Has anyone listened to the entire Twin peaks soundtrack (Seasons 1 &@ OST & FWWM OST)? What are your thoughts and opinions on the soundtrack(s) and what songs did you like the most or disliked, I want to see everyone's different reactions to the songs. Please list as many as you'd like including any Julee Cruise songs that may have appeared in the Movie or the Series.

The songs I find myself listening to the most are the iconic Twin peaks theme "Falling (instrumental)", and "Laura Palmer's theme". I like the second because as it starts out it sounds dreary, sad, depressing and almost suicidal but gradually reaches this point in the song where it sounds like there is a twinkle of hope but it is dashed before true hope can actually be obtained (and repeat x2).

I enjoy listening to "Rocking back inside my heart" by Julee Cruise, it was that song that led me to find other great songs by Miss Cruise such as "Nightingale". I like "the voice of love" from the Fire Walk With Me Soundtrack (is this the sad tune that plays nearing the conclusion of Season 2 - Catherine tells Josie to see Thomas, Catherin informs Harry that Josie is gone, etc?) It sounds sad yet with a hint of optimism similar to Laura's theme. EDIT: Maybe the song I am thinking of is "Audrey's Prayer" or maybe it was "Pacxkard's Vibration", it sounds somewhat close to "the Voice of Love", now I wish I hadn't deleted that episode already :P

I was also wondering about character themes:

I know that released on the soundtrack(s) there are specific themes for the characters but besides what is listed on them what could be considered one of the character's themes? Here's my thoughts:

James Hurley - "Night Bells" and "The Bookhouse Boys"
Donna Hayward - "Hayward Boogie" and "Just you"
James & Donna - "Just you"
Laura Palmer - "Laura Palmer's theme" (obviously)
Audrey Horne - "Audrey", "Audrey's Dance" and "Audrey's Prayer"
Nadine Hurley - "Track 7/Louise" and "High School Swing"
Ed Hurley - "The Bookhouse boys"
Norma Jennings -
Shelly Johnson - "Shelly"
Bobby Briggs - "A Real Indication","Audrey's Dance"
Ben Horne - "Audrey's Dance"
Harold Smith - "Harold's theme"
Blackie O'Reilly/One-eyed Jack's - "Blue Frank"
Dale Cooper - "Cop Beat"
Harry Truman - "Josie and Truman"
Josie Packard - "Packard's Vibration" & "Josie & Truman"
Harry & Josie - "Josie & Truman"
Catherine Martell - "Packard's Vibration"
The Man From Another Place - "Dance of the Dream Man"
The Tremonds (Mrs. Tremond & Pierre) - "The Black dog runs at night"
Jacques Renault - "The Pink Room"
Leo Johnson - "The Pink Room"

I find the original series 1 soundtrack quite boring now. Maybe it's because I've listened to it more, but the main themes, whilst effectively setting the mood of Twin Peaks, can be a little bit monotonous. There's much more little details to pick up on and return to on the series 2 soundtrack. And the FWWM soundtrack is home to the best songs on any of the soundtracks. Jimmy Scott on Sycamore Trees is breath-taking, and the three-part conclusion of Moving Through Time, the Montage and then The Voice of Love is sublime.

I'm really liking Shelly's theme now (I think it played when the lady with the flashlights appeared in Ben & Jerry's flashback), that and Audrey's prayer :D

You're thinking of Hook Rug Dance. I love that song too.

Oh then it's a different one then, it's track#2 (Shelly) 2:17, I guess I mistook it for hookrug dance.

I still listen often. Still love it, still takes me back to the TP mood even after all these years. My faves are the same now as then.

Bookhouse Boys and especially Night Life in twin Peaks are the mysterious heart of TP.

Laura's theme breaks my heart every time.

I feel FWWM is stronger overall, mainly for it's wonderful mood swings.

MovingThrough Time is sublime.

A Real Indication is rap noir at its finest.

Little Jimmy Scott sends shivers down my spine.

Both the TP themes are perfect for there own respective worlds.

The first Julee Cruise album and Industrial Symphony are pretty much part of the TP music canon to me. Infact everything on both soundtracks and these two are flawless :)

I think I found the song I was trying to identify before (during Josie's last few scenes in Twin Peaks "Episode 25 i believe") It's called the Love Theme from Twin Peaks if I am not mistaken.

