Horne business - fail. I don't know how Shelly can still trust him after all this - she's a little naive, right ? Anyway - I doubt the funeral speech was planned. I think Bobby didn't mean anything at all when he told his father he would turn the funeral upside down - he was just angry at him and wanted to piss him off. I think he reacted totally spontaneously, seing everyone crying at the funeral, thinking of Laura... It made him react. And Johnny Horne suddenly shouting "Amen" triggered his reaction.
I like what Bob wrote here : "...which was apparently out of order and which was really brave, not just a declaration of bravery" : yeah, exactly ! This is about the only time we see Bobby actually being brave, and I love it. And he was so right - beautiful scene.
"Albert, where does this attitude of general unpleasantness come from ?"

That was definitely Bobby's best moment on the show for me. What he said was true to an extent on the show and in real life. Besides that i didn't really care for his character much lol

True, BOB was the main factor in Laura's disintegration.
