Twin Peaks gives me a feeling I can't quite explain. It is the whole package including the characters, the music, the nature, the town. I am not sure how many times I have seen the show, but when I get that special feeling I have to see it again. Love it!

Anyone else who gets a certain feeling from watchin TP?

No, not any more really. Much the same with Lynch's other stuff. The man needs to release a new feature length film.

I think it's because it's just so different from anything else out there. I only ever watched one episode of Northern Exposure, but that seemed the only thing comparable.

Even among Lynch's other work, Twin Peaks is unique. I think a TV show can capture a mood more than films can because of the length they are afforded. Blue Velvet may have a mood associated with it, but it will always be tied to specific scenes (many of them are memorable but it's a film, it can't have that many!). Whereas with Twin Peaks, you can settle down and just enjoy its ambience without necessarily engaging intensely with the plot going on. Nothing else mixes the exotically weird and the everyday mundane like Twin Peaks.

Well, giospurs, I strongly suggest you watch ASAP Northern Exposure from start to finish, you're gonna love it... Peaks is Peaks and nothing compares to it, but yes, the feeling is similar.

I get that feeling. It's an odd feeling, but I sort of like it. It's affected me that way for 20 years.

It has always been a somewhat "nostalgic" (for want of a better word) show, with the throw backs to early daytime soap operas and the town's huge backstory, it is frozen in a time very much in the past, there are no startling things that bring us back to our present day as it was filmed without the appearance of mobile phones or obvious computer technology.  The music also suggests another period than the time it was made and originally released.  I always imagined that it was evoking a combined memory of Lynch and Frost's growing up the 1950/60s.

What Exy said. It seems to be the time 1990 cum 1960 and the place, a smaller insulated town, that weave the TP feeling.

To me there was a degree of both those qualities in Blue Velvet also.

YES i totally know that feeling. Deffinetly in winter..or even more like fall I start to get a little twin peaks tingle.  There is an atmospher that surrounds the show and you when you're watching it! It truly transports you to a diffrent place where you can just fall in for awhile!

Now that I´ve seen the show about five times (once every year) I must say I´m a part-time fan.

It takes me usually 3-4 weeks to watch (FWWM also) but after that I end up listening to the soundtracks all the time. I also search for old interviews on the internet, read theories here and there, dream about the show and drink a lot more black coffee than usual. I don´t know why but I always watch this show in July. I´m not a big fan of the summer and it´s great to watch TP completely in the dark with the shades down and without interruption from my family. For the rest of the year I´m pretty much TP-free. I don´t want to watch it too often so the huge impact remains.

I always watch the series with the Log Lady intros. They have this spooky atmosphere and Catherine Coulsons voice really draws me in. It gets you in the mood even before the episode!

And as soon as the intro starts I´m completely lost in this world. Their are no thoughts about other things, what I´ve to do today etc. It´s like meditating and besides Lynchs other work nothing captures me like this show. I´ve watched a lot of great series like The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad,  The Wire, etc. but they don´t hold a candle to TP. Of course they are more consistent written with 12 episodes per season and the writers have the luxury to plan a few seasons ahead but they never reach the highest point of TP which would be EP 14 and Ep 29 for me.

I watched the show the first time when I was 15 and it grows more to me with every year. The best sections of the series are more powerful and I don´t mind the weaker parts that much anymore because their isn´t anything like that on TV.

TP is its own microcosm with the series, FWWM, the soundtracks, the merchandise, Lynch and Frost the men behind it, the loyal fandom and its uniqueness in TV landscape. It´s the greatest cinematic experience there is.

I watched Twin Peaks in 1993 when it was aired for the first time on russian television. I was 9 years old and immediately became obsessed.

Later I bought "Secret Diary/My life, my tapes" and re-read it every year.

IMHO, the secret of Twin Peaks "feeling" is a strange mixture of thrill and safety. It's like you get the possibility to have a glimpse into the world of dark, forbidden things and get away with it.

I think I know what you're talking about CeCe, I think it's that certain "Lynchian" vibe that is attached to all of his projects...al though I must admit that Twin peaks is the only one to evoke a particular feeling in me - I think because of the music and the atmopshere and the characters nothing else in Televsion past or present can compare.

Exactly! It is a mixture of it all. And I love the fact that I still get that feeling from time to time. After so many years...

I listen to the music a lot. It is comfortable and inspiring..

^ Just hearing the first few notes of the opening theme "Falling" does it for me :) I have a similar thing with Northern Exposure, actually I seem to fondly remember the 90's while watching these two shows.
