I was talking to some  friends that had watched FWWM before watching the series.

 Strangely enough they all loved the movie and wanted to watch it even after learning who the killer was.

 One recurring question that kept coming up was whether the LMFAP was supposed to be the Devil.

 A part of me wanted to explain that he was the arm of Mike the one-armed man...but the more I thought about it...their concept might actually warrant some merritt. In fact considering LMFAP as being Satan gives the whole movie and series an even more frightening edge to it.

Perhaps everyone in the lodge is a version of Mike.

 Didn't Mike say "I too have been touched by the devilish one?" Wouldn't that imply that the tatoo is a part of the devilish one? That the tatoo is the example of pure evil that infected Mike (or at least that's what he believes")?

 In any regards, Mike does believe that he has has had intimate correspondance with god and satan.

 This to me leads to the theory that The Giant is God, and LMFAP is Satan.

 hmmm, i dont exactly understand this theory of yours.......well, i guess that Mike would get touched by satan (the devilish one) only if he touched himself (appropriately and/or inappropriately) since his own arm is satan..........If Mike touched himself inappropriately with his own arm this definitively would imply that he had intimate correspondence with satan, would it not? maybe not....

But kidding aside, what is your justification for asserting that the Giant is God?

I also don't see the connection with Mike saying he has been touched by the devilish one and the tatoo being part of the devilish one? Could you clarify this point?

 Why is the left arm culturally/historically associated with evil? I know that in some parts of the world it is common not to use toilet paper, but use your hand and water to wash your behind.......And i think it is custom to shake hands with the right arm, because you wash your bottom with the left (or maybe it was the other way around? I dont remember....)....

but i was thinking that maybe this custom could have something to do with the viewpoint that the left arm is evil......

I think LMFAP was definately evil(guardian of black lodge?) he represented the evil part of MIKE'fire walk with me' and appeared to Cooper taking great pleasure when Josie died.This however could be his apparent happiness at aquiring garmonbozia from Josie which manifests through pain and suffering-Josies tortured face on the drawer

I don't believe that the MFAP is the devil. To me he is the arm of Mike but also Mike. Mike states that there was a tattoo on his left shoulder that linked him to BOB "Fire Walk With Me". When Mike turned good he states he cut the entire arm off. While this makes some viewers think that the arm was evil I think it was merely the tattoo that was. There is a neat little scene in Polanski's "The Tenant" where the main character goes on about how parts of his body are himself, not seperate entities.

Logically if the arm was evil because he had killed with it, Mike would also need to remove his brain because it had had bad thoughts and his heart because it had had evil desires. Not to mention other pieces of anatomy that I hesitate to get into... When Mike was converted after having seen God's face all of him was purified. It was only the tattoo that remained as a reminder so Mike went to drastic measures to be rid of the darn thing.

The MFAP states that where Laura and he come from the birds sing a pretty song and there is always music in the air. That sounds more like the White Lodge to me than the Black Lodge.