  I think giospurs hit it.

Of all the soundtracks, FWWM is the most powerful.  The opening theme captures the darkness of the movie.  Sycamore Trees is INCREDIBLE. Moving Through Time is another.

I don't know about anyone else, but I listen to The Pink Room more than any other song.  To me, it relates the insanity that was LP's final days perfectly...  And Questions In A World Of Blue, Voice Of Love- unbelievably powerful.

The perfect soundtrack, IMO.  Each song reminds me of the portion of the movie where it is played- if that makes any sense.

OMG I forgot The Pink Room, the shame is all mine. It rocks in a way quite unlike anything else I have heard. My friends band used to cover it, I will see if I can get a copy online at some point.

FWWM really captures the essence of Twin Peaks for me. It's a masterpiece of film music. And it would have been even better had it included Deer Meadow Shuffle and Teresa's autopsy 8)

Anyway, the song that I'm still drawn to the most is "The Red Room" from the season 2 soundtrack. I love the weird bass line and backwards guitar effects here. It captures completely the unpredictable, dreamlike state of the black lodge for me.

Maybe this has something to do with me being a bassist myself, but I also really like the Tremonds' theme "The Black Dog Runs at Night".

Deer Meadow Shuffle is the holy grail of Twin Peaks music, unfortunately :)

I'm not sure Teresa's Autopsy is an actual piece of music, it's just a name I use to label the weird backwards noises that are heard when Sam is extracting the letter from under Teresa's nail.

The first time I heard the FWWM soundtrack was when I bought it and put it on my ipod. I went for a walk round this beautiful park that's about 100 metres from my house and has a massive lake. Like everyone I thought Jimmy Scott was amazing, but god, when Moving Through Time came on it was incredible. The sky washed out and a mix between yellow, pink and incredibly pale blue. It was a slightly balmy evening, warm but just starting to cool a little as the was evening set in and a warm breeze was blowing through the trees next to me. You know when you have those moments where everything feels just kind of right with the world? It was one of those.

Oh I remember that weird funky sounding music during that scene, I remember cringing because of the whole fingernail bit :( It reminded me a lot of Silent Hill with the distorted sounding murmurs and staticky-white noise kinda sound.

Is there and audio clip or a scene from the series that contains the Deer Meadow Shuffle music so I can hear it?

EDIT: I just heard it on youtube, apparently it plays during the scene where Desmond is busting the two hookers/druggies in the field with the stalled school bus and the screaming kids.

I have a playlist specifically dedicated to the three TP soundtracks (plus Rockin' Back Inside My Heart and The World Spins, which absolutely should have been on one of the soundtracks--instead we got "Barbershop"...ugh) and it still gets a lot of play. I agree that, considering the three as separate albums, the FWWM soundtrack is by far the best.

My favorite tracks are (in no real order): Harold's Theme, The Black Dog Runs At Night, Audrey's Prayer, Best Friends, Shelly, Audrey, The Voice Of Love, Sycamore Trees,The Pink Room, Blue Frank, Into The Night, Laura Palmer's Theme, Questions In A World Of Blue (I love the sweet little saxophone part--I think it's a saxophone, I'm not a musician), The Nightingale (same deal with the sax here), Montage From TP, Half Heart, A Real Indication, Rockin' Back Inside My Heart, The World Spins, Theme From TP, Theme From FWWM and Dark Mood Woods/The Red Room.

Possibly my favorite of all, however, is Moving Through Time. I didn't realize it was so popular, it's great to see so much love for it. :)

I just heard Sycamore Trees...sung by I assume to be an elderly woman in a tuxedo (fellow lodge spirit?) I can only describe this tune as a mix between a funeral dirge and a lounge song.

not an elderly woman Marg, 'Little' Jimmy Scott...his feminine appearance and vocal style are due to him having a condition (its name escapes me) meaning that he never underwent puberty. true story!!

I know what you mean I think) is it like Emmanuel Lewis (Webster) and Gary Coleman (Different Strokes), although I don't know if it is the same Gary has a kidney problem (caused by focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) and Emmanuel well I couldn't find anything for him so maybe he is just short.

Alas, there is no recorded version, just live :(  Fwiw it rocks in my memories...

Very happy to see the love for Moving Through Time. 20ish years later and still fresh as a daisy, allbeit a sad and melancholy one.
