I've just realised after 20 years that I've never known what the moving shadow on the back curtain is when the LMFAP rubs his hands....is it Mike???

P.S does anyone remember this Twin Peaks Sesame Street skit from eons ago....

Yea it is also replayed exactly on the Simpsons 1996 "Who shot Mr. Burns? part 2" episode where Chief Wiggum has a weird dream with Lisa talking backwards and hopping on one leg with a flaming Ace of spades. I recall someone saying that the shadow was either a bird or it was Josie...I don't recall if it is actually really supposed to be anyone but it would make sense if it was supposed to be Josie Packard.

The official line was bird but the angle it flys at and the fold of the curtains make it hard to identify

Perhaps it's a tribute to The Shadow!!! "Who knows what evil lurks within the hearts of men?"

I know that it lists it as a bird in the script but I always think it looks more like Saturn. This fits along with the junjunction of Jupiter and Saturn and the Saturn lamp on the Red Room table.

I think you're right I think it is one of the miniature planets rotating on a moving pedestal of sorts, magnified by a lamp.

For me it's a torn-out page from the diary. Not that it makes much sense to me, but neither does anything else actually ;)

I think it's a torn out page from the diary too.  I also originally thought it was a bird but to me that doesn't make much sense, whereas Laura's diary and it's entries (even if it's not the secret diary yet) are being constantly discussed at this point in the show, the page floating past could be attempting to give Cooper clues.  Then again it could be a premonition of the bird which appears in the next episode when the guys go to the cabin and find more clues.

it could but well, that bird was just artistic, wasn't it? It was not a symbol of anything, nor did it actually help in any way. Just a poetic figure, which I like very much by the way
