Has anyone downloaded TWIN PEAKS in HD from iTunes, it's available through the CBS channel. I just wondered what quality the HD was, if it's better than the standard DVD version.

Surely, there must be at least one person in this community that has purchased the HD version of TWIN PEAKS from the US Apple Store. I am going to download one episode and compare it to the Gold Box edition - screen captures will be posted here asap!

Try http://www.dugpa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1552 You'll end up half-witted if you rely on the Twin Peaks Gazette to furnish you with information. There's nothing like enterprise, I always say. P.S. Kudos for your Poirot avatar. I have an unhealthy obsession with Agatha Christie

I beg to differ. I find that the TP & FWWM threads on Dugpa.com contain more questions than attempts at answers. The Gazette board also contains greater discussions on the esoteric, occult and philosophical influences of TP, which IMO form the greater essence of this story.

I'm glad you find the discussions about esoteric, occult and philosophical influences on Twin Peaks interesting. The post you quoted was referring to actual, literal information in the conventional sense, as opposed to people stroking their chins, gazing at their navels and generally talking bollocks. If I'd said 'You'll end up half-witted if you rely on the Twin Peaks Gazette to furnish you with opinions' you would have had a point. Exy wanted to know if anyone had downloaded Twin Peaks in HD and nobody replied. It's an open and shut case. No debate necessary. Q. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb? A. A fish

No worries. You're (fairly) new to the board. It's a mistake anybody could have made (if they hadn't read a thread properly). Welcome to the board and don't be a stranger/let the door hit you on the way out (delete as applicable)

I know Jared (Jlyon1515) downloaded these and was super impressed with the quality - much better than standard DVD. Myself, I'm holding off until I can have actual hard copies in my hands. I'd prefer not to put more dimes into Apple's pockets than I have to. But that's neither here nor there. Everyone I've talked to who's downloaded these has said they're worth the price. :)

lately ive been watching with a newbie and we played my standard discs on his playstation(dont know which kind), on a LCD that is slightly over four feet long and three feet high. he told me that any version of any dvd plays better, blue-ray especially so, as thats what it made for. so i think a combination of television and player can make the standard look quite good.

I downloaded the pilot and episode one so I could get a comparison of the film and video look of the show. It is wthout doubt a superior transfer and it's shown in the correct aspect ratio, which I actually prefer to having the picture stretched to fill my entire widescreen TV. I shall be posting a more indepth review on my Blog soon.

Blog is updated. Julia McKenzie is almost as lame as Geraldine McKewan as Marple, by the way, or maybe I shouldn't blame the actors the fault lies with the produces, the thought of shoe-horning Miss Marple into The Pale Horse and other non-Marple mysteries is a travesty.

Yes...I've got quite a few of these 720p HD episodes now...all of Season 1 and a handful of Season 2. Now as to the quality...having recently viewed the entire series in the new 'Gold Box' edition with all the recent retouches etc (standard def viewed upscaled 1080p) I can compare...& I can safely tell you that these HD episodes knock the 'standard definition' completely out of the water. This is how Twin Peaks should be viewed...in High Definition, the depth of the image, texture & detail are awesome to behold and it has totally transformed...how I view this series. What a stunning work of art this is and in HD, this is really brought to the fore.
They are easily transferred to standard DVD discs (or usb sticks) and can then be watched through a Blu-ray player/home cinema that accepts MKV files...big screen + HD = heaven.
Absolutely loved the final episode in HD with the 'redroom' scene...that one is a must. These will do until the Blu-ray disc come out...they should've released the 'Gold Box' as BR imo...can't understand why they would back engineer the content to fit standard!!! If ever a TV series demanded HD...then Twin Peaks is the one and only imo.

I agree I can only watch it in HD now - I play them through my Apple TV which is connected via an HDMI cable and they look stunning even on a 60 inch TV. But imagine how great they'd look on Blu-ray! CBS are missing a trick not putting out the Gold Box in Blu(e) in my opinion!

Do you still like it? I am battling with stats at the moment, apparently 80% of my traffic only visits once and stays for less than 10 seconds (how depressing is that?!) but I am trying to focus positively on the 20% who do actually read the articles and hope it's still of interest to them.

Has there been any news of TP on Blu-Ray? I've toyed with the idea of purchasing Twin Peaks from iTunes, but can watch it on Netflix anytime - so i haven't made the jump, plus season 1 is still only available in SD. . . Great site by the way - It's the passion that matters, don't be discouraged about anything (read a bit of discouragement earlier in regard to some posts). Eskimo Bob

Hi Bob... I haven't heard anything in respect of Twin Peaks on Blu-ray...not as of yet. I did finally manage to get all of the episodes from series 1 & 2 (and pilot) in the HD 720p format and I am very pleased that i have done so...these are the ones that are sold on Itunes US. I know that all the series has been encoded to High Definition, this was done when they worked on the Gold Box edition....so they obviously back engineered HD to go onto the SD format. I really think they missed a trick going for SD with the Gold Box, although I understand many still have SD players. Perhaps they could've provided both HD & SD in one package....then everyone is happy! Basically...all they need to do is port the already mastered HD content to Blu discs and re-package....and that is it, all the work has been done. So hopefully just a matter of time...25 year annivesary might be a good choice, but I'd prefer sooner obviously!
Gotta say that the episode Lonely Souls (eps14) is a real additional highlight....the World Spins scene etc is awesome to behold.

Having since done a blanket search, I have come up with a little factoid regarding the Blu-Ray disc...nothing concrete though, you understand.
Over at Dugpa (is that a swear word around here? ) on the 'Mark Frost' page...there is a mention of Frost recently 'twittering' a response 'in relation to the release of the infamous FWWM deleted scenes' where he uses the phrase 'maybe with the Blu-Ray of the Gold Box' this is followed by 'its still an "if" not definite'. (again in relation to the FWWM scenes probably). This is obviously nothing truly 'solid' but its good to hear the term 'Blu-Ray of the Gold Box' used by someone who is connected so closely to...and at the heart of the show. As we already know the HD mastering of the series has already been done...so lets hope it deosn't take too long to run off the BR discs. There has been a little bit of activity (the diary stuff etc) from Frost as of late in respect of the TP series...so there should be some interesting times ahead.

LMFAO :D I can't afford a nice new i-pod with built in video which is a damn shame as these DO sound worth the money. :( Recently bought the S2 Boxset though after having the Gold Box for some time and think the newer boxset is of slightly better quality.
