Hi all - Why do you think The Man From Another Place is shivering/rubbing his hands (and his back turned) when Cooper has his first 'waiting room' dream? Reference to he being the severed arm of MIKE? Thanks in advance for your info & discussions!

If he has really, really dry hands, he could be creating static electricity, as we know electricity is important to Lodge beings; the static on the TV in the credits of FWWM, the voice saying "Electricity" in Jeffries' flashback, and the phone wires that echo the MFAP's Indian whooping.
Shivering releases energy in the muscles, so he could be building up an electrical charge.
The hand rubbing also seems to be related to music because he follows with a clap (perhaps representing a thunderclap, part of an electrical storm) and a "Let's rock."
Rubbing his hands accompanied the flying birds and wineglass-rim-rubbing music in Cooper's dream.
BOB would make Leland dance, which also releases energy in the muscles-- dangerous for someone in an already weakened state. Dancing could be a way that BOB could assert his will in his vessel.
Dunno. Fun chain of thought to follow, though!

Maybe LMAP was just excited at what was coming. People do rub their hands together when they are expecting something "good".

Maybe the rubbing/shivering is a masturbation reference. After all, that's what you do with your "arm"!!! LMFAP: Little Mike feeling a penis!!!

Yeah, either that or playfully imitating machine gun fire at an out-of-shot lodge inhabitant.

i wonder about the shivering too. i thought him rubbing his hands together changed the passage of time (ie in coop's dream with the coffee). i do also like the generating energy idea since energy and electricity are important for everyone good and bad

He is very cold, because the red room has an entrance in a cold forest in Washington. He is shivering to try and keep warm.

If he's trying to keep warm, why not just grab Laura's "cousin"?! Or make a freaky cup o' coffee!!!?

Was the MFAP and bob and the giant all the same person? Or just different evil entities within the black lodge?

So I guess no one told him more than two shakes means you're playing with yourself. Though that just adds another meaning to the fap of his acronym.

I always took the LMFAP's hand rubbing as his method for obtaining information from future past.He does this before telling Cooper about the gum coming back in style even though the scene takes place 25 years in the futureHe also does this just before Coopers test begins within the black lodge obtaining info regarding Coopers past to confuse and envoke fear within him.
