I was watching Psycho on Bluray last week and it suddenly occured to me that the "wrapped in plastic" element from Twin Peaks most probably was inspired by the famous "Shower Scene" in Psycho where the body is wrapped in the shower curtain.

There also was a serial killer in the area where the Twin Peaks pilot and movie were filmed, that was killing before, during and after the show, that learned from crime TV shows and movies (maybe even Pyscho) that wrapping his victims in painters' plastic contained hair and other trace evidence. Sometimes he left them in the plastic. I'm sure killers have been doing this since the dawn of textiles. How else are you going to keep from dragging and dripping blood streaks around?
Art imitates life first, I think, and then vice versa.

Perhaps it's a romantic notion but I would be more inclined to think that it's Lynch paying homage to Hitchcock as he did in Blue Velvet (his take on Rear Window) and Mulholland Drive (inspired by Vertigo methinks).
