I joined Myspace a few years ago because my girlfriend was on it. She helped me register and set up. After a few months I cancelled my membership. I guess I could have limited access, but I was getting friend requests from gorgeous blond women who lived in Nigeria !

A couple months ago I visited one of those sites, I think it was Mylife.com, that has people info on it. I looked up myself and bango there was my picture looking back at me! That particular pic I had exclusively used on Myspace. So, i have just a taint er tint of a concern that my info is not secure-at least with Myspace it was not.

I don't have an active role in a business that depends on advertising/exposure. If I did, I  would check out Facebook. It is ubiquitus. Last Saturday, upon a verbal in person request earlier in the week, I went to a High School kids getting college money carwash. As the car is being washed a Mom used her smartphone to take my pictures holding a sign boosting the event direct to Facebook where they had a site for the event.

On a solely social network kind of thing, I don't think i know enough people who use FB. Yep, mostly old people. Cellphone, texting, PC, doorbell users.

Gotta go, some dang kid's ball landed in my yard--I have to go yell at him.

I watched part of a show about FB on TV yesterday. Like most things, FB seems to have with both positive and negative aspects. Interesting how FB makes it a long process to close an account. Something bitchy about that. What 400 million users? Sounds like Superducky hit the "FB fatique" point :)

Hmmm. Maybe that is what has happened to the TP Off Topic section here. The days of 3 or 4 members posting  messages on a subject in a hour appear long gone.  

I hate FB but had to open an account when I changed my environment. I only use it for new acquaintances (you must know, in the "old world", we don't have this inflationary use of the word "friend"). It's essentially the KGB/CIA on a voluntary basis, and perfectly demonstrates how people really deserve to be screwed. Anyone remember George Orwell's 1984? Orwell would be amazed at how much much dumber than he had thought people actually are.

On another note, it demonstrates how empty people's lives really are today. They write bullshit like "just saw Michelle Obama at blabla" or "just took a crap" rather than actively engaging themselves for/in society and building up worthwhile friendships. It's something like those mass emails with silly jokes à la "if you don't send this to 500 people your child will be bummed", just on a more personal level.
