Thinking of FWWM, did Laura die, knowing that BOB was Leland and it was Leland who had been hurting her all these years?   At the breakfast table, she looks at him and says "Stay AWAY from me" and looks at him as if she knows, and in the diary she writes "I know know exactly who and what BOB is"

But when she is in the cabin with Jacques, Leo and Ronette, and sees Lelands demented face in the window, she looks so shocked, like he was the last person she expected to see - if she was doing all the wild, bad stuff to bluff BOB (corrupting herself before he corrupts her) and she knew BOB was Lelend, well wouldn't she have known that BOB/Leland would be watching her?

And when he is killing her, he says something like "I always thought you knew it was me" in a sad voice, as if he realises she is shocked to find out who he is...

It was always my understanding that she DID know the night that she died that Leland was BOB. The night before the breakfast scene where she says "Stay away from me," to Leland, she saw Leland's face when BOB snuck into the window and molested her. She kept repeating to BOB, "Who are you?" and she saw Leland's face, started screaming, and then it faded into the breakfast scene. That scene started the last day of her life. The entire day seemed to be shot from her perspective as a blur - she had learned devastating information about her father, and was just biding her time until the end of the day when she could meet up with Leo, Jacques, and Ronnette to party and self-medicate. At that point, she was so distraught that she probably just needed release in the form of drugs, sex, partying, etc... she wasn't thinking about the possibility that BOB/Leland would be watching her.

When she saw Leland's face appear in Jacques window, I think her shocked expression was laced with a great deal of fear b/c she knew that something bad was about to happen. She had seen the angel disappear from her picture before leaving home that night, which foreshadowed that something bad was about to occur, but she probably wasn't sure what it would be. Although she always did feel that death was near to her, and wrote about it in her diary.

Here are a few questions of my own about this topic - obviously Leland while possessed by BOB thought she knew who he was. Or maybe when he said, "I always thought you knew it was me," he was referring to the fact that she knew but didn't want to admit it b/c it was such an awful revelation to face.

What I think Laura did not realize was that Leland and BOB were separate in a sense. Leland did not realize when BOB was gone what he had been doing. Laura may have thought that Leland knowingly molested her and tortured her throughout her adolescence and didn't understand that he was also a victim of BOB.

What she may have been so surprised about the night she died was that Leland would actually kill her, since he was her father.

Thanks Nikki that makes sense - I always thought there was a bit of denial in there, because in that terrifying "car" scene in FWWM, when Mike is yelling at them, she half-hears him saying "Its him, its your father" but chooses to scream to drown the words out, as if she knows but wants to pretend she doesn't.

Oh, yeah... I forgot about that scene. She truly did drown him out on purpose... and she saw Leland coming out of the house the day she got the picture from Mrs. Tremond, and went home to find BOB in her room. When she ran from the house and hid outside, it was Leland that came out the door. She just kept crying and frantically repeating, "No, it's not him. It's not him."

I agree that she was in denial - at least for a few days before her death.
