Why would you be curious about Annie? Her soul is guarded Bronkslanayswaynes, she's forever trapped but forever safe.

I know the line has somehow become iconic for Peakers coming to the fore in the internet age, but me and my friends watching Cooper asking this question about Annie back in 1991, there was only one response... "Who cares?"

Isn't that the answer that was implied from MacLachlan's crazed delivery? (And a whole lot more of course...)

That made me laugh like a (wicked) witch. Audrey Horne has a very good point. Who are these new fans anyway and what do they want? I've tried to be patient and wait it out but 10,000 posts a week dressing the same point ("LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!") in different outfits can be rather trying. Maybe they'd accept Buffy The Vampire Slayer as an out of court settlement?

Oh well, since you put it like that. If you'd asked 'How's Audrey' I'd have said 'She's a chick with drive who don't take no jive'. If you'd asked 'How's Laura?' I'd have replied 'She's still dead, yet not dead at the same time, thanks for asking'. But 'How's Annie?' breaks open this whole hornets nest of stuff... indifference towards the character, disillusionment with the second season, the transference of repressed anger from one's parents to the Lynch/Frost partnership... (Daddy David was absent during the second season because he was with his new Wild At Heart family). You've been around the block enough times to know all this... so yeah, like, totally...

right, calm down please
but i do agree that many topics that have been begun recently are rather bland, shallow and dull, usually with two word titles that are ambiguous, but not intriguing in the slightest, such as 'audrey's bum' ,,,,,, thread: 'just wached ep 14 for the 1st time, soo creepy, did yoo see audrey's bumm?' replied to with "obligatory sarcastic, yet devoid of wit response", then "another comical reference to an obscure thing to dilute the humour even more" then "original poster bemoaning that they are sorry if it's been talked about before, but there is no search option (uh oh...there IZZ)" and so on it goes.

How dare you disrespect me, you little tramp! I mean, the nerve...
And there was i, poised to yield unto you actual love after reading your previous post and then i scrolled down and was confronted with THE HATE. The other David Lynch board would give its right arm to have me, and yet I devote myself selflessly to this board, never asking for anything in return, despite the incessant wails of "GAY BAD!!" and "FIRE WALK WITH ME ISN'T AS GOOD AS THE SERIES!!!". And so it's come to this... right then... well... I did like the post before it though, you know, the one that didn't be hatin' on The Face (slinks off in search of further mischief).

sorry sorry, i should learn that 1: My sense of humour is pretty bad, pretty unfunny to anyone except for me 2: Tongue in cheek, playful, piss taking intonations etc CANNOT be conveyed on a message board 3: Combination of 1 and 2 with 'witty, playful remark' make me sound like a complete ass, instead of like a witty ass 4: Swearing in posts only serves to further the misconstruing of my 'witty' posts. In short, sorry, I was trying to be witty with my 'b*tch' post, but it didnt come off, didn't mean any offence, though it could be quite blatantly offensive. Sorry Ms Leaves......

I say! I've used excuses 1 and 2 myself and lists are one of my most effective methods of attack. I knew you were trying to be witty the whole time... I'm just killing time until Long-Suffering Partner arrives home from 'the city'. I caught up on Miss Amanda's love life in Other Topics, mulled over the whole world of hurt that is Dune in 'Finally watched Dune' (well done that man) and then decided to bedevil slash discombobulate the dear old Twin Peaks board in my cloak of homosexuality for ten minutes. My skin's probably too thick to take offence, but I like to fake it from time to time to give something back... people rather expect it, you know...

Fan message boards like are like a real world classroom.
New fans are like students. They have the benefit of new perspective. Sometimes they're idiots, the extent of whose writing abilities is text and Twitter.
Old fans have the wisdom of experience and years of context and research, or pretend they do, and believe we have all the answers and so have stopped exploring.
Let's work together, people, and be open to eachother's guidance.

I didn't mean it literally. I just think there's some pompous elitism coming to light in this thread. Something that in my opinion basically kills art and culture.

Also- there might me new people to this board and not necessarily new to TP. I mean, it is 20 years old :) After lurking for a long while I decided to join - knowing that years of ideas had already been eloquently stated. Anyway, I enjoy reading this board and that is what its all about so, whatevs. Fan boards will go through this type of deal.

My delightful partner can always tell when I'm lying because I inadvertently tack 'really' onto the end of sentences for no reason (e.g. I'm not that bothered really, I haven't spent that much really)

nah, elitism preserves it; babbling philistinism kills art and culture. thats not a personal attack, thats a general statement about art

Do you really think that 'elitism preserves' art? Reasons?
It obviously depends on what you mean by art. But if that's true, then it doesn't seem you could include Twin Peaks as 'art'.

wow, this got heated. I just meant before the internet allowed us to share thoughts, I never would have thought certain elements of Twin Peaks had such a strong following- whether they be old or new viewers. I always took it for granted that Annie was hated; Windom Earle's storyline was beyond silly; Justice Wheeler is insufferable; Super Nadine was super dumb etc. The biggest surprise to me upon reading Wrapped in Plastic is how much Laura Palmer is idolized. Nothing against it, but I never expected it. Most of the few fans I knew when we talked about Peaks in the 90s thought Laura only worked as a picture in a frame and a bizarre vision in Cooper's dreamworld.

The original wave of fans did not have Fire Walk With Me at the ready, either. It was more of a postscript. Hell, there are still purists on this board who reject FWWM outright because it departs so much from the series.
When you look at FWWM as the foundation, the beginning, the soul behind the chain of events that is the series, Laura is the planet that all other characters are satellites orbiting.
DL wrote the Bravo Log Lady intros after FWWM, but the Pilot intro says it best:
Laura's story "encompasses the all... The one leading to the many [stories in Twin Peaks] is Laura Palmer. Laura is the one."
When we look back we see that once her mystery is solved, the other stories unravel into drivel and filler.
