I came up with a small theory about these transmissions from the woods, that were never explained.I know we can say that the lodge spirits travel in the real world inside owls, and spy on people in the woods. The Log Lady knows this, which is why she was telling everyone to go inside her house, where the owls can't see/hear them. And we know a giant owl took Briggs away when he was about to fill Cooper in on the lodges, maybe because he would end up being Bob's new vessel or they just didn't want a man well-versed in the lodges to spread the word.

When Briggs returns back to our world, he's wearing a pilot's uniform. This leads me to believe that he used a plane inside the lodge during the test that enabled him to send out transmissions, calling Cooper for help and also letting him know that the "owls are not what they seem". Time in the lodges is different, so it would make sense that Briggs would receive the transmissions a while before he would go on to sending them, and he loses his memories inside the lodge, which would explain why he didn't let Cooper know about this.

Has anyone had similar thoughts? Please discuss.

Nice theory, DF.

Owls appear often in reports of alien encounters and abductions, 2nd in frequency only to "grays."

It's also strongly implied that BOB inhabited an owl after he left Leland.

Briggs was abducted by the owl/alien/Lodge being he saw, but was he just another pawn to lure Cooper to the gateway?

How much does "the owls are not what they seem" message help Cooper, anyway?

As an afterthought, the Tremonds and the Giant are both interesting characters in that they both offer Laura and Cooper clues, both in visions, both related to their respective rings. But are they good or evil?

That's the best explanation I've come across to address the mysterious transmissions. Personally, I don't feel that Briggs was in the lodge, but who knows.

I just finished episode 2.14, and Briggs himself says he believes he was in the lodge.

The spirits travel inside owls (or as owls) and with electricity. Maybe they travel inside owls in places where there is no electricity nearby. Thunder also helps.

The whole thought of Briggs using a plane and sending some transmissions in the White Lodge seems a bit odd. Quite ridiculous in fact. But then again it feels logical. The Lodges have things that are related to the thoughts of the person who's in the Lodge so I guess there could be a plane too. And that Briggs could suddenly change clothes because that's how his mind works.

WOW! That owl is indeed scary,Ditte!

I always thought of the owls in the world of Twin Peaks as servants of the Black Lodge, servants scouting for fear and love, seeking it and reporting it back to the spirits of the Lodge...to BOB?

David Lynch is the man who made me believe owls are really not what they seem :D  Very mystique dark birds.

Hey,it's so sweet to see some of my good old friends here,Ditte,Rami,12rainbow...I'm very glad to see you again! :)

Beware of BOB

BOBBOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

For a while I have been playing with an notion that in fact possessed Cooper is a tool to lure Briggs back to black lodge.

You know: he survived the first time, he had a feeling that something big and unpleasant will happen after his return and the fact that Briggs disappearance was more significant than the cold war.

And he is a great man, so why wouldn't BOB want to possess him?

hmmm never thought about that DF...plus does Briggs not shout "COOPER! COOPER!" before being whisked away...remember the messages, COOPER, COOPER, COOPER... As i have posted before, the old skool pilot gear has always baffled me.

Owls, wind, electricity are all conduits for the 'Lodge', or rather the forces seen in other DL works; a sort of medium for chaotic creativity...(Such as the RedRoom), the notion that lynch seems to have that out within nature, within energy there is a creative force that is very instinctive, very chaotic

Good posts, everyone! I hadn't thought of the "COOPER! COOPER! COOPER!" line by Briggs when he's being taken. I guess we could deduce that Briggs made it through the lodge test because he's a military man. He was trained to cope with past tragic experiences, so he shouldn't be afraid of anything mustered up in what I call the "memory room" (which I will be including in my rewatch notes, as I've finished the series yesterday).

It all comes down to one big mystery: Who is the hooded figure? Is this just a lodge spirits whose job is to take people who are spreading the word about the lodges?
