Laura’s Diary probably has many threads but I had to post and ask if anyone felt a real connection with Kelly’s writing. Every time I read it, I find another part of me that really idintifies with how the words play out and feel amazed at how she can put such stark reality in such an "otherworldly" presence and idea that is Twin Peaks. Anyone else have any thoughts regarding this?

Kelly Lynch, not to be mistaken with Diary author Jennifer Lynch, director, and daughter of David, was the lead in Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy. Though there are two Peaks actors in that movie, she had nothing to do with the Peaks mythology ;)
Yes, it is a great book. The only thing that bothers me is that neither Harold nor Cooper mention that BOB's voice talks through her in this Diary.

I was under the impression that the diary you could buy was not the diary in TWSD possession. Didn't she have two dairies one that Cooper had and one that Harold had. Maybe I am getting things confused in my head as it has been a while since I watched the entire show.

The cops come into possession of both diaries. The first the find in her bedroom in the pilot. The second they find in Harold's apartment (remember, Donna has Maddy break in.)
Plus, the incriminating pages that were found torn up near the murder site were some of the missing pages from the 2nd diary found.

Ha! oops yes re: Kelly & Jennifer thanks for clearing that! Also, by identify with I mean there are dualities to everyone and her writing seems just so real as if she were recalling her own feelings and emotions. I suppose every writer does this but this is only one of a handfull of books that I re-read.

I always thought that was because Harold destroyed most of the Diary, probably exactly those pages. He was so afraid to talk about that and zealously keeping the secret. The Diary is a great book indeed. So perfectly written and constructed. It draws Laura in such a realistic way.It made me love her and understand her,it made me feel so sad for her.Laura is one of the bestest heroines of David Lynch. And Jen did an awesome job with creating the diary.Like father, like daughter.:)
Beware of BOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

I asked Jen on Facebook whether Laura's Diary was at all influenced by Jim Carroll's Basketball Diaries, but never got a response... (Should do a version of People Who Died featuring Peaks characters!!!)

I bought the diary when I was about 8 or 9 in a used book store, and read the entire thing that night. Of course i didn't fully understand the majority of it, but it became and is still my favorite book ever. Because of that book I became introduced to the tv series, and now I've met so many people who feel like I do about it. I'm 16 now, and Laura has been my hero since I read that book. She is the perfect combination of innocence and knowing exactly what she's doing. While I am my own person, Laura is still the girl I've always wanted to be.... Many kudos to Mr. Lynch and his talented daughter, both are true artists ;]
