I now have for sale copies of my mockumentary: Flappy: Behind The Music in The Air (complete with lovely cover & printed disc). This 13 minute short was made for the Fest & screened there several times, as well as several Seattle venues. It chronicles the outrageous exploits of the bird from the opening shot of the credits.Fan Troy Pacelli says:"I loved it. I laughed out loud several times & smiled all the way through." Begun in '93, director Matt Levinthal & editor Joe Shapiro have gone on to involvement in films (Police Beat & Zoo) shown at Cannes & Sundance. And cameraman/co-adaptor Ben Kasulke is now one of Seattle's most in demand cinematographers, acting as D.P. on Lyn Shelton's Humpday & Guy Maddin's Brand Upon The Brain. To obtain your own copy, send me a check for $7 & I'll wing one your way. Chris Mathews, 5741 26th Ave NE, Seattle, Wa. 98105. Thanks for your kind indulgence.

I always fear for Americans' safety whenever I read such comments. The thought of people going bankrupt over medical bills. Any appeal to decency and social justice on the matter seems to end with the comment that "we don't want 'socialism' in this country."
EDIT: I remember seeing this documentary about doctors providing free medical care in their off time in some US state. There were lots of tents set up and the unemployed 'poor' came from far away in their cars to get a long overdue check up. It was an unreal sight for a European. Oh, and sorry, I'm not buying your DVD. ;-(

But I have no job & no unemployment coming in yet. I have confidence in my art, but have never developed marketing skills to effectively sell it. Thought I'd give it one more try. This seemed the perfect forum for it. It's better than laying down & dying. Maybe a well-publicized suicide would jack up the demand! Just need to make sure my son knows that the Flappy discs are in my trunk!!!

Are folks avoiding buying Flappy because of a lack of exposure? It's been suggested that I put a "trailer" on Youtube, but I don't have the ability to do so. It's been screened at numerous TP Fests & been praised by countless reliable fans. Is this the age of free sampling?

Try putting out a special edition with life size bird blood sprayed rubber donuts and put it up for pre-order at a special discount.

Sorry, but I'm not selling the sizzle, but rather a juicy steak at a reasonable price. Thanks for your suggestion. And thanks to those who did respond.

I'd buy one (patron of the arts sounds like a good look for me - very Peggy Guggenheim) but you don't appear to be courting purchases outside the US with an all important Paypal link? All the indifference on the Internet makes my brain hurt. I was horrified by how many people grumbled about the Lime Green Set, which was produced (and financed) in a way that was bordering on guerilla (a good thing). People are cheap and unimaginative, which is why the modern world is such a vacuous corporate nightmare. I miss the days (in musicals mostly) when everybody had a dream and a can-do spirit and would invariably decide to "put on a show" when faced with adversity. Le sigh.
I ran from the noise and the silence, from the traffic on the streets

Unfortunately, I'm a somewhat old school artist (I wrote & narrated Flappy, but had nothing to do with it's actual construction) & concepts like Paypal & Youtube are not alien to me, but I have no idea of how to navigate these waters. My director is hard to contact & I just have these sweet DVDs that need a home. I'm so 20th century. Sniff...

Then you have no option but to get the gang together and put on a show. Picture if you will a frenetic montage of curtains, jazz hands, spinning dollars and smiling 1950s children clutching Flappy DVDs... It'll be very, now hop to it! I wouldn't have a clue how to use Paypal or buy from the US if it wasn't for Uncle Dave and his crazy (US based) schemes. I've also learned to use Babelfish (with 'ilarious results), pay larcenous import duties to evil capitalists and reason that perhaps the (now defunct) davidlynch.com store is (was) based in some parallel dimension where it really does cost $10,000 to send a DVD to the UK* * but I'm doubtful

Well, puttin' on shows is what I do! But ya kinda have to come to me for that. The play I'm rehearsing now is a kids show, with music. Our musical director is the arranger for the Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog live show that's sold out it's run here at Seattle's ACT venue. Some may know me as the author of the Twin Peaks: Live trilogy that's been read twice at the Fest & produced (by me) in Seattle (& well reviewed in WIP). If you've seen the Gold Box Fest doc, that's me as Partytime Leo. Had brunch today with an old acting friend today who bought a copy of Flappy & loved it. But that ain't sellin' copies. Guess I'll be floggin' this dead bird one copy at a time...

Take heart from the fact that Uncle Dave must feel the same way about INLAND EMPIRE. It breaks my heart to think he probably has a spare bedroom (slash house) filled with unsold INLAND EMPIRE DVDs. I once read that all the unsold copies of a (notoriously ghastly) Robbie Williams album were used in the construction of a motorway. I do remember Borders trying (without success) to sell copies for 99p. Have you thought about putting 'contains strong sexual content' or 'banned in 25 countries' stickers on the front? That'd pique your ungrateful public's interest.

That'd pique your ungrateful public's interest. | It has some silly sexual content (rumored photos of an orgy involving MacLachlan, Fenn, Flappy & Llorenzo the llama) & Lee getting lovepecks from the suave fowl. And since it incorporates lots of copyrighted music & footage, it's difficult for us to market. The Fest organizers were a bit worried that the semi-prurient nature might upset some of the actors, but they relented & showed it anyway. Trying to drum up controversy doesn't seem to be the cure-all for apathy...

If you'd like to sample my filmmaking style, go to Youtube & watch Mochasexuals. Though different from Flappy, my humor & basic personality (I wrote & star in it) comes through.
