Just noticed that in ep. # 25, Gordon Cole compares Shelly to Venus de Milo, and when cooper enters the lodge that statue is in the main hall way. Some sort of significants or just his subconcoius working? Also it isn't in the hallway each time he passes through on his way to the next room.
I love the black lodge. Its really groovey....

Yes,I've noticed the same:) I think that this coincidence between what Gordon told Shelly and the statue in the main hall way in the lodge can be explained just with the subconcious working of Lynch.I don't think there are any significants. I think the hall way is not just one,I think there were many alike hall ways, that's why we don't see the statue each time. The lodge is like a labyrinth, with a lot of rooms and hall ways, which are alike.I like the Black Lodge, too, very mysterious...confusing If I were in Coop's place I would go mad !really

Another similarity...when Coop and the gang have Gerard in the conference room, not giving him his medication so that Mike will come out, and he talks about where Bob is from..."A large house, built of wood, surrounded by trees...the house is filled with many rooms, each alike, but occupied by different souls...night after night." Of course, it's the Great Northern...but it can also be the lodge. Many rooms...check. Each alike...check. Different souls...check. Surrounded by trees...check. And those drapes aren't holding themselves up...wood beams, perhaps? ;)

yes,Rocky!!!Great coincidence between The Great Northern Hotel and the Black Lodge, but I think that what Gerard meant was exactly the black lodge, because this is BOB's house, but of course Cooper thought of the hotel. It's normal to think of it at first!But...later it's clear-he found out what is in fact this large house with many rooms, each alike ;)

Just a few more thoughts...
Does one have to be impure in some way to be able to enter the black lodge...
Cooper, Annie, Earle, Leland, all have a darkness in their past involving death / suicide / murder/ rape & murder (repectively)
perhaps this is why Briggs thought he was in the white lodge...he prides himself on his purity, morality, in all realms, physical, spiritual, linguistical....
One last thought/ question. If given the chance, would you enter the black lodge and attempt to pass through, encountering your shadow self...
Perhaps this should be a new thread....What would your own personal trip through the black lodge look like, feel like,..etc.....
I think I have a mild obsession.
ps. could the great northern be a physical version of the black lodge in the real reality...like the old waiter and the giant?

If I had the chance to enter the lodge...I would do it,and I 100% guarantee that the doorgate will open, because I am very fearfull person.Although I feel fear I would enter the lodge, and encounter my shadow-self...But actually I know how I would end...just like Cooper-trapped by BOB(I think BOB would be very pleased with me)I think that noone can pass successfully his way to perfection, noone is perfect, everyone feels fear, everyone feels love,it's impossible to be fearless! But I tell once again, that if I had the chance I would go in the lodge. To be brave is very difficult. And that's why I admire Cooper, because he was brave and was even ready to give his soul to save Annie, the woman he loves)Although Coop was feeling fear, too. But I think that everyone in this world is weak...maybe you can call yourself strong, only when you are not afraid to admit that you are weak!Cause we all are!

He did kill during war time, but...
he seems to carry himself with the notion that the killing was probably a part of his duty, something he is 100% committed too. He strikes me as the type who maybe even would view killing during war time as morally justified, in the name of what ever it was he was fighting for ideologically.
While others might view his wartime history of killing as immoral or wrong, he believes in his heart and mind that it is rightious and good. In my opinion that is probably the most important factor here, because it is every individual who must pass through the lodge. Briggs beleives in his heart has always done things for the greater good.
Ultimately he demonstrates his un-dying commitment is to those things which are for the "greater good". By the end of season 2 he agrees to devulge top secret info that he has swarn to protect once he realizes the air force is attempting to use the power and knowledge of the lodge for misguided intentions.....

Can anyone say for certain... when Briggsey is tripping in the Sheriff's Station, does he say "fear and love open the door" (as the Lavery episode guide states) or "fear and love open the doors" (as per the Gazette guide)? The more I try to recall, the more it sounds in my head like it could be either one...

I watched that episode, when the major says this and I hear "doors" ...Fear and love open the doors.Fear opens the door to the black lodge and love to the white one.
