What happened to Cooper? |

Am I the only one who actually thinks that if there were third season, Cooper would have managed to escape black lodge? And I mean that I believe that would have happened and not that I hope that would have happened. I'm not going to post my reasoning to this conclusion right away because I don't want to lead the possible conversation in any direction. Interested of hearing your opinions!

According to Bob Engels the "Cooper in the Lodge" plotline would've been resolved in the first three or five first episodes of the third season. I recall David Lynch has said something of that sort himself. But well, those were just some early thoughts about the plotline and I don't think they ever got to make the final decisions about that. Storywise the fact that Sarah came to Major Briggs in the final episode supports the thought that perhaps early in the third season someone would've done something about the Lodge situation. I can't think of them dragging that plotline forever.

I would think that resolving the Cooper in the lodge plotline would have been for Sheriff Truman to realize it's not really Dale - the rest of the season would be trying to get the real Dale out. Can't imagine how though. Isn't he supposed to be trapped there for 25 years ?

That 25 years is down to about 4 or five.

Yes that 25 years will be up soon - Can we hope for a 25th anniversary "reunion" episode where Dale gets out ?? I know - keep dreaming !!

I never really bought this interpretation of one Cooper being trapped in the Lodge and the other running around town.
I mean - of course, on some level, you could name it this way. But the fault of such an interpretation in my opinion is that a doppelganger is not a kind of creature that can exist in our earthly world independently, just like that. In a way it is just like with BOB - he is real and one can see him (gifted or damned) but nevertheless he does not exist in our world independently. You cannot have him as a neighbour at Pearl Lakes... or else: you can, but if someone else tries to find him, he never existed. No one remembers a man called Robertson in the small house at Pearl Lakes. In the same way I cannot imagine a doppelganger Cooper actually living in this world, I don't know - going to work, going for a coffee etc. What I can think of, is - Cooper. Not "the real Cooper" or "the doppelganger Cooper". They are split in the Lodge. That's where they are two separate entities. And it is real, real as hell! But when it takes place in our world, there is just Cooper. And if he had lost to his doppelganger in the Black Lodge, what does it mean? It means that the Cooper that came back to this world is a possessed Cooper, one who can sometimes see BOB in the mirror. I mean, is there a clearer, more shocking and ominous image in the whole series than Leland seeing BOB in the mirror before killing Maddy? And this very image is repeated on purpose (by the same director, by the way) at the end of the last episode - why? To show that the same thing happened again. I have always taken the "25 years" were such a long time because Cooper's sad story would last a long time, just as Leland's (a bit shorter, ok, Leland must have been possessed for perhaps 40 years or so). And now an assumed scene from the assumed Season 3 where a bunch of tough guys would make a raid on the Lodge and spring Cooper out of it... come on! That's Indiana Jones, not Twin Peaks!

Annie says "the good Dale is in the lodge and he can't leave - write it in your diary" to Laura in FWWM - If Mike can exist in "our" world from the Lodge, so can Coop's doppleganger.

I always thought that it was Coopers soul that was split into two in the lodge. The good side of his soul was trapped in the lodge and his evil soul was in his body outside of the lodge, possessed by bob. So the cooper we see possessed by bob is not his doppelganger but his real body, while the good of coopers soul is still being chased/tormented by his doppelganger in the lodge.

Bob1 once again nails it. My thoughts on the doppleganger situation precisely.

A mature spirit would of eventually...sooner or later gotten their head around that situation, what had happened to them `in there` and dealt with it.... prehaps a more immature soul or one that was less than 0 to begin with would never get/or of gotten their head around it,and indeed... still be in there now.....
