Now that is a big thing to me: on my daughter's 14th birthday we started talking about what I used to do when I was 14... well one of these things was the first airing of Twin Peaks on Polish TV and my falling for it. Obviously it wasn't the first time she has heard of Peaks, I talk about it, I listen to music, not to mention the "I killed Laura Palmer" t-shirt that made my kids wonder so many times about how could I have done such a thing ;) And I didn't want to push anything but herself she said she'd want to watch it and perhaps it's time already... and so we started! One episode a week, usually on Friday, just like it used to be those many years ago for me. At first she would go after each episode: 'oh come on, why can't we watch the next one right away', but I suppose she's gotten used to the pace by now. We are at Episode 9... had a short break after Season 1, which was due to school winter holidays and now we are back. I see she really enjoys it and you know, it kind of makes me feel proud and happy! We can discuss after the episode, I'm letting her do different guesses of course without revealing any secrets. What struck me most was what she said in the course of Season 1. 'The worst of all', she started, 'was...'. Well, what or who could be the worst? Villains such as Leo or Hank? Ben Horne perhaps? No, no. 'The worst, dad, was that man behind the bed. He was so... out of this world. I might be afraid to go into my bedroom if I could expect such a person to be there.' Just a glimpse of BOB, not any explanation about who this strange persona was, no real focus on that character and yet - the worst. She didn't comment much after Eps 8 and 9, though, and that's where we have had the most of BOB so far. Gotta ask perhaps ;)

Wow, you have a 14 year old daughter? I didn't even know you had a daughter BOB? You don't seem olf enough! I'm not surprised she's freaked out by BOB, I was when I was her age and also first watching Twin Peaks ass it aired. The firt time I saw the Pilot, I was scared by the ending, of Sara sitting up and I instantly saw BOB in the mirror (even before I saw/read any intervuews about that) and then you see him at the foot of the bed and I was like "whoa!!! what's he doing in the mirror? How did he get there so fast when he was just in her room? What is he?!" It makes me feel old, yet proud that teenagers are STILL interested and getting interested in Twin Peaks even now after all this time. It has a timeless quality to it, one you feel you can identify with. I know I did anyway, and also when I was 14 and watching Twin Peaks, I felt there were some ways I could idfentify with Laura and her diary, and could also relate to characters like Audrey,as we were going through (me and my friends) the same kind of adolescent crushes, developing feelings for sexy older men (like Cooper) we couldn't have, and GOD did it feel good to know we weren't the only ones out there! We used to stand around the school playground at breaktimes the next day and discuss everything that had happened.

How true is that. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to provide my daughter with company to stand around and discuss Obviously it brought to me - as it sure did to you, Maddy - a whole new level of the experience and that's something she can't have... pity. Yes, my gals are 14 and 12 and I'm old enough to have done that!

Well, we keep watching once a week, and before every episode she asks: hey dad, is there gonna be a lot of BOB today? We are after Episode 12 now. I don't know what I'm supposed to tell her in two weeks... But for now I am VERY happy because she obviously shares my appreciation for the Harold Smith character and plot. I think that in no way I have hyped Harold to her and she just came to enjoy this character herself. This morning we talked and abolutely agreed that he is one of our favourite things in Peaks. The atmosphere, the tension of those scenes with Donna in his house... great stuff!

She knows now... actually she found out last week. We had a small delay due to Easter time but a few days ago we watched Episode 14 and last night also 15. I have got to tell you: it was an unbelievable feeling when I was sitting beside my daughter and I knew that it was just in a matter of minutes that she would see BOB's face in Leland's mirror... and it then it was only seconds... and then Leland standing at the mirror, looking in it... the gramophone ticking ever so irritatingly... the last camera shot before we KNOW, an en face look on Leland smiling... and the silent horrible BOOM. I don't know, this moment seems to me like some kind of losing virginity. You have watched Twin Peaks for many weeks now, you knew a lot about it, had your share of thrills with it - but it is just THEN, when you first see BOB in Leland's mirror, that an essential line is crossed. If you have fallen for Twin Peaks before, nothing can ever be the same again. I am not sure about how much my daughter really likes Twin Peaks. It seems like she likes it very much - but can she get really deep into it, watching without any of her friends, where none of them have probably even heard of Twin Peaks? Time will tell. Anyway as for myself and the "passing T.P. to the next generation experience", sitting there beside her, I think I was as excited and breathtaken as years ago, when I saw it for the first time myself. Not the murder scene, perhaps. I've seen countless times and I can still appreciate it but it doesn't impress me as much as it did. However, everything leading to it. The way the tension was built, all from finding out about Ben from the Diary and from Audrey, and Ben's arresting, then of course the previous Palmer house scenes, the wind and the moon, the uncanny scene with Pete and Tojamura and on top of it, Log Lady at the police station... my heart was somewhere in my throat I suppose!
Wow, it's not over Episode 16 is coming very soon! Will I cry again? Bobby, did you cry...?

And that's it... I showed Twin Peaks to my first-born... tonight we completed it.
It was a great experience, I recommend it to everyone!

How great. I'm sure it's very special for her to share this experience with you! I saw the whole show with my husband some time ago. He had never really seen the whole thing. And he really liked it. Not as much as me, but anyway. I was also a teenager when TP aired in Norway and to be part of it back in the days was really something. I will try to pass my passion on to my son when he is old enough to watch it. Thanks for sharing your experience on the board

Awesome news! Congratulations!
Shame about next year's fest. I'm making a proper effort to save up to be there. It would have been nice to meet you!
