Never ran across jumping spiders Reb. But you mentioned once you had black widows and i think the dangerous brown recluse spider in your neighborhood. We did find a black widow with the signature red hourglass on its black body on Long island NY.

Those brown recluse are the scary ones as i understand it.

these spiders do bite, but not poison, as for black widows and brown recluces yes. had a family member that was bitten by a brown recluce, ended up up at the hospital, the doctors had to drain the venom juice out, and he ended up with a scar, he was sleeping on the couch and was bitten on fatty palm near the thumb area.

That sucks. A guy should be able to take a lil snooze on his own couch without any concern about a dangerous spider attack.

Also, thoughts and prayers to our Japanese cousins suffering from that tsunami and its aftermath.

Spiders scare me. Spiders that are big enough to see the hairs on them really scare me. Spiders are creepy. I have nightmares that I open a door and all these huge ass spiders fall out, all over me. I may puke.

Ditte Darlin! where have ya been? Good to see you around! yes, well I thought that one was a wadded up ankle sock. took a broom, and heh put that one in a coffee can, poked holes on the lid to let the poor thing breathe , cause it was too dark out to let it go, so waited til early sunrise. I did post a good while back that my twin sis gave me a clear box with a tarantula and a purty red ribbom around the box. I didn't want it, I turned it loose out in a field.

Gordon, if I ever see another I will, I found this one in my kitchen, how it got there, I am guessing from the laundry room, there's a door that leads to the garage area and outside. I was reading up on how they would react to flash lighting. some people that has pet tarantulas posted that they dont react at all.

so the next time if ever see one, I will try to be brave and take a pic, heh!!

there was one that jumped on my leg, freaked me out. I was around 12 yrs. old riding my bike and I went a bit too close. so it was probably more freaked out than me.

I get more of a panic seeing brown recluses and black widows. I just killed a brown recluse, those are very fast, didn't have any repellent, so I used hair spray, yes white rain extra hold hairspray heh! it worked! and darnet, didn't take a pic cause after spraying that thing I mashed it with a paper towel.

yepper,  a huge female brown recluse yesterday, I was folding my winter clothes, storing them in a bag. I felt somethin on my neck, and thought it was my hair brushin against my neck and a few seconds later, I saw it in the mirror, right on my upper chest, of course I freaked out and slapped that thing off of me! no camera to take a picture darnet, it was just one of those moments where ya just freak and wanna just get rid of it.

Holy shiite Reb! How do ya know it is a female? Does it have breasts, a vagina ?

and holy s again. I see you battled a tarantula a while back!!?

If it had been possible, would you have rather captured the brown recluse and let it go outside ? Or smashola?

hee hee oldraymond!

I read up about recluses and brown male recluse are a bit smaller in body length than the female brown recluse spider. so this one was big, so I assumed it was a female brown recluse. heck yes, got rid of it! flushed it down the toilet. good choices from you both though. thanks!

Praying Mantis- very cool looking insect. looks like a stick, with beady eyes. I heard that they spit, I also think they are like grasshoppers. my neighbor brought me one, to take of my garden, they eat on small insects. and yes they change colours, from green, to brown. I think they look very cool!
